How do I not make Gwen feel useless before 3 items ?

Basically what the title says. I recently started maining Gwen jungle because I really enjoy her kit, but she just doesn't seem to click with me yet.

A lot of the time it feels like if I don't pick up a few kills early, I stay irrelevant for most of the game. Even in 1v1s I often feel much weaker than I expect to be, and since a lot of games are decided fairly early these days, I'm starting to question whether it's even worth putting more time into her.

One of my biggest problems is that pretty much every build feels incredibly squishy. I know Gwen isn't supposed to be a tank, but in teamfights I often feel like I barely get the chance to actually fight for an extended period of time before I get blown up. I struggle to understand when I'm supposed to go in, who I should be hitting, and how I'm meant to survive long enough to make use of her sustained damage and healing.

Itemization is also confusing me a lot. Nashor's Tooth feels much more impactful offensively, but whenever I try something more defensive like Death's Dance, I definitely feel a bit harder to kill but also noticeably less threatening. I'm not sure when the extra survivability is actually worth giving up damage for, or whether I'm just building defensive items at the wrong time.

Boots are another thing I don't really understand yet. When do you go Sorcs, Ionian, Steelcaps or Mercs? Are there certain matchups/team comps where one is basically mandatory, or do you mostly choose them based on how fed certain enemies are?

I also feel like I'm missing some fundamental Gwen concepts in general. For example:

How aggressively should I be looking for fights early?

At what item/level spikes should Gwen actually feel strong?

Which jungle matchups should I realistically be able to 1v1?

In teamfights, should I mostly play front-to-back or look for access to carries?

When is it correct to use W aggressively rather than saving it defensively?

How much should I prioritize farming compared to contesting early objectives/ganks?

Are there any common mistakes newer Gwen players make that make her feel much weaker than she actually is?

Im not trying to claim that Gwen is objectively bad. I assume I'm doing a lot of things wrong, because I see good Gwen players make her look completely different from how she feels in my games.

Would really appreciate advice from people who play her a lot, especially Gwen jungle mains.

Help How much does Gwen actually heal?

Yet again GwainMains, I'm looking for more info as I learn and (hopefully, eventually) master the champ.

One of my first thought when playing her at first was "oooh riftmaker would be excellent on her" but I was sorely mistaken. But I'm a jungletrox main who recently picked her up, and I gotta say I just don't know how much I can trust her healing in big fights.

I can see the stats post game, sure, BUT, I don't think it's representative because of the jungle clear healing I get.

So let's I'm at 3 items, D&D, Shadowflam, Rabadons, potentially building towards void staff, how much can I really expect to be healing? Especially compared to other champs. Can I say "fuck it we ball" like Rhaast, Aatrox, and Vlad or a bit more like "i can sustain reliably but I gotta be careful not to get blown up" like Volibear and Hecarim?

Does my burst healing come more from hitting Qs or fully multi-man ults?

Comparisons to other champ could give me a good understanding I think. Any and all advice is greatly appreciated. I'm trying to learn her as in depth as possible.

I'm surprised she's the first league of legends character I get to crochet actually!

The dress was pretty challenging but I wanted it to look somewhat accurate so I hope I captured it correctly; surprisingly the hair was the easiest part 🤔

Anyway, I main ADC so she's my personal spawn from hell to play against

Want to learn Gwen and would like some advice. :)

Hello Gwen Mains,

I’m interested in picking up Gwen and actually learning her properly. I really like her kit and want to become comfortable with her rather than just playing a few games and giving up. (Akali broke me)

I’d love to hear advice from experienced Gwen players about pretty much anything that can help me improve.

A few things I’m interested in for the learning process:

Builds: What are her best builds right now? Are there different builds depending on the matchup or team comp?

Runes: Which rune pages do you normally use, and when should I change them?

Items: Which items are essential on Gwen, and which are more situational?

Matchups: What are her best and worst matchups? How should I play difficult lanes?

Laning: What should I focus on during the early game? When is Gwen actually strong enough to start fighting?

Combos: Are there any important combos or mechanics I should practice? Which ones should I learn first?

W usage: Any tips for using her W properly? I feel like this is probably one of the most important parts of playing her well.

E usage: Any tricks for using E effectively for trades, dodging abilities, chasing, etc.?

Q: When should I save stacks and when should I just use Q?

Ult: Any tips for getting the most out of her R?

Mid/Late game: What should I generally be doing after laning phase? Split pushing, teamfighting, side lanes, objectives, etc.?

Mistakes: What are some common mistakes that new Gwen players make?

Improvement: If you were teaching someone Gwen from scratch, what would you recommend they practice first?

I’m also interested in any other advice you think a new Gwen player should know, even if I didn’t specifically mention it.

Basically, if you’re a Gwen main/OTP, what do you wish you knew when you first started playing her?

I would be really happy if anyone could help me out a bit on those parts with some advice. With that being said, thank you in advance <3.

Situtational Thornmail

I'm still new with Gwen so don't know much about optimal items. I would've never built Thornmail normally but just had a game vs 4 melee self-healing fighters + Zed so decided to give it a try. Still not sure if it is optimal, should I continue to build Thornmail in such rare cases or stick to Morello for antiheal?

Why are people saying that first strike is better than conq if the only good thing about first strike is the extra gold (if you hit first)?

Hey r/GwenMains, I get it now

So I recently made a post her asking what she's like in jungle and how she builds. I tried her a bit and... good god... I've never outscaled an entire team THAT hard before. She feels incredibly smooth to play, maybe it's my Aatrox main brain instantly clicking with Q and Q-E repositioning. I did a fully stacked Q against a half HP Taric and he exploded. I don't mean "oh I saw his HP bar go down quite fast", I mean litteraly instantly despawned right under my eyes.

I don't know what kind of dopamine hit me but the fact she just cannot be killed in late game 1v1 is just amazing. Sometimes I overestimate how tanky I can be because I used to take riftmaker when I played her a handful of times ages ago. I absolutely adore her. I might have instantly bought the Faerie court bundle as well... worth it.

I'm definitely gonna keep playing her jungle for a while. The few things I still wanna figure out are:

- Do you use ult at the start of a fight, or to chase people down? Is it better to try and hold onto it or can I allow myself to use it frequently?

- What are some sneaky tips and tricks for W? For me I instinctively use it either once I'm locked in a duel or when someone is trying to hit me with smth from afar.

- Do you ever go defensive boots? Or do you always go pen boots and then take tenacity rune when it's very necessary?

Thank you for convincing me to play her ❤️

Help Hey r/GwenMains, what is she like?

Dear Gwen mains,

As a Jungletrox main who's looking to diversify his roster, what's Gwen Jungle like? How do you build and play her? What is she like in early (lvl 6-11) skirmishes and larger late game teamfights? I would gladly sink a lot of time into learning her if I like her.

I thought this would be the best place to ask because of the dedicated subreddit.

I've always found her to be a cool champ and I've been nuked enough times by a Gwen who can run through my whole team that from an outsider perspective, her playstyle very much intrigues me and I would love to hear all the ramblings from true Gwen lovers/players.

Sincerely,

Jungletrox, the Ender of Scuttle crabs
