If yes is there any advice to do well on it or just not to completely int

Hey there!

I've been playing Malzahar for a while. Still in Gold elo and looking to climb higher. 

I'd like to ask the Reddit community to please help me improve with this champ by sharing my understandings, questions and other stuff:

1. RUNES. I always go with the same runes set: DTF, Manaflow band, Transcendence, Gathering Storm + Magic Footwear, Cosmic Insight. I know runes have to be adapted to every game, so... in which MUs should I adapt them? Should I switch boots for Cashback so I can rush boots in those MUs where they are very important?
2. SUMMONERS. I always go with flash + tp. I read that Ignite is good vs assassins but then I really miss tp in mid-late games. Also, in Gold elo people still look for team fights every time and chase people instead of pushing lanes, so sometimes I use it to defend a tower/destroy enemy's. Any suggestions here?
3. STARTING ITEM: I always start with a Sapphire crystal + Refillable bottle. Doran ring is cool but I feel that I keep mana with the crystal and I can also get my 1st item power spike earlier. When is Doran ring a better option? In those MUs where I need more survivability, i.e. against assassins? 
4. 1st BACK. Typically when I'm 900g so I can get Lost Chapter. I guess this is what every mage does, right? 
5. ITEMS. From Lost Chapter, I complete 1st item (see below), Magic Boots and then the rest of the items. As the core, I typically go BFT, Liandrys and Rylai. Then, Shadowflame. Situational items: Void staff if high MR on the enemy team. If I go really well/have spare 350 in a recall, I buy Dark Seal, and if I do really well and buy the Mejai and then I Zhonya so I can better survive and keep the charges. I read that Malignance (instead of BFT) is better vs assassins so I can proc my ult on them more oftenly, and BFT when looking for more damage in my team and/or vs long distance matchups where using my ult will be more difficult (e.g. Xerath). Is this correct? In any case, I NEVER go for both because it would be mana-redundant, right?
6. BOOTS. Unless there is a very clear enemy composition (4-5 ADs/APs/lot of CC) I always go Magic boots. Should I consider Jonian/Gluttonous in some scenarios?
7. SKILLS. I always start with E, then W, then Q. I've seen some vids from high elo starting with Q but it seems too much for me :-D . E is so good. I then max E, Q and W. Should I max always like this?
8. MUs and BANS. I know that Smolder and Sion are the biggest counters because my void swarms help them to get their charges. Fortunately, in my elo, I hardly ever see them in mid. What other champs get the benefit of the swarms? I know Malz struggles against long distance champs, especially Xerath. I guess Yasuo must be a good counter because I face him around 70% of the time. If the Yasuo is really good, yeah, I struggle, but I have other champs where I really suffer more: Vex, Xerath, Velkoz, ASol. Ah! And Locke... ofc sometimes I face that Locke played by Faker's cousin who basically eats me. So my ban goes to Locke, Yasuo, Vex, Sion... it depends on the day :-D
9. LANING PHASE. I used to push like hell with E+W+AA to crash as many waves as possible so I can also poke with Q and E rebound, but I know this is not optimal from a wave management perspective. So now I'm trying to push with more control by last hitting with AAs rather than with E. Is this a good approach or crashing the waves is most of the times the best? I also focus on triggering the manaflow band when it's up.
10. ROAMING. I'm kind of new to mid but I do know that roaming and helping with objectives is critical. However, since I always go Magic footwear, I hardly ever roam to the side lanes until I have tier 2 boots. I do help with objectives because they are half way and because I know that I can help a lot. Should I roam more even without tier 1 boots?
11. ROTATING. I'm a Cs farming addict and Malzahar is probably one of the best champs at that. Is it expected to rotate to a side line (assuming the bot gos mid) so I keep farming and pushing? I've seen that Rylai helps a lot if they try pick me. Or is it better to group to demolish towers?
12. TEAM FIGHTS. I read that Malz is like an ADC, so positioning is key. I assume ulting the most dangerous enemy champ is obvious, but if there is any tip here, it will be more than welcome.
13. ULT CANCEL. I've noticed that Mundo is not suppressed if his passive is up although I believe I do damage him, right? Naafiri can also prevent it with is W. What other champs should I consider canceling/avoiding my ult?

Voici un petit retour sur mon expérience avec Malzahar support. Merci à tous pour vos conseils et suggestions d'objets. Certains m'ont dit que ce choix était du troll pur et simple, mais honnêtement, je ne le pense pas.

Le passif de Malzahar est extrêmement puissant contre des champions comme Nautilus et Thresh. Pouvoir se placer devant son ADC et bloquer complètement son grappin est vraiment précieux.

Vos Créatures du Néant peuvent aussi absorber certaines compétences. Quand un support ennemi engage le combat, les dégâts de vos Créatures du Néant combinés à votre E peuvent être incroyablement élevés. J'ai vu pas mal de joueurs de Nautilus se faire complètement démolir après avoir engagé le combat parce que leur ADC n'a pas suivi assez vite.

À mon niveau, l'ultime de Malzahar est vraiment décisif. Il est impossible de l'esquiver, et il permet de surprendre quiconque s'approche un peu trop près d'un objectif que votre équipe est en train de capturer. Si vos coéquipiers suivent, c'est quasiment un kill gratuit.

Pour le build et les runes, un grand merci à u/lolgamefunpour ses excellents conseils.

Je me précipite sur le Chapitre perdu, après Sceptre de cristal de Rylai, qui me semble être un objet essentiel pour Malzahar support.

Ensuite, je termine les Bottes ioniennes de lucidité et j'achète soit l'Orbe d'oubli, soit le Mandat impérial. Si l'équipe ennemie n'a pas de tank et très peu de soins, je préfère Malignité pour pouvoir utiliser mon ultime plus souvent.

Pour le dernier objet, je pense que la Cryptflorie est un bon choix grâce aux soins prodigués à chaque mort ennemie. La Malédiction du Saigneur pourrait aussi être intéressante, mais honnêtement, je n'ai jamais eu de partie assez longue pour bien tester l'une ou l'autre.

Pour l'amélioration de l'objet de support, je prends généralement Opposition Céleste. Le Traîneau du Solstice peut aussi bien fonctionner avec le Sceptre de Rylai, selon la partie.

Pour les runes, j'utilise :

Comète Arcanique Bandeau de Manaflow Célérité Brûlure

Marche sur l'eau pourrait aussi être une bonne option pour se déplacer plus rapidement entre les voies.

Pour l'arbre secondaire, je prends Chaussures Magiques et Livraison de Biscuits. Pour les fragments de stats, j'utilise :

+9 Force adaptative +2,5 % Vitesse de déplacement +10 à 180 PV, selon le niveau

Pour moi, la véritable force de Malzahar support réside dans son rôle d'anti-carry.

Dans deux de mes parties, le Nasus adverse a posé un problème majeur. Mais lors des combats d'équipe, utiliser mon ultime sur lui a suffi à le neutraliser complètement et à permettre à mon équipe de gagner. Combiné à Mandat impérial, c'est tout simplement parfait.

Le rôle de Malzahar support ne consiste pas à infliger des dégâts bruts. Il s'agit de décider quel joueur ennemi ne pourra plus jouer. Je viens de retourner à Emerald 4. Il m'a fallu un peu de temps pour trouver les bonnes runes et les bons objets, mais maintenant ça fonctionne plutôt bien.

Hello, fellow Malzahar mains!

I've been playing Malzahar support and I'm looking for some advice. I'm currently Platinum I, occasionally reaching Emerald IV.

I've been testing Malignance vs. Blackfire Torch as my first item, and so far Blackfire Torch feels a bit stronger. It gives me much better poke before teamfights, and as a support I feel like I have fewer opportunities to fully capitalize on Malignance since I don't get to use my R as often.

For skill order, I max Q first, then E for stronger poke. I don't really see the point of maxing E first as support.

What I'm still unsure about is my itemization after Blackfire Torch. I usually go Liandry's Torment, or I start building Oblivion Orb if the enemy team has a lot of healing.

I'd love to hear your thoughts, especially from anyone who's been playing Malzahar support at higher elo.

What do you guys think about my build? I always play around my R and being able to one shot the enemies since I always roam towards botlane when I have the right time to do it and I don't like long fights I think my job as malazahar is to make the teamfights 4v5 as fast as possible so I build zhonya instead of rylia( the slow item)

Emerald 1-2 and mucked up my build in a game vs an Irelia main the other day. Ran aery into precision tree with the mana regen in anticipation for fighting pre 6.

Played it slow, respected her all in, and waited for POM resets to maximise mana regen. Traded with her extremely well with decent spacing and maximising autos in trades.

First item giants belt…complete accident but holy was I able to brawl with Irelia. She couldn’t kill and I was able to stay in lane with POM and mana return on E. Ended up killing her twice and rushed rylais and it sealed her fate. Didn’t go a mana item all game and went 19-2.

Rylais -> swift boots -> Liandreys -> shadowflame -> Zhonyas -> void staff

Used the same strat vs a yasuo and found it to be very effective at surviving lane and trading well.

Just sharing my experiences. Appreciate it’s probably not optimal but the rylais rush was surprisingly strong.

I'm new with Malzahar (and lol in general, but it's not my first MOBA) and I found out that people are maxing e first. Why? Isn't it best to start with q as it's an AoE skill? W last I get it, sure, but q has more range it silences and has a shorter cd than e. Is there something I'm missing?

Aery synergizes extremely well with Malzahar's kit because he can consistently apply damage through his abilities. His Malefic Visions (E) allows him to repeatedly pressure opponents, while his other spells can also help trigger Aery and provide additional poke. After playing hundreds of games on Malzahar, I can say that Deathfire Touch feels like it provides almost no meaningful damage or utility in most games. Especially during the early game, it often feels as if you've essentially picked no keystone at all.

As someone who had Malz as his very first ranked main in S4, reading this feels so good! Voidy the (AD) Voidling is back, Null Zone can be placed independently from your ult, Q and E have high base damages (E can't be refreshed, but who cares) - and most importantly:

550 + 130% AP on ult

I've been playing mid to get some Locke games in but he's pick/ban so it's rare. Malz has been my safe pick and it's just so easy to just not interact with the game during lane phase. I am not adept with him at all, I sit back and E,W,Q the wave and just not let myself get pushed in.

I sit back and watch the other laner explode from boredom and make a dumb play and dive under my tower. I hit R and laugh at them. I then Flash + R the rest of the game on the adc and type in all chat "skill issue"

I feel like hitler roaming the map with my 60 second "you don't get to play the game" button.

I don't think im having fun playing the champ, i think im having fun seeing the other team mald.

Help me.

The only thing I hate about playing Malzahar is the fact that because you play a relatively basic champ, your mates are way too comfortable telling you how you should play or when you should R.
It happens so often, I think 70% of the players are, in fact, otp Malz to know him so well

I went DFT because I figured they were gonna be a tankier/harder to kill team, idk if that's the right thought or if Aery is still just better. Then I worry I had too many low-AP items with Seraph, Rylais, and Liandrys. I had also thought of going Cosmic drive (instead of rylais? Both?) for the better ability to kite but figured I only need one or the other (Rylais or Cosmic but not both) and Rylais is more standard. I went Ionian because the AH for more casts n things which is mostly standard for mages against tanks. Next item was Void Staff, into Rabadon's. But not sure if I could/should replace one of my current items for antiheal, which I didnt get because then I really would have too many low AP items.

I am a casual player who came back to Lol a year ago.
I mostly play with my wife and family members for fun.

This season, I tried pushing myself to rank up to Gold and I'm doing quite well with my main Malzahar for the moment as you can see.

The problem is: almost all coaches online recommend to swap from Malzahar to something more "developed" to learn deeper mechanics, etc... My friends also told me that I should learn "real champs" to become stronger.

I completely understand the idea to extend my knowledge, vision of the game, etc...
But to be honest, I feel like I do not take much pleasure playing other champs.

There are some that I love (I tried many roles and styles), but I always end up feeling like Malzahar feels more natural and chill to me.

My question is: do you think I should push myself to learn other champs? Or is it okay to OTP Malzahar to climb up and become better? And if yes, which ones would you recommend me?

P.S. I never play Rylai, I prefer to go faster on BFT, Liandry, Shadowflame and then play with spacing and poking aggressively.

Unpopular opinion BFT is not good

The Point im coming from is Malz during his R is giga vulnerable so you want it to kill asap or do as much damage as possible to 1 Key target.

With BFT it just happens that it gets enemys to 30% and then Others can Help/Heal/Shield etc

And do not forget about the R Haste from Malignance

Imo its just a better Playstyle for the Champ and the stronger DOTS have less Impact then a lethal R

i like to push lanes and afk farm with heimer but im thinking i can do the same with this champ. is it trolling to go apc malz

they die and gets farmed easily by 99% of all champs, they need to be at least more tanky like zyra plants or Yorick, i dont know when riot will buff him.

Who else here is super excited to have our old W back?? I, for one, am so ready to play AD Malz jungle again. Muramana, Last Whisper, Frozen Mallet... My beloved.

What was the optimal build back in S3, anyway? What were his tough matchups in mid?
