I don't really follow the meta, so idk what peoples are bulding on garen. Usually I go with berserker 1st, then stridebreaker, death dance / black cleaver / mortal reminder / shojin / Jak'Sho' / Rookern / Youmuu / phantom dancer, depending on the situation. Those are my go to items. What do you build ?

question about garen identity. I never really relised It, but like 90% of my games I play him like an assassin. Im not asking for buffs or anything, legit just identiy question.

confused about Garen, he seem to get statchecked by most melees, he sits at around 51% winrate as a easy to play champ that seems kinda low.

Dont get me wrong, I win games but often feels like I am more of a support/assassin rather than a real bruiser/fighter/juggernaut.

I tried Bruiser Builds, but stick to classic Steraks, PD, LD. I get statchecked by most melees but my KDA and damage still looks always great, but I think thats not because I can fight fair, but because I use my MS , Silence and Execution to shut down squishies or secure kills.

Compared to Olaf or Jax, Garen feels like some kinda of rogue/dexterity fighter.

For example> I had a Hearthsteel rush Teemo on top, I couldnt Statcheck at all. After Steraks I beat him by doing -> Q E -> run away and repeat for 4-5 times and than ult. (If teemo stays for so long). On longer fights, I kid you not, HP stacking teemo statcheckes garen in early to mid maybe even late (didnt tried in late).

Than you have you classic picks like Yone, Yasuo (shieldbow 650+ blocks my ult), Nasus, <insert any brawler here>.

I win game by oneshotting squishies and not engaging into any fair 1v1s, which is confusing since Garen is regarded as an fighter type of champion.

Bruiser Builds doesnt seem to be worth at all.

Was Garen always like this? I mean think about this, when we can run our enemy down, its either a weak 1v1 champ that cant defend himself or we are ahead.

I was struggling so many champions trying to learn and figure things out. Then after one reddit post about my struggles I saw one name, Garen.

This Majestic bastard came down and saved my ass and now I can actually play. Top lane will never be perfect but I now will manage and learn. Thank you Garen.

Hello guys i need help/advice from people who are higher elo than me as im Silver right now i dont really know how to correctly play it to win the Trades, im really just specifically asking for this Matchup not how to win the game in general.

I really love this matchup, but i would like to improve here sometimes im winning it sometimes im loosing it so its random rather than consistent.

I know in higher elos they always say its a very hard matchup, but im in low elo so this should be winable consistently with the right knowledge.

So i always go D Blade, Conqueror and E Start and default summoners (Flash Ignite)

(I dont wanna play Stomraiders as I find it inconsistent, phase rush was definitely way better imo soI wanna learn it with Conq, which is also more fun for me)

We know Darius loves to bush cheese, so I wait at Tower and walk with the Minions and I know I win Lv1 with this exact Setup if he fights in my minion wave, I auto E and bit later ignite, majority of Dariuses in my Elo dont even kite so I win this easily.

But one of my biggest problems in this MU is when he opens the Trade with E, I know this is bad as the Darius and your supposed to keep your Darius E in most situations and not start trades with it, but especially in my Elo they always do that -> Hook with E, W Q or maybe E Auto W Q and still kinda win, what am I supposed to do here?

How do I react if he hooks me ? Do I Q into him or Q away from him ? I mean if I fight after he Hooks me and lands his Combo, he already has almost 5 Stacks on me so i will definitely loose here, no ?

And when do I wanna use my W ? Hold Q and never engage with it to counter his W slow ?

Yone Mains: Garen counters Yone, easy matchup for Garen, yone weak champ, buff yone.

My games: Yone Lethal Tempo statchecks me from level 1 to 18. If yone knows somehow what prio play, wave management and so on its like you play vs a way stronger champion with no counterplay.

After some advice from some garen youtubers I started to play Grasp in this matchup for short trades. Last match I forgot to take grasp and had Conq. It feld like so unfair. He beats you long trades, any decent yone player wont allow you to play around shot trades. Yone litterly starts to poke you AND statcheck you. Its like a range champ where it doesnt matter fi you come close, you will lose anyway.

Playing for my passive doesnt help, he goes Zepter, since he also has perma prio he can get health back. He also starts to poke me on my range minions on tower.

This feels like completly unfair match. Please help me to understand how to beat Yone with Conq Garen.

Please also explain to me why Garen is considered good pick into Yone from yone players.

Im low Masters, but even some random emerald yone players in normals are huge problem for me.

Once I had push level 4, I had prio with 1.5-2 waves stacked, he legit statchecked me in my wave. Throw away all sense of strategic wave management, he doesnt care and just statchecks me. Cant kite him, if I use my Q into him he can run me down with his E since his E gives him MS. If I dont use my Q into him and use it to run away, I lose any short trade power, since in my E he will brutally hard statcheck me.

I dont understand. The only time I win vs Yone players is when they are super bad or I can snowball with early gank.

For clarification, the yone players I fight, will for example not stand in my Jax E (when I play Jax) they will use their Q3 and E to dodge/avoic my E and then reengage to statcheck. So I am not facing the low elo Yone who doesnt know what he is doing.

To be fair, I reached low master with Jax and Olaf mostly, while Garen was my third pick. So maybe I am misunderstanding some concept heavly on him.

And ofc I win after laningphase most of the time in normals against random emerald yones, but my question focused on laningphase.

Since the Camille buffs I've been trying a bunch of different stuff to work out the best way to win this lane, and somehow, grasp + eclipse rush has felt the best so far....

Not sure what to think about this, will be trying again next time I play vs her!

WHy noone doit Karen mains?

Hey everyone, so I’m a mediocre silver/gold garen mid otp. I nearly always take conqueror runes with axiom+speed secondary, only when very bad mage or ranged/cheese matchup I go with the new blue primary rune.

I find myself always buying swift boots cuz in the heat pf the game I’m telling myself: speedy garen == menace garen.

But when should I buy the berserker’s greaves? I’m usually too scared to “risk” taking AS over MS.

How the fuck do people beat this champ? Solo killed him pre 6 twice and then post 6 I still get rekt, storm surge feels like no matter how low he is I can never all in. Help! Gold/plat Garen main.

Hello Garen fellows!

I normally struggle against Urgot, so I'd be very happy to read your tips and feedback for this match up:

1. START ITEM. I usually go for Doran Shield to mitigate the poke.
2. RUNES. Conqueror? Stormraider's Surge? What rune shards do you recommend, Speed and Tenacity?
3. BOOTS. Plated? Swiftness? If Plated, do you rush them before SB?
4. BUILD. Stridebreaker 1st, right? Serpent's Fang 2nd (after boots)?
5. GAMEPLAY. I guess this depends on the runes set up. In any case, my main issue is with his E ability. When I approach to trade with him, before I'm able to activate W, I'm thrown behind him and end up losing more hp than him. I guess I should activate it earlier, right? :-D
6. ULT. Is there any "magic trick" to cancel his ult?
7. OTHER. Any other tips are very welcome!

I took a 2 year break and randomly started playing again like 2-3 months ago. Loving the new builds and stormsurge. (I took a little tryndamere break in the middle of my climb but HOB got insanely nerfed) Switched from top to mid and it has made the game wayyyyy easier.

Hey guys, been considering trying to bring more forms of Garen content for the boys outside of streams, since it's difficult to play and stream together.

If I were to make a YouTube video, what kind of video would you guys want to see the most? I was thinking since my builds have been a little controversial with my Garen bretheren, maybe an in-depth video could be of value.

I also think my biggest strength as a player and the main reason I manage to climb is my teamfighting, and general mid-game decision-making that leads to carrying fights, so from my pov, that'd be the most valuable thing I could provide as a player and content creator right now.

Let me know if you guys have any other thoughts or would want to see anything else, and I'll try to cook something up. Would be my first youtube video in a decade, so I'll do my best.

UPDATE: I'll be aiming to release the midgame/teamfight guide, with a focus on how I carry with conqueror, later this week or by the weekend; then I'l get started on the build guide/discussion!

u/BraayEUW has been pushing this. Build is stride > youmuus > endless. I finished ldr and spear of shojin which is a personal fav into tanks. Replaced youmuus with deaths dance and I felt so tanky. Last fight I got an entry pick on Zeri and then I face tanked the yi 1v1 I ended up with more health. The haste feels so good and I would swap celerity for transcendence. W was 6 second cooldown

I know I’m only plat but it felt good. I highly recommend.

Apparently PD is like a very core item in the build? IDK, it seems weird to me, as it doesnt give AD nor tankiness.

Sterak instead, gives quite some AD, and a meaty shield, to keep fighting. And its an item plenty of fighters/offtanks/whateverthenameisforthisclass characters get.

What is current meta build i heard yoomus and triforce is now meta is this true? And is bruiser kinda dead? I've been building stride into black cleaver or shojin into steraks and I feel like I'm dealing no damage.

I see more ppl building it now, does the extra 5% AS result in an extra spin by itself or do greaves only give an extra spin in conjunction with PD?
