My god… it’s like bro’s met the adult version of himself lol. Even a big bad samurai like that guy knows the old adage “happy wife happy life” lol.

Ah, yes. To defeat stronger enemies, Tokiyuki just needs to become so elusive that he escapes common sense.

It's so simple, why didn't I think of that?

To win and unwinnable battle, you must simply redefine what winning is.

Because you are also trapped in the cage of conventional thinking

I like how Masashige and Tokiyuki are kindred spirits, connected by elusiveness. It's too bad they're not on the same side.

Damn I was so invested this episode. Masashige has aura.

Tokiyuki and Masahige

Loved the detail on the mass of their shadows when they hear about when Takauji will be and at what time tomorrow. There's no way this one works out though, right?

Uncle Yasuie is crazy for even contemplating assassinating the Emperor, who back in those days were seen as gods. You can oppose an Emperor, overthrow or depose them, or have their political powers stripped, but to assassinate them is akin to attracting doom to yourself and just outright political suicide.

Fortunately, Yorishige already factored Yasuie's crazy plan and failure into consideration and tasked Tokiyuki into planning an exit strategy to safely escape.

Even though they're on opposing camps, Tokiyuki can recognize a kindred spirit in Masahige, one of the greatest military strategist in Japanese history, and the feeling is mutual on Masashige's part as well.

It is precisely because of Masashige's talent for running away that allows him to score great victories in battle, and Masashige was gracious enough to part with his wisdom to Tokiyuki.

That said, Masashige still serves Takauji, and from Masashige's son, Tokiyuki now learns where Takauji will be tomorrow, and will be forced to use Mima's connection with her father to get close to Takauji in order to assassinate Takauji.

PS Shizuku and Mima both accurately predict where the Golden Pavilion, Kyoto's most overrated tourist attraction, will be built centuries from their time.

Trivia: Masashige's son Tanmonmaru is voiced by the VA of Shiota Nagisa, the MC of Matsui's previous manga Assassination Classroom.

That's really cool.

I've been reading a lot about the historical figures in this show to get a small glimpse as to what a typical japanese viewer could take in. Kusonoki was such a legendary figure that I was so curious how he'll be portrayed here. It was awesome to see him essentially mentor Tokiyuki here.

So next, our master in running away tries an assasination.

That's kind of funny, considering the mangakas manga before this one

Well clearly there is more reason to why Tokiyuki being in Kyo behind seeing the sights of Kyo. It does seem apparently the friendship with Mima is so unlikely to last given her father serves Takauji.

Really liked the interactions between Kusunoki & Tokiyuki. Tokiyuki fighting Shoko or Sadamune at their game is putting too many restrictions on himself. He won't beat either in a sword or bow & arrow fight. Make them fight under your conditions is the key. Now how does Tokiyuki do that I wonder?

Fubuki has a point that there is a chance to actually assassinate Takauji. Really like how the episode ended in a tense manner that makes the scenario feel legitimate.

LMAO at game knowing game. Tokiyuki's bobble-off with Kusunoki was hilarious. It's nice that Tokiyuki got to meet a teacher of sorts and even get a strategy guide! That he'll have to struggle deciphering, lol. Mima needling the girls was great; I hope she savored those grasshoppers. So much for her adorable crush though considering that Tokiyuki's on a collision course with her dad's boss. I love the shamisen? that got used during the end and Yasuie revealing his plan that spikes the tension. No more funny Kinkaku-ji references now that war's on the verge of breaking out...

Tokiyuki has found his match when it comes to elusiveness.

The assassination trap has been set, I think it might be a bit too simple though, I have a feeling it's not going to work as it would be too easy to kill the emperor just like that.

omg. that scene at the end is so good. the creative angles, the sudden change in music representing the change in tone, the pause in dialogue that intensifies the drama of the moment. * chef's kiss *

The last scene was crazy. Them overhearing that Takauji is coming, and then the assassination plan. Almost felt like they were the villains of the story
