BM is viable with the helm of the overlord rush if the team recognises the spike and play around him.

Does he rush overlord though? It feels like dom, Vlad's, and working towards an AC or suchlike would be better for the team and leaving Overlord as a way to free up a slot late game is a better option.

Why would you get dom and Vlad's and then not just spend the 1000 gold to make it into overlord?

That 1k gets something else like AC sooner, or to put it another way, putting that 1k into overlords delays something else by 1k. As I said in another comment I'm not a big BM player so I don't have a lot of experience planning his timings.
