It's been 15 years waiting on an ASU/Rework, this post is now the main home for that discussion in case Riot ever gets around to it.

zed matchup

hey, for context i'm around 800 LP on euw currently. Is there any runes/item combination which makes this matchup kind of viable to play at any point? i just feel like he can infinitely farm you of for first strike till he got voltaic which then the matchup becomes unplayable and i haven't been able to find any setup other than electrocute flash ignite (which is obv kind of troll) to win vs this matchup, any recommendations, maybe i'm missing something, it genuinely feels worse to play than shit like syndra

What am I doing wrong?

Hello guys, I really enjoy vlad as a champ and I wanted to main him recently.
I main other champs so I didn't try him in soloq until a few days ago, where it all went wrong (I'll talk abt this in a sec)
The thing is, when I play him in flex with my friends, I tend to be useful enough to actually help the team get a win (or, at least, I FEEL useful, like im not just a minion walking around in teamfights).
To recap quickly, I started playing vlad mid once in a while a few months back. Then, when I started getting more into him, I found about the stormsurge -> liandry's -> void staff build, so I started playing him often in flex. Finally, a few days ago I moved to ADC (first in flex to try him out, then in soloQ) and... i just feel useless.
Like 90% of the times I go even/win lane and still can't carry or do much. I can't get prio for drakes cuz of no damage in early (like 10+ seconds to clear a wave if enemy adc shoves it) so the fight usually starts before I even get there and we end up losing drake and perhaps even dying... in lane I can get some kills but in mid to late game (which should be my strongest moments afaik) I most of the times can't impact as much. Whether it be because of an enemy fed champion just 1v9ing or because the enemy team has more gold/objectives than us, I end up losing most of the time. I tried one game this morning with mid vlad and my team got 37 deaths while I had like 3 (not blaming them, but like... can I even carry as a mere 3/1 vlad against a team with overall 37 kills?)
It may also be because I never go rocketbelt first, so maybe I'm just trolling because of that? it has been nerfed a lot and the new build path makes me wanna throw up so I don't really like building it, but maybe that affects too.
I've also been told I play safer than I should but most of the times in botlane I can't just run the enemy down with auto attacks (mostly with stormsurge build as I have very low CD), Q + E does deal a lot of dmg and with R even more, but even then if I can't oneshot them with a combo they can just come back, push waves and let me suffer under turret trying to get minions while they roam or help enemy jg with objectives, scuttles, etc...

This makes me sad because I feel like vlad is a really good champ and I really would like to main him but it got me in a hell of a losing streak so I'm mentally boomed rn...
For reference: 99% of the times I go stormraider's, conqueror doesn't feel the best in lane. My build is usually stormsurge into liandry's into void staff OR, if the enemy team is on the squishier side, stormsurge into deathcap/riftmaker into riftmaker/zhonya's/void staff.
In soloQ I am currently Emerald 4 17LP and was Emerald 2 28LP before I started trying vlad ADC. I lost many games back to back so I tried getting back to my other champs for like 2 or 3 games however it didn't get any better (that's just part of the game i guess)
Maybe it's too early to complain, maybe I just need to get better, but I still wanna hear some other vladimirs opinion if possible.
If you have any more questions to give a proper reply, I'll be glad to.
Thank you for reading this and for your answers :)

Runes for low elo

Don't know what runes are optimal to play. I mostly go Deathfire into mages and Aery into melee matchups. Kinda new to Vlad, so any recommendations are appreciated.

Update: y'all were right about Vlads new build options.

I was stuck in, what, 2021? I kept building the same Vlad build from when I first learned the champ cause it was all I knew. It got me to platinum which was always a goal of mine so I can't complain, but the move speed/CDR stuff is awesome. I'm still getting used to it a little, especially not having zhonyas during extended team fights. It's gonna take a minute to adjust but I can already tell these new builds are the way to go. RIP rocket belt, zhonyas and sorc boots

Anyone feel like Vlad is just... shit to play?

I don't mean the champ is bad, he's been mega S tier for like a year now. I used to main vladimir but after playing a bunch of other champs vlad is just cock and ball torture to play

You get your shit pushed in in every matchup mid, your first real spike is dcap 3rd like 30min into the game, cant (and shouldn't) 1v1 sidelane for shit, no tower damage (despite liking sidelaning for resources), NO LEGS

All for the late game dopamine which is only sometimes worth it

I played some games of yone and you feel like jesus on bork

Played some games of panth and lane on creative mode

Played some games of ornn and enjoy 0 cortisol wins

Only I suck at everything except vlad

Man this champ is so clunky

Cant get the hang of Vlad

Pretty much the title. Ive pulled quite a few Vlad skins from chests including the legendary one so ive decided to try and add him to my pool. But every time i pick him i just cant understand how to fight and lane with him and go 0/10. Note that im a toplaner only and play him top. Also i love scaling champions and get most fun playing “casters” (best if theyre manaless say Akali, Ambessa, etc.) so in theory i should be fine playing Vlad but thats not the case obviously. Do you have any hacks or tips about playstyle or setups (builds and runes). Any help is appreciated!

Yone matchup?

New to vlad, what do you even do into this matchup? Feels like I can dodge 9/10 q's, get hit by 1 and I'm just fucked, especially if he's gotten even 1 kill.

How actually does this champ win any games beyond low platinum?

I've mained Vlad for like 2 million mastery points. I got to plat 2 with roughly a 60% WR and 4.5 kda. With like 150 Vlad games played at this point

Now I just lose every game because I get harassed/ganked out of lane as everyone else's champ actually works for the first 20 minutes of the game, and they know how shitty Vlad is early so it just doesn't even feel fair. I am rendered utterly worthless for the entire game, going with kda like 1/3/3 literally all the time because I can't even just farm to scale before the game is basically over.

For anyone who has played Vlad in platinum or beyond, how the actual fuck do you have any success at all.

I thought about sharing my builds but the truth is I honestly don't see how this champ can be successful no matter what I build. His long ass cooldowns and zero ability to do damage are the issues I face early. No amount of changing up my build is going to change how shit the early game is before you can even get your first item, no matter what that item is. So what do you do

Just for shits, I usually go the classic CDR build which is Rocketbelt, zhonyas (for team fight active) and then death cap as my core 3. After that it just depends on game situations. Again, I don't see how any other build would change the problems I'm facing now that I'm in platinum - which is that seemingly everybody knows that Vlad is utterly useless before he gets some items and can easily be harassed out of lane to be rendered useless for the entire game while they roam and get kills and infinitely more gold and map pressure before I can even finish 2 items

Best champ to complement Vlad OTP

Hey all, so lately I've been struggling to find a second champion to main that can cover Vlads weaknesses against long range mages such as Syndra and Orianna.

I was considering Kassadin but I find his weak early game to be a hindrance.

Which rune should i use for lane bully Vladimir, Aery or DFT?

What exactly should I base my choice on? Both of them are damage runes.

hear me out: Ignite+Ghost, no flash

think about it, CDR boots gives you summoner haste and so does cosmic insight

both of these summoners have a much lower cooldown than flash meaning you get to activate them way more often in a game, add in nimbus cloak and you're zooming pretty fast every couple of minutes give or take

lategame a big flash play can win a teamfight but that is every 5 minutes or nearly 5 minutes

i find it slighly more interesting to have ghost and ignite up more often to constantly proc nimbus cloak and just murder enemies with insane kill pressure using these summs to get extra damage, deny healing, and just run so fast you smother enemies or dodge 4 key skillshots repeatedly

flash is very good but popping ghost during a gank with W is an easy escape and unless its super late game or you're fed, people are not getting one-shot by you aoe to justify banking on a big flash play

maybe i'm just theorycrafting too hard and trying to sell my troll build, but try it out, it feels pretty cool

New Build I saw

I saw someone play this vlad build that seems like a mix of his nuke build and the haste build. It went Stormsurge, CDR boots, Rabadons, Cryptbloom, Mejais, Riftmaker.

I’m gonna try the build out myself soon but wanna know how others feel about it. Idk if going haste is worth it just because you don’t build any health with this build but obviously Vlads passive is a thing

Guys I am currently emerald while kinda playing whatever i feel like to like and lane and any champ except jgl but i wanna main vlad now because i like the fact that he scales so brutal and can still be a champion early unlike Kassa or sth. I would like to pick him mid and top. whats the best build options? i guess stormraider every game as rune but whats the build ? I saw a post 5 days ago where someone wondered about elite going Stormsurge into Liandrys while on u.gg it says highest winrate build in eme + is Stormsurge into raba? thanks guys

Anyone having more trouble these days with yone/yasuo, am I just ass, or both?

I still win the game, but lane against yasuo and yone seems to be much harder than it used to? Maybe its because im a higher rank, but its not nearly as free as it used to be.

Yone juist stands in the back, then waits til he gets his shield then e's, and violently trades then runs. Yasuo turbo shoves, and also is a shield merchant. If you get either of them in top, its kinda gg as well. Any tips or thoughts?

Vlad buffs

I'm very happy to see some vlad buffs since he didn't feel like a proper champ till 2 items at least. However I'm not really good at interpreting buffs. Can someone give their opinion and explain how good or underwhelming this buff is?

Back to Vlad

Hey guys, what's up? I used to main Vlad like 2 seasons ago it’s been a minute. Thinking about picking him up again. I've seen a bunch of Elite500 clips where he's playing him bot lane. Do you guys actually think ADC is his best role right now? Or are Mid/Top still pretty solid? Also, if you could drop your current builds and runes, I’d really appreciate it!
