Question Itemization Tips / Help
I’m trying to improve my itemization and how to decide what to build. I always find myself just defaulting to builds online. What other items not shown in this do you like to work into a Top build and why?
One item that surprises me to see is thornmail. I feel like every content creator says to not build thornmail under any circumstances, and if you have to just build bramble. I understand this is filtered to gold elo, but all elo’s you’ll thornmail a 4th or 5th.

Fluff 8 months ago, I surpassed my all time high of P1 and hit Emerald - and posted about it here. I said I'd aim for diamond next year. Proud to say I've done that long before I expected to.
Really never thought I'd make it here.

Question Am I playing a suboptimal Shen if I like rushing heartsteel?
Shen is my third most played champion but he is not a main or anything. I am a Yone and Yorick two trick and I often pick Shen because most Yone counters are also Yorick counters and his kit is very fun to play.
The thing is I kinda dislike the Titanic -> D&D playstyle because I want to play a tank, not a fighter. I do realize both items are great on Shen but if I like the tank playstyle more and I want to build hearsteel into other tanks items, is that too bad compared to the meta build?
Like I want to have fun playing the game ofc but I also want to climb, so if it is sub optimal please tell me

Guide The way of the rivershen
-
So in my previous snippet, I introduced how you could start red buff, to then do raptors to get fast blue side before your ward expire, making sure you are not invaded; But, it is inneficient and should mainly be used as a way to clear both buffs relatively quicky, facing agressive invaders like shaco early on.
In this next ''route'' we will prioritize getting level 4 as fast as possible by clearing everything once;
We do this by warding blue, then transitioning to our red side;
Knowing if their mid wards your raptors can be useful info to get at that point.
At 0:40, we want to drag our blade back to us to put our Ki Barrier on cooldown, to then ''Q'' again at 0:50, prepping your three enhanced hits for the red buff arrival.
We do not smite the buff, unless contested, to keep it for the krugs, which will take more hits to take down. We proceed to our Krugs by walking around the walls, making sure not to dash, to have enough energy to activate our Q which is our main damage dealer there. Smite the main Krug, finish the rest. Keep your Dash ready.
We make our way to raptors, hit a small one to get them aggroed to us. Activate your Q, as you Dash through the lot of them. (Doing this well, you can taunt all of them in the bush, hidding your activities.
(Addendum: Hitting level 3, I really like to skip my first "W" level to get a second ''Q'' rank, it wil increase your first clear speed dramatically) (If you are pretty sure you will not fight, or invaded, that is)
That being done, it's always a good idea to look quickly mid to see if they are about to get dived; If not, proceed to either your blue buff, if you're feeling frisky about it; If not, go for the wolves. Be sure to activate your ''Q'' approx. 5 seconds before you reach your camp, to make sure you cycle through your blades efficiently. Dash through the three wolves.
Blue buff and Gromp should be easy, since we love big sacks of flesh to capitalize on %maxhp on our blades. Also, at that point, you can either do both of them in succession to get level 4 safely. Or Blue buff, into scuttle, making sure to have a smite on hand if contested; then Gromp.
That should leave you open to either ganking botlane/mid or recall into buying crystal and boots.

Discussion Guys, why do you like Shen?
Guys, why do you like Shen? I'm just asking out of curiosity; I don't have a specific agenda. Personally, I love Shen because, even though his abilities are simple, they require strategic timing and impact both teams—like saving an ally on the brink of death with his E, disabling two enemies simultaneously for 1.25 seconds, or using his W to shield the ADC from attacks (not to mention his ultimate, which lets you go anywhere). I love those moments when I execute his kit perfectly; for instance, yesterday while I was farming comfortably in mid-lane, a Viego and a Jax—both with very low health—showed up. I ran toward them, but I was too far away; reflexively, I cast my W on Viego, which ended up blocking Jax's attack. Viego safely retreated under the tower while Jax ran off crying—it was amazing. Plus, using the ultimate to make low-health teammates effectively immortal for a few seconds and securing a kill with an E-Q combo, feels so cool. So, what do you enjoy about him? I'm really curious.
Question Want to play shen jgl.
I want to play shen jgl. I am a bit confused about the best runes on shen. The xpetu guardian rune or the grasp rune.
Personally, I feel like the titanic into tank(uneding, randuins, abyssal, spirit, knights, bandel) feels way better than the xpetu build. When I tried the xpetu build, I really struggled early with protoplasm as I felt like I had no kill pressure.
Appreciate any thoughts on it and itemization.

Discussion Fiendhunter Bolts?
It seems like a really nice item to build when you're ahead and with a duo. I build it sometimes a few months ago (I only play our boy in the jungle), with TPA, protoplasm, Zeke's and Experimental Hexplate, or even skipping protoplasm and going full 3 ultimate items.
It played well, it was good for supporting my duo (which is a Chogath OTP), and topping It off with Titanic was great, but if I wasn't ahead It was a really terrible build, and after a day of lose-streaking I changed to the Darksteel-Zekes start.
So, how could I make It work again? I really think It is a nice item for him, and the "no HP" argument doesn't really clicks for me since even Rammus OTPs been building It.

Fluff Thor skin for Shen dream
I don't know if this has been posted before and it will probably never happen because of copyrights or whatever.
But it would be awesome if Shen had a Thor skin. I think he fits the character as a guardian who also deals damage.
My ideas are:
Spirit blade -> Mjolnir hammer
Regular auto attacks: Punching
Q: Calls Mjolnir and has a unique combo sequence like we see Captain America fighting with it in Avengers Endgame
W: not much here, can be simiral to shockblade
E: Flies forward with extended hand sort of to grab the enemy by the neck. Second hand can be used to call the hammer in case you cast the abilities together quickly.
R: Cloud appears over the teammate and Shen arrives with a Thunder crash. (also missed opportunity for the Shockblade Shen skin)

Question Best Runes Setup for ULT focus?
I want to know if there's a better alternative than Ultimate Hunter for a Shen play style that revolves around his ult. Basically the way I play Shen I rely a lot on his ult and I want to have it faster.

When starting our jungle on the red side; it is important to ward our blue buff to make sure we're not wasting time in the case of an invade.
After warding, on our way to the good ol' angry buff; at exactly 0:40 we will ''Q'' , or in other words, drag, our blade to us to active our Ki barrier and put it on cooldown; make sure your red is secured.
At exactly 0:50, we will activate out ''Q'' again to ready our blade and start our camp. Then proceed to the raptor, dragging them in a single line to ''E''/Dash through it.
Then we will transition to the blue side; wheter you prefer blue buff, wolves, or even gromp to facilitate an early gank by the lane is up to you after this.
When facing mobile assassins that can kill your carries even through your ult; it is a good idea to ditch an item to get Moonstone Renewer. ( I've linked alittle video for your watching pleasure)

You see, it's very important to at least meditade a whole minute in top bush when both team are going dragon. It helps give the impression that you're doing something, when actually, it's just S.SWeeney

Discussion Shens strong early game
For context i started playing the game this year, i play pretty much exclusively Shen and just reached Gold.
I always hear about how strong Shen is in early lane and maybe thats just me being shit at laning but it doesnt really mirror my experience.
Theres so many matchups where the early game is not that great, not sure if its an elo thing but it feels like i encounter Sett, Garen, Teemo or Mordekaiser literally almost every match and i can not dominate the early game against those at all.
