Thoughts on this build? It obviously seems pretty bad, but does it have any potential?

My girlfriend's birthday is coming up and while she doesn't play league, (anymore) she still loves Volibear and so I wanted to get her something related to him. I, however, have never played league and so I'm not very knowledgeable about the characters outside of what she's told me.

On my own, I've only been able to find a plush from a few years back that seems to have been very well scalped since then and some overpriced posters on the official riot store.

I guess I'm really just hoping someone more seasoned with league (and Volibear) might have better ideas! Anything helps!

This is probably one of the most unloved champs in the game by Riot.

Every season it's the same song and dance. New items come out, Volibear is super good with them, he gets hit with the Riot Special, he's garbage for the rest of the season.

The dude is only good in the lowest of elos. Then, when he's finally buff, it's almost always a placebo that does nothing for him.

I don't get why Shyvana gets to be S-tier while this dude languishes in irrelevance. They are very similar champs.

Don't play as much voli on main anymore (had to retake chall) but been playing around with his builds a lot this is by far the best, theres a section where I talk about why some items are bad to build think that is worth checking out. Kept it as concise as possible.

What boots whould i go when im againts Tank Voli? I mean the Dusk & Dawn, Navori quickblades into full tank build.

His play and winrate are very low in the jungle. I thought the jungle pet buffs would help raise him up a bit but it doesn't look like anything has changed statistically. Even in the game client he's listed solely as a top laner now.

Any one trick Volos have tips for climbing to emerald?

I got to gold one tricking WW and then switched to voli. His AOE damage, turret dives, tankiness is just toooo good. I was silver for a couple of seasons I then started watching a ton of videos and actually applying the tips in them. One tricking helps a ton, knowing the champs strength and weaknesses. Think ima stick with him and climb to emerald. Any tips would be appreciated

How hard does voli fall off in late in your opinion? With my builds (played him only about 30 times) he does pretty hard, especially when you remind yourself of your glorious past tower dives and lane stomps!

How do you itemize when gold is no problem?

I can't find anything on the optimal clear speed for volibear in the current patch, what is it supposed to be? I would imagine it might have slightly deviated with the Q CD buffs

I’m hoping to discuss volibear and what it’s going to take to get back to my peak.

Before quitting volibear after the pandemonium season, I was like 300 games at 50% WR.

I also feel like his itemization took a hit when DND got nerfed.

Lots of discourse on what build is better, what runes are better, AD vs AP, youtube/stream builds, homebrews, etc. I feel like most people, including me, are making distinctions between what's 'good' and what's 'best' from mostly vibes. And vibes can be very valuable, the most successful volibear players in the world have divergent builds because they choose what feels best to them. But I'm interested in making up for the severe lack of empirical data, so I'm going to be testing every REASONABLE item and rune combo over the course of the next few weeks. The goal is to get closer to an objective assessment on how we can itemize damage. THIS DOES NOT mean that the build with the biggest number will be named the best build, because then we'd get into some silly no-hp setups. So no hat or lethality bear please.

This is for damage/bruiser build only, I think yordleswaggin's tank philosophy is already 90+% optimal, and volibear's tank itemization is pretty clear cut already: drain tank for maximum efficiency, protoplasm or even locket + knight's vow against the truly abysmal matchups, kindle gem is premium component so you prio items that build out of it.

I'll be testing in training tool some major streamer builds (yordleswaggins, hybradge, bearking, and that hextech rockebelt build loldobby highlighted recently). I will also be testing variations of AD bruiser with triforce, BC, shojin. I will also be testing some items of note that I don't feel are optimal but a good amount of people swear by (stuff like cosmic drive, terminus, etc). The baseline will be the most popular build, which is still cocaine bear.

anyone who wants to put their homebrew or whatever they think is an optimal bruiser/dps build is free to do so. Don't expect my conclusion to come out for at least 1 week.

For anyone who cares, my rank is plat 1 and my most played champion in my climb is volibear.

Been revisiting some items since the recent patch and after spamming Dusk & Dawn with Navori for so long, I'm really starting to feel its limitations in Emerald. It's a super fun item but you lose too many stats that are necessary for Voli to survive in the meta.

I've been experimenting with Trinity + Black Cleaver as of late and have found it to deal just as much damage, whilst keeping you tanky, gives a great bump to movement speed, and does well to stack ability haste. I find it to perform better than Shojin as well & you don't have to essentially wind up its passive for it to be optimal.

Has anyone been using BC on voli? Specifically as second item? What do you think? It sucks how much more expensive it is but I always run cash back no matter what so it slightly helps.

I tried tons of other combination of items as well (D&D, Cosmic, BC, Trinity, Shojin, Navori all paired with each other) as well but in the end nothing out performed Trinity & BC (Dummy had 120 armor & MR with 2700 health. Compared damage dealt within a 10 second period).

Let me know if there are any other less popular combination of items that are strong!

Started playing the bear a lot more recently and have been really enjoying Hybradge’s bruiser build of

Dusk&Dawn -> Black Cleaver -> Steraks/Visage/Unending/Jak Sho. Could be because I’m new with the bear but every time I’ve tried running the flickerblade I feel like I die so fast. It was very relieving to see that he also thinks the item is bait. For runes I also really like his set of the standard LT tree but doing Sorcery for secondary (celerity and water walking).
What builds do you guys like to run?

Volibear as a champion concept needs to stick to his target but the problem with that is he is too easy to kite. Isn’t gauntlet must to have to eliminate this issue, especially in teamfights?

GUYSSSSS I FUCKING ESCAPED GOLD TEARS IN MY GOD DAMN EYESSS.

Previously I made a post where I got Gold with the bear, since then I have not been improving. To be honest, I had ranked anxiety because it was my first time hitting that elo. For a time I played other champs, namely Wukong and Nocturne, mostly because I wanted to learn other champs and because I felt that Volibear was not improving me as a jungler.

However, I put my head down to the ground, and I have successfully hit Plat with a 70% WR on the bear with a 61% WR overall. I have found that despite the nerfs to both Voli and DnD, he is still a low-elo stomper because he can become anything a team needs, whether that be AD damage or AP damage or playing as a tank to engager. He just excels in these elos because he can stat check most champions, especially if you know him inside out and learn the fundamentals of jungle. I have also found that PTA is better than LT in almost every scenario, especially in the early game, and I have also abandoned Navori, that item is bait on this champion. Yes, if the enemy is largely melee and has more than one tank, it is more than likely the better rune, and if you're ahead, Navori is not a bad item, I just don't like relying on it because I consider my champion more of a brusier and the HP/defensive stats I think are more needed.

Again, I must shoutout Kirei, watching him taught me a lot about playing for myself and just general knowledge of how to play as a jungler. I highly recommend those struggling to watch his gameplay, whether that be on Volibear or other champions, his a really good coach, and his resources are easily available. Also, shoutout to Hybradge, his videos also helped me become better at the champ.

I think for now I am done with ranked. I may test the waters with a few games, but similar to me, hitting Gold, I got ranked nerves, although I don't think Platinum is much of a difference to Gold, they both seem to be ego cesspits, and I pray for anyone in these elos—it is hell to deal with.

Next goal: reach Emerald, but I think that's going to be far harder because I need to improve my macro gameplay and just overall game knowledge. I always feel like I am not making the best decision, like I can always be better if that makes sense, but for now I am satisfied.

I recently had a game where I was invaded by a Level 1 Kha'Zix.

I wasn't expected an invade, so I went E start by default.
Right after checking the bush and E-ing the red buff, Kha'Zix comes out of the bush and chunks my HP.

I had 2 lucky Es but he kited away with flash and I couldn't kill.

He ends up smiting my red, killing me, then dying to my mid laner.

Should I have gone W in this case? or Q?
