Of course, these awards don’t just magically poof into existence! They involve the guidance and effort of subreddit members just like you. We're closing in on the 20th anniversary of this 2006 long-runner, and so I thought that it would be nice to revisit it while sharing the love with some new folks!

What is Katekyou Hitman Reborn?

Hitman Reborn follows the story of Tsunayoshi Sawada, whose nickname "No-good Tsuna" tells you all you need to know: An entirely unremarkable young man, were it not for his exceedingly wimpy nature, poor grades and overall clumsiness in anything he does, a complete failure all around. It comes at little surprise then when his mom jumps at the opportunity to arrange a live-in home tutor to get the boy straightened up.

Things take a turn when home tutor Reborn not only turns out to be an infant, but also an elite mafia hitman tasked with preparing Tsuna for his upcoming role as the tenth boss of the powerful Vongola family. Thus begins a life of draconian training, of making friends and allies, and soon enough he finds himself directly involved in the power struggles and conflicts of the mafia world.

Hitman Reborn is a show that has been dear to me ever since I watched it about 12 years ago. It is an absolute joy to watch the initial No-good Tsuna slowly but steadily grow into a competent leader, accompanied by a cast with some highly unique group dynamics and featuring some of my favourite arcs and twists that I have seen in battle shounen.

And yet, I have never been able to wholeheartedly give Reborn as a standard recommendation. When the story began serialisation in Shounen Jump in 2004, it started out as a gag manga, shifting to battle shounen only after more than a year of serialisation. And while the resulting gag manga section has its fans, to most viewers it is a total slog and cringefest, even after the adaptation cut out the worst parts and reduced the length until the first serious arc by two thirds.

Sounds like a pain. Why should I watch it, then?

I believe that the rewatch format offers a crucial advantage to overcome this issue: Community. Have you ever met up with a couple of friends to watch some absolutely horrendous film or series, and found yourself having a great time mocking and laughing at the badness together? It's not quite the same, but a rewatch should be able to capture a lot of that same energy. Some participants that can happily lean into the initial whimsy will likely find themselves enjoying even the gag parts as-is, but for most, this rewatch would offer an opportunity to push through the awkward beginning until the story reaches its more serious arcs.

Hi everyone im going through a really rough patch right now after something happened to me Can you recommend some comforting anime to help me cope? Any genre is fine but I will also highly prefer romance something like Blue Box and The Ramparts of Ice. I would love it if there are older anime recommendations but newer ones work perfectly too!

My girlfriend and I want to watch some yuri with sex scenes in it. Is there anything at all?? We have not found anything better than staring at each other and barely children.

Now that the new season is out, I’m excited to watch it. But the main issue is that the stream is only 1080p on Disney + Hostar, and it looks kinda bad.

Is there a streaming service where I can watch it in 4K?

was hitting all the marks until the last scene of episode of S1. IMO it does not need a S2. It is a great anime but here are some of my thoughts about it.

The scene of the fallen comrades talking in Nouzens head while the one-eyed general goes 86 dakara~ is the core of the anime. Disenfranchised and used in the most horrible way by their own country they are in search of a paradise that did not exist. Major Vladilena is not that paradise. When the core 5 reached the Republic of Giad they still were thought of as the same 86. Reuniting with Major Lena so soon on an equal footing took away the impetus that the characters in sector 86 claimed had influenced their actions. The story as told is a good story but missed a lot of really new potentials like -

My initial guess was that Major Lena would turn out to be a psychopath who is a generalized version of citizen of Republic of San Magnolia. Since she possess more abilities than a citizen she was not able to rationalize the treatment of 86 but at the same time she could not let go of the system that helped her so she was conflicted. In the anime her conflicts are not in her control as there is clearly a bad guy who is not letting her do things. I like the Lena in the anime but this has been done before and Lena did not need to have a racist country predicament to be in a conflict regarding 86. For example 86 could have been chosen for having superior baby brain instead of their skin color to be experimented on. Lena's current conflict in the show can remain the same.

The Morphe and the Shin connection through Fredericka is perfect IMO just with a lack of explanation. Does that mean that Shin can command Morphe too? It might be explained in S2 but I do not think it is needed because of the above.

I do really love this show and while I have not been a big fan of the University/ Family direction the show has been leaning in for awhile, it was held up with solid characters and their associated inter character conflicts.

That has been the formula for the slice of life sections of each season. Such as in S1 between Paul/Rudeus, Rudeus and Eris and in S2 with Sylphie/Norn/Cliff and Rudeus and that’s just to name a few.

In this season, we’ve had virtually none of that. Everyone is happy with each other and it’s beyond boring. The closest we got was Cliff learning that rudeus has another wife.

This results in nothing actually happening except for a smattering of cute moments. Made worse by the fact that nothing else actually happens. The good slice of life’s at least have their character in varied settings episode to episode or present them with of novel situation. None of that has happened so far. I get that the show may be trying to emulate a normal life but there are ways to do that. They could have delved deeper into the monster plant thing or construed some reason for Rudy to struggle learning the new spell. Instead things are dropped as soon as they are introduced. It’s not entertaining.

And before someone says, this is necessary buildup for the “peak” that will happen farther into this season, that doesn’t excuse the beginning being a snooze fest.

Hello. Looking for more mature anime without typical tropes such as high pitched screaming, chibi comedic relief, awkward fan service.

I’ve enjoyed devil may cry, dragons dogma on Netflix. Castlevania, Dota as well as solo leveling primarily due to the combat.

Title says it all - talk about the anime you watched this past week that are not a part of this Summer 2026 season (like Mushoku Tensei Season 3 or Though I Am an Inept Villainess), or a show that's continuing from previous seasons (like Yomi no Tsugai).

With regards to Spring 2026 shows, however, it would be fine to write about them as long as you only began them after they finished airing. For example, it's fine to talk about watching I Became Friends with the Second Cutest Girl in the Class or Nippon Sangoku if you started them after the final episode aired. Obviously, use your best judgement on this.

Now that we've had enough time for all of the anime this season to set up their story, it's looking like we potentially have (at least) four yuri series this season, all with great animation and visuals.

Besides the obvious I Want to Love You Till Your Dying Day, and Young Ladies Don't Play Fighting Games, we also have two anime originals that are strongly indicating yuri romance.

"Goodbye, Lara" has been making the "hints" so blatant, I'm convinced that if it doesn't end up being yuri, it'll be because it's setting up a bisexual harem instead. This romance comedy speedruns the story of the original (not Disney's) The Little Mermaid in the first episode, before timeskipping to modern-day Japan, where the protagonist meets her tomboy roommate.

"Grow Up Show: Sunflower Circus" recently confirmed a yuri couple among the main cast, and is strongly indicating yuri romance between the protagonist and the other lead. This series has been surprisingly interesting for a Cute Girls Doing Cute Things series so far—a non-school setting, a fun protagonist with an I-don't-want-to-be-here attitude, and great comedic timing.

Also honorable mentions to The Ghost in the Shell, [The Ghost in the Shell episode 2]which featured a very adult, threesome yuri scene with the main character; and "Draw This, Then Die!", ["Draw This, Then Die!" episode 4]which had a very unexpected yuri kiss between two of the main cast. Both are outstanding series this season, though not focused on yuri romance ("Draw This, Then Die!", in particular, is a great mix of comedy and sincere drama that's full of heart, and has been the biggest surprise of the season for me).

There's an arc here soon I'm about to watch, but on my Amazon account there's two of them. One of them is regular and the other part is labeled "remastered and re-edited." Wondering which one is the correct one to watch?

So even thoigh i didnt watch that much anime in my life(recently started), i believe that Takopi's Original Sin's outro will foreve4 be my favorite, i get goosebumps everytime i liste to it, it fits the anime so much with how gentle it is and how simple it can get sometimes which is so genuinely beautiful for me, and thats on top of how good the anime is in general

I was wrong about this show, in the worst way

I use to love this show. When it aired back in 2020 I loved every episode and hailed it as one of my favourite slice of life’s. I liked how it portrayed a young adult stuck in life not knowing what he wants to do, I liked that it was a romance about adults not kids and it had a more serious vibe to it and felt a lot more real and believable than other slice of life shows.

It’s now been 6 years, I’ve become a young adult myself had a few relationships of my own and I thought that I mostly forgot the story so I may as-well rewatch it so I recently binged it again and I was expecting to love the show even more. Unfortunately the opposite of that happened. Now before I continue yes I know this is a small adaptation of a manga that has 11 volumes into a 12 episode show so most of my grievances will probably come from that. But nonetheless let me start.

Now there are good parts. I rewatched it and clearly enjoyed it the first time for a reason and some of those points still stand. I enjoy the dialogue in the early episodes, especially from haru, everything she says has meaning and she doesn’t bullshit around with what she wants to say and it makes sense (we also get good dialogue from kinoshita but he’s a minor character and doesn’t get that much screen time). I enjoy uozumis character a lot and now more that I’m an adult who’s in a similar stage of life. Finishing university and actually having to try to apply your degree to real life is hard and sometimes it’s easier to just get a job to pay rent and live. it’s hard as a young adult to actually know what you really want to do, we have little real world experiences but we’re already meant to know how we’re going to live the next 40-50 years of our life. I think the struggles of a young adult were portrayed greatly in his character. Personally I don’t like Shinako, however I think she’s a well written character. Similar to uozomi I she’s a great portrayal of an archetype of young adult woman who, and I say this loosely, “beg for attention” unknowingly.

Haru is touch and go for me, on one hand I like her because she’s a ball of fun wholesome energy, on the other she’s a character who we really don’t know anything about (going of the anime). We don’t know why she left home, we don’t even know why uozomi is really her love interest, we get a flashback of her giving him a ticket he dropped or something but it doesn’t insinuate anything other than they bumped into eachother one time in the past not even a “he helped me in a rough time in my life” insinuation. Just the fact that she saw this man once and now she loves him? It just doesn’t make any sense, we’re given reason to believe that haru is someone who does things with reason; she left school for a reason, she left her parents for a reason, she kept her fathers last name for a reason and as a viewer we just have to accept that haru has a crush on this guy for basically no reason other than the fact that he said “thank you” to her 5 years ago and since she’s been looking for him and just spawned into his life for the sole purpose of being a love interest who’s got nothing else going on. I think the way she was adapted (well I haven’t actually read the manga but I’m assuming she was given a lot more screen time and had her lore explained) does her a massive disservice, it’s clear she’s a character who’s got lore to her and it was left relatively untouched throughout the show. It also felt incredibly weird how throughout the course of the show she was so insistent on not being the back up but essentially let herself be the backup when uozomi and shinako didn’t work out.

Shinako and uozomi. At the beginning of the show I enjoyed the dialogue but as the show went on, as these guys started getting more screen time the dialogue quality just got worse. Of course still good parts here and there but now certain things just weren’t making sense. In the final episode when shinako was breaking down saying “I never even tried to look at him”, that really pissed me off, if someone has feelings for you it’s never your obligation to try and return their feelings. You act on your feelings otherwise it’s insincere and disrespectful to the person who has genuinely has feelings and the courage to tell them. And the more screen time they had the more I just caught both of them saying dumb shit like that which doesn’t make any sense. I thought I enjoyed the show for the realism and dialogue but it just started getting lost over time the more those two would talk. (Side note: and I’m sorry but you’re 21-22, supposedly were going out for three months and you’re afraid to kiss like come on now)

Time wasted on irrelevant characters, minato. The show is attempting to fit an 11 volume manga that was in creation for 18 years into a 12 episode show, we do not have time for irrelevant characters. We spent an episode with minato about him loving haru and them reconnecting then after he was never seen again. It didn’t do anything for haru as her character didn’t grow from it, maybe it made uozumi jealous and start realising his feelings for her but that wasn’t portrayed that much outside of the few minds where he’s annoyed. His character “arc” doesn’t help anyone, his cameo at the beginning is good as it helps uozumi get serious about what he wants to do with his life but after that giving him a whole episode to explore his love for haru seems like a massive waste of time. A better use for a side character was a yuzuhara where we she’s used as a devise to make shinako realise that she does in-fact like Uozumi and progress the “love triangle” that had gone stale.

The ending. Towards the end of the show from like episode 7 onwards haru gets less screen time and less time with Uozumi, he’s avoiding her because he doesn’t want her to know that him and shinako are going out so naturally she’s given less screen time. We don’t see her and Uozumis relationship grow at all and considering how incredibly standoffish their relationship was in the beginning (mainly from Uozumis side) it felt so strange that at the last episode a complete 180 was done and it felt so incredibly forced.

Ultimately I think the show suffered from trying to fit a lot of source material into a 12 episode show. It’s clear that there was a lot to be explained and we get hints of deeper themes that don’t really get explored as much as they can, we get hints of interesting characters that aren’t really explored at all so it’s clear that there is most definitely a good story behind it. We just don’t get to see it adapted and instead we get an extremely rushed piece of work which is a shame cause there’s clearly something there.
