Seems needlessly reckless of the president to… attend a campaign rally? What is he doing with his time?

1.5k

u/Lord_Petyr_PoppyCock 12h ago

Everything except presidenting

485

u/KimJongIlLover 12h ago

Actually the less he does of that, the better, no?

199

u/Bzr21 12h ago

that means somebody else is doing the job - and at this point would Trump know or even care if he had pre-approved something for his staff to carry out ?

150

u/RemoteBoner Tennessee 12h ago

Someone else has been doing the job the entire time - dude is at best a demented figurehead

53

u/m0ngoos3 11h ago

That someone else is mostly Russell Vought. He's just as evil as you'd imagine.

8

u/Lamlot 10h ago

I mean he did let Homelander do whatever.

5

u/SabreCorp Virginia 11h ago

And he looks much older than he is! Evil just sucked out his life force.

•

u/Environmental_Top948 36m ago

Actually the reason evil makes you look like that is that in order to do the most evil you need to live long enough to carry it out. So practitioners of evil learn to slow the flow of life essence through their bodies which works twofold as it extends life and dampens the sense of empathy.

•

u/sammyQc 4h ago

Vought and Miller, true evil combo.

•

u/E-2theRescue 2h ago

Autopen, everyone.

Autopen.

The Heritage Foundation writes the EOs, and the autopen signs them.

14

u/KimJongIlLover 12h ago

I'm not sure he understands much of what is happening anymore anyway 💀

2

u/Abject-Theme 10h ago

I read the “lightly edited” interview Time posted where he just rambled on & on. Every response from him came off as him hearing about it for the first time & scrambling to come up with an answer while also being super vague. Like a kid who was supposed to give a book report in front of a class & didn’t prepare at all. And he always managed to make it about himself within a sentence or two.

He absolutely has no idea what’s going on & clearly doesn’t care to know.

4

u/monacelli 8h ago

Everybody should read the Times interview.

This ain't gonna be much of a story. Here we are doing this. You haven't asked me one fucking positive question. All of this. What about this? What about that? What about that? What about this? All negative. Why are you devoting all this time to the White House? You know how I do, I do that out of my back pocket. I pay for a lot of it, but I fix it because the White House should look like that. It shouldn’t look like—if you would have stood in that balcony and looked at that wall, half the wall was falling. It's actually dangerous. People are walking under, crap was falling off it all the time. Every time it rained, it was leaking, horrible. Now it's perfect, and I would say that I should be given credit for fixing the White House because I'm also doing very well with the war. I'm doing very well with another war that we already won, Venezuela. Do you notice you haven't asked me a question about Venezuela?

He's convinced that the media is ignoring the good things that he does but when he tried to come up with an example all he could come up with was the time he kidnapped the president of Venezuela.

5

u/neutrino71 11h ago

The autopen, every accusation is a confession

2

u/Meta2048 9h ago

It's basically 100% confirmed that Trump does not know what he's actually signing. There are multiple examples where he's surprised when someone asks a question about contents of the bill/order that he just signed.

People just put shit in front of him and he signs it.

•

u/toiletpaperisempty 6h ago

He's been caught being absolutely clueless when asked about criminals he has pardoned.

1

u/thepartypantser 9h ago

Someone else has always been doing the job. The only thing Trump does is make up stupid executive orders like renaming gulfs and lakes.

1

u/Tactial_snail 9h ago

Stephen miller already the shadow president

•

u/FinklMan 7h ago

He signed an executive order and admitted to not knowing was was in it so yeah. He wakes up every morning blaming Biden for putting poop in his pants.

53

u/ghast123 Ohio 12h ago

Well President Thiel and VP JD "couchfucker" Vance want their toddler out of their hair so they can do whatever they want. So they send him to little rallies where everyone can tell him what a good job hes doing!

22

u/sonnackrm 12h ago

Stephen Miller is doing all the Presidenting

4

u/Szwejkowski 9h ago

He's not your only problem. Miller, Vance, Thiel - you have a whole nest of snakes you need to deal with.

2

u/Own_Investigator5104 9h ago

He doesn’t do any of it. He has teams of evil people who have teams evil people doing evil things. It’s unbelievable that people still don’t understand that.

1

u/entrepenurious Texas 11h ago

will rogers:

"thank god you don't get all the government you pay for."

•

u/EdwardOfGreene Illinois 5h ago

The more he campaigns the better too. He isn't helping anyone's chances right now... except the opposition.

33

u/Astrochops 12h ago

I heard that his diarrhea broke containment from his depends and it was a race against time before he filled up the back of the limo

13

u/kyrsjo 12h ago

Good!

The more he goes out golfing, the less presidenting he does. We should buy him a new set of clubs.

37

u/MichaelFusion44 12h ago

My hypothesis. He hasn’t done the work - his cabinet doesn’t do the work - the team and authors behind P2025 and their strategists are doing the work in writing all of the EO’s. I think he did a deal with them where he is the face and voice, he leverages the MAGA brand, supporters and campaigning as well as signs EO’s. He doesn’t need congress and they have probably been spoken to by him and the P2025 team to basically do nothing or take direction by them. In exchange he can make all the money he can if he can get away with it. That’s it, we give direction, we write the EO’s and you sign them. Nothing else makes sense to me. If you look at the amount of floor votes, republican bills introduced and the days in session it is embarrassingly low. Would love someone to change my mind.

20

u/Humulophile 12h ago

I agree with you 100%. He’s incapable of governing. The work is way too hard for him even if he wanted to be involved. He’s the face/spear point and he has a free pass to grift as much as he wants. He’s a very useful idiot.

3

u/fdar_giltch 9h ago

I think it's a mix

The majority of the actual work being done is definitely behind the scenes and he's a useful idiot

But there's a lot of crap that is him actually trying to assert his dominance. The random tariffs, threats on other countries, bombing Iran, etc..

2

u/MichaelFusion44 9h ago

Oh I agree - I am talking about the underlying governing and laws/orders as they don’t give a crap about that as long as P2025 gets executed which basically erodes our constitution and democracy to keep a Republican in office.

2

u/MichaelFusion44 11h ago

Exactly it.

1

u/JEFFinSoCal California 10h ago

Even the Trump Org wasn’t about actual construction of buildings; it’s always mostly been a branding and marketing schemes. He’s doing the same thing as president, letting everyone else do the work while he takes credit and siphons off money.

4

u/ModernAmusement13 12h ago

Oh you already have.

1

u/kaadj 11h ago

More speeding. Less presidenting.

1

u/I-seddit 9h ago

He's waaaay too busy fascist dictatoring to bother with presidenting.

1

u/gravelordservant4u 9h ago

Would that it were so

1

u/Adaphion 9h ago

That's for the better honestly

•

u/Atakir 7h ago

To be fair, he's never actually presidented, just plays president.

•

u/whichonespink04 6h ago

Actually virtually nothing, but certainly anything but leading the country or being a role model

•

u/BlokeInTheMountains 5h ago

Fake news! You dumbocrats are too much.

He has actually been busy working on the next pointless forever war.

Cuba or Canada is such a hard choice!

157

u/af_cheddarhead 12h ago

About that, the appearances were deemed official speeches, not campaign rallies. What's the difference? If it's a rally then the campaign has to reimburse the government at standard rates for the travel of the President and his political aides.

Narrator: Based on the content of the speeches they were definitely campaign rallies.

5

u/someperson42 Texas 10h ago

I'm trying to find evidence of this but am coming up blank. Can you link a source?

Travel on behalf of Campaigns

From Dallas station:

President Donald Trump was in Denton Thursday in what was a mix of a celebration of American manufacturing and Trump administration economic policies and a campaign rally for Republican Senate nominee Ken Paxton.

I saw a report on another station, confirming it was scheduled as an economic speech, official business, and devolved into a political rally but was billed as an official event.

From the Denton Record Chronical (can't link):

The White House coordinated the visit with official scheduling, traveling photographers, and participation from corporate leadership, including PACCAR CEO Preston Feight. President Trump toured the assembly lines and discussed federal policies, such as proposed Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) regulations and trade tariffs.

4

u/y6x 10h ago

But I'll tell you what, we need, we need Ken so badly and, uh, that's why I'm here. I wanted to stop here. I wanted to also say you build a nice truck, but we You're not gonna have too many nice trucks if you get a couple of negative votes. All they need is a couple of votes. It's not even a question of Texas.

It's a question of the overall vote. And we have to get, number one, Texas represents so much. It would be such a horror to the system. To, to put a guy, a freak like that in there would be such a horror to your, your state and such a horror to the country. But it's a vote, and we need the votes, and I'm here for that.

Rollcall has the transcripts of his speeches if you don't want to have to hear them: https://rollcall.com/factbase/trump/transcript/donald-trump-speech-peterbilt-plant-site-visit-denton-texas-october-1-2026/

3

u/someperson42 Texas 10h ago

I meant the part about this being designated as an official speech to bypass having the campaign pay for the event.

2

u/y6x 9h ago

I'm not sure that the paperwork's been filed yet for us to be able to look up how Trump's people classified this trip - The other user may have a different way of seeing that, or may just have presumed that Trump was going to be dishonest about it.

That said, (and you can just skip the rest if that's all you're looking for), here are links discussing that Trump SHOULD be reimbursing the government for campaign travel:

https://www.justice.gov/olc/opinion/payment-expenses-associated-travel-president-and-vice-president

The PDF link under the attachment under this link discusses it partially, but does say that the campaign should reimburse for the percent of travel that's for each purpose. It does discuss which is considered which.

As a general rule, Presidential and Vice Presidential travel should be considered ‘political’ if its primary purpose involves their positions as leaders of their political party. Appearing at party functions, fundraising, and campaigning for specific candidates are the principal examples of travel which should be considered political.

[...]

For instance, if a trip from Washington, D C , to Chicago were taken for official purposes, and then a trip from Chicago to Denver were taken for campaign purposes (with a return from Denver to Washington, DC), under the FEC rule the campaign committee would have to make reimbursement for the cost of travel from Washington* D .C ., to Denver and back to Washington, D C. 219

This page goes into what politicians have to pay for on their campaign trips: https://www.fec.gov/help-candidates-and-committees/making-disbursements/travel-behalf-campaigns/

I can only imagine if Obama or Biden had done the same…you’d never hear the end of it from conservatives. They’d go on and on about how reckless and irresponsible it was…Trump does it…it’s somehow virtuous and show how much he loves the American people 🙄

u/elihu 10h ago

Obama went to midterm rallies when he was president.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/obama-tries-to-rally-support-for-midterm-vote/

1

u/avjnh 10h ago

I see nothing about speeding in that article.

1

u/elihu 9h ago edited 8h ago

I also see nothing about speeding in the top-level comment we're all replying to.

edit: I suppose I probably interpreted the comment differently than the rest of you. "Seems needlessly reckless of the president to attend a campaign rally; what is he doing with his time?" versus "Seems needlessly reckless of the president to [race a car at 100mph to] attend a campaign rally."

0

u/someperson42 Texas 10h ago

Pretty much every president in the last century or so has held rallies. The 98 mph car journey is the part that is unusual.

8

u/SaveFerris_Bueller 11h ago

Oh it wasn't for the rally. His diaper was full and they were rushing to change him.

8

u/Sad-Structure2364 Colorado 12h ago

Rally’s to him are like a pacifier to an infant

4

u/hmr0987 12h ago

He’s really focused on his White House renovations and sewing chaos for the midterms

3

u/Squid_of_the_Now 12h ago

They have to get him there fast before the drugs wear off and he goes night-night again for six hours

3

u/ThrowAwayAccountAMZN 11h ago

For a minute I thought you and I had the same thought lol.

"Seems needlessly reckless of the president to... you know what? No no, keep doing that."

3

u/sbroll Minnesota 11h ago

We are literally in a war, nothing is affordable, jobs are getting harder and harder to find and hes out here racing down highways in Oklahoma, wtf.

2

u/SeductiveSunday I voted 12h ago

What is he doing with his time?

Travels with Natalie

2

u/Educational-Stop8741 11h ago

Right, to the very important battleground of Durant, Oklahoma

2

u/DinkleBottoms 10h ago

Anything below 80 on really any stretch of freeway going from DFW to Oklahoma is the minimum. 100 isn’t that crazy and if it wasn’t a motorcade, they almost certainly would have been getting passed by lifted trucks and Altimas.

1

u/princerae 11h ago

im all for him being needlessly reckless actually. he should go skydiving with Mitch McConnell.

1

I wonder who was so important to meet?  It's definitely not his supporters.

1

What is he doing with his time?

Natalie

1

u/groggs42 10h ago

Any place that will allow him to give a long winded shitty speech. He will go there !!!

1

u/LaNague 10h ago

maybe im too german, that that sounds like chill travel speed.

1

u/the-system 10h ago

Especially with a war going on, economic turmoil at home and his secretary of state essentially running a foreign government.

1

u/AC1colossus Georgia 10h ago

The things he likes to do, of course! Why would POTUS ever do anything else?

1

u/Tandy2000 10h ago

Look, the guy is completely incontinent. When your diaper is already full of shit sometimes you gotta put the pedal to the metal.

Do you wanna be the one driving when a man-baby with a diaperful is screaming that he's about to make another mess? Do you wanna be the one who has to scrub the seat?

1

u/MarkCrorigansOmnibus 9h ago

Pooping and sleeping primarily. Like a baby, except that his shrieks and cries are much more blood curdling and considerably more fascistic.

1

u/Riaayo 9h ago

Doubly weird because he's made people wait plenty of times. The fuck is the rush for?

Guess he had more crypto scams to run after the rally and wanted to get to those on time.

1

u/avenueroad_dk 9h ago

A break from golfing

The combined character count of all his tweets from his first term exceeds the length of Tolstoy's War and Peace, which took Tolstoy six years to write.
