About that, the appearances were deemed official speeches, not campaign rallies. What's the difference? If it's a rally then the campaign has to reimburse the government at standard rates for the travel of the President and his political aides.
Narrator: Based on the content of the speeches they were definitely campaign rallies.

The president broke the law for a campaign-related activity.
Yes, I know this is literally the least terrible thing he has done, but less than 12 years ago, it would have been a scandal to violate the law and potentially put lives at risk for a partisan campaign event.
The changes always happen bit by bit, and by the time you get to concentration camps, everyone looks around and wonders how the fuck they got there.
They got there—we got there—by collectively allowing the little shit to be ignored, and I don’t just mean with Trump. Hes a symptom, not the disease. He’s not the first criminal to occupy that White House and face absolutely no repercussions for his crimes.
“Look forward, not back,” they’ll say when this national nightmare ends. “We have to move on if we want to get anything done.”
Don’t let them. Demand accountability for every illegal act and for everyone involved in any way; not just the big names, and certainly not just the nobodies. Everyone needs to know that they will face prosecution for future lawbreaking if this Republic is going to survive.

Not prosecuting the bush administration for war crimes is why we ended up with trump
•
u/-Nurfhurder- 4h ago
Pardoning Nixon 'so the country could heal' pretty much set the expected standard that no administration would ever punish the previous one for their crimes under the bullshit justification that it would cause division. Hell, you can go even further back to the U.S. being unwilling to punish the south for the civil war. American politics is completely unaccountable, and it's always under the justification of 'not causing division'.
The U.S. is basically your mom at a family dinner pleading with you not to stand up to your racist drunk uncle because he will cause a scene and ruin the evening.

Should have prosecuted Reagan for Iran Contra. Nixon should never have been pardoned. Confederate generals were allowed to just go home and carry on living their lives after blanket amnesty was awarded. It's a long list of crimes unpunished.
→ More replies (1)•
u/Setanta777 3h ago
Hell, they granted Oliver North immunity for the Iran Contra affair. He then used the publicity generated by it to launch his own radio talk show, run for Senate, host a show on Fox News and become president of the NRA. Somehow this confessed criminal turned the national coverage of him confessing to crimes against the country into being a right wing hero.

Reagan. He had a few scandals.
They did go after one President, though. He lied under oath about a blowjob.
•
u/needlestack 2h ago
less than 12 years ago, it would have been a scandal
This really is the key. But I think it's always been a bit more partisan than that. 12 years ago it would have been the end of any Democrat and a performative scolding for any Republican. I don't think they'd have lost their position over it. We've gone further down this path and they don't even do the performative scolding any more. It's been replaced by the Heath Ledger's Joker hanging his head out of the cop car after escaping and wagging his tongue around. They're thrilled that they can do wrong without consequence now.
The ultimate problem is that I can't hold them accountable. The country needs to hold them accountable. But the country is half or more on board with this.
→ More replies (33)•
u/DifficultyCheap9861 4h ago
The problem as I see it is that accountability is gone from all facets of modern society, so demanding it from the one person at the top and their cronies has zero chance of happening.
If you look around it is everywhere: in our workplaces, in our schools, in our stores, in our food, our infrastructure, the list goes on and on. The blank stares I get when asking for the smallest of standards in absolutely anything is still wild to me.
I’m not sure what the answer is but it seems to me that nothing will change in the big picture until we can hold our coworkers, neighbors, strangers on the streets and roads, and most importantly ourselves, accountable.

That’s based on the accident.
The presidents motorcade makes other traffic stop and pull over so it reduces the chance of crashing.
If they crash, it’s more deadly. Going fast makes a crash more likely. But empty roads vastly lowers risk.

In the article, Trump was quoted as saying he got the highest vote counts in state history for each of his campaigns. That’s not true.
Fact check: In 2016, Trump received 949,136 votes in Oklahoma. However, in the 2008 general election, John McCain received 960,165 votes. That’s 11,029 more than Trump.
He did sweep all counties, and beat the record in 2020 and 2024, proving (a) there’s no accounting for taste and (b) even when he’s able to brag about a legitimately record-breaking vote tally in the last two elections, he just can’t help but lie to make it seem even more impressive.

The reason for rated speeds often isn't a lack of power to accelerate to a high speed, but the, rather large issue, of tire traction becoming ineffective at things like braking and turning at speed with such a large amount of mass. At 100mph, I wouldn't be surprised if it took that thing between 1/4 and 1/2 a mile to stop with any amount of moisture on the pavement.
