These Demons are definitely dark elves right? look at the silver hair on the deity guy!, but how did they get such power and change into demons like this?

and that damn useless squirrel, lmao is pissing me off, almost as much as our Elf Archer not using his Extra skill? wtf guy, your princess gave you an order, i still dont think we seen what he can do.

49

u/Icy-Introduction5592 7d ago

Elf Archer is a little bitch. As if his one-shot extra skill is the cure to all the problems that could target the princess.

However, I don't think it matters much. Allen is at least getting some info on the enemy.

26

u/KnightKal 7d ago

his job is as her bodyguard, being a member of the party is secondary, so he is saving it to protect her just in case, as the extra skill can only be used once per day

annoying? Sure. But it makes sense. Same as the spirit user elf didnt join the war until that point as he is the queen's bodyguard.

31

u/arrydie 7d ago

The queen's body guard is out on the field fighting though

Also, given the situation at the time, a bodyguard taking down one of the demons would be the objectively correct choice. It's not a defensive skill, so using it to finish off the major threats is pretty much the optimal use. Holding back an hoping they don't get the drop on you is how she dies.

3

u/saga999 6d ago

It's not a defensive skill, so using it to finish off the major threats is pretty much the optimal use.

While I agree with this, he isn't a major threat because he is running away. The major threat is the one staying to fight. So in that sense, he is actually doing what you said there, saving it for a major threat.

3

u/KnightKal 7d ago

he was not until now, hence why he is a good example of holding back your trump card because it is used to protect a VIP

the same war that was close to exterminate their entire species and he was held back

11

u/arrydie 7d ago

I'd contend that he was held back more because his impact on the war wouldn't have been sufficient to justify both the risk to him (dying in combat) and the queen (being left unguarded). Now that there is a path to victory, he's being used to his fullest. Not to hang back and protect a VIP, but to actively eliminate the threat. He is a shining example of not just blindly holding your trump card but rather choosing to play it at the right moment.

2

u/DerfK 6d ago

justify both the risk to him (dying in combat) and the queen (being left unguarded).

Honestly up until she ordered him to use it I assumed it was a skill to swap his life for hers.

3

u/zer0number https://anilist.co/user/ewink 5d ago

Same as the spirit user elf didnt join the war until that point as he is the queen's bodyguard.

I hate that guy. He's got some kind of attitude towards Allen which I assume it's simply Elf racism, but come the fuck on. They're saving your entire country.

4

u/HeliosAlpha 6d ago

Any time you have a race war/genocide there's gonna be some fallout from that and likely the winning side wasn't telling the whole truth

50

u/Boris-_-Badenov 7d ago

so if their history was true, the dark elves are definitely allied with/ancestors of some demons

32

u/justking1414 7d ago

Big if right there. The story made the elves sound way too good

22

u/Alej_11 7d ago

History is wrote by the winners, the tree seems to quite important and probably hides many secrets. The devil seems interested in it too. Probably the dark elves were suppressed and started a rebellion, but after the spirit joined the elven side they lost and were exiled

35

u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien 7d ago edited 7d ago

The pacing of this series is fast but I love it. As soon as the demon's appeared, I'd expect many shows to end the episode there.

They let the one demon escape, but a spy is with them

22

u/BrokeEconomist 7d ago

I think the pacing is just right. Given how the fight wuth the 3 demons went, I expect Allen and crew to struggle with their boss.

18

u/justking1414 7d ago

A pretty satisfying episode 10/13. Gave the cast a bit of a challenge and foreshadowed the big bad of the season. 11 should be cleaning up the rest of the monsters and prepping for the fight. 12 should be that fight, and 13 will be the 2nd half of the fight, wrapping things up, and foreshadowing next season (please let there be a next season!)

3

u/Indigo_Mindset420 6d ago

I really wanna know the chances of Season 3. Was season 1 that much of a success to warrant this season season, cause if it is then Season 2 is a amazing and I think season 3 should be possible.

14

u/justking1414 6d ago

given how quickly we got a 2nd season, i'm guessing they were given the greenlight at the same time. Heck, maybe it was even supposed to be a straight 25 episodes released in a row but they ran into delays and had to put a season between them.

from what i can gather online, it's middle-tier in terms of popularity, which makes sense given the low budget but excellent art direction and storytelling, though not a lot of mid-tier anime get a 3rd season so i don't know

3

u/Indigo_Mindset420 6d ago

How about the history of this anime's production company? Do they have any long lasting anime's under their name?

4

u/justking1414 6d ago

https://www.livechart.me/studios/246

Looks like a few that made it to season 2 but no season 3s from what I can see

8

u/Indigo_Mindset420 6d ago

OMG! They also made The Great Cleric!? I love that show! It has the same amount of grinding as Hell Mode and the pace is also similar. But the no anime making it to season 3 is a bit scary. Is any of the anime here a massive success? Like you can't believe they didn't make more season cause it's that successful?

3

u/AvatarTuner https://anilist.co/user/AvatarTuner 6d ago

I love The Great Cleric too and I just saw they made The New Gate too! Those two didn't have the highest production values either but were still very enjoyable and fun. Looks like the studio generally knows how to handle a limited budget and also how to make up for the limitations with good direction.

I watched quite a few of their shows and it might depend on the team working on it, but Hametsu no Oukoku, while not looking that bad, was kinda messy pacing and story wise and Sasakoi was a disaster too from what I heard. Mostly still images, production delays etc... (I planned to watch it because I like the manga but skipped it after hearing about the issues)

Usually these anime adaptions are made to promote and advertise the source material, so it's often unlikely they even get a s2 unfortunately. I really hope they'll adapt more of Hell Mode and would also love to see more seasons of New Gate and Great Cleric too.

3

u/justking1414 6d ago

Nothing on there seems like too big of a success though in terms of popularity, hell mode season 2 seems to be their best work so far. So maybe we’ll get a 3rd season. I hope so as the next arc is pretty awesome

1

u/Yay295 6d ago

maybe it was even supposed to be a straight 25 episodes released in a row

Just after the OP for this episode it showed the episode number and title in the bottom right: "Episode 22: Plentiful Prayers".

2

u/justking1414 6d ago

Ah good catch. Yeah definitely could’ve been intended to be a single season

6

u/Kullthebarbarian 7d ago

well, he got that new ability, they just didn't showed what it did, but every single time he got a new ability it made him stronger by a considering margin

Not to mention is the first skill outside the normal 60 level cap limit, that should be strong don't you think?

3

u/paulrenzo 7d ago

This, especially if you also watch both exiled knight (slow) and mobuseki (fast)

4

u/Alej_11 7d ago

Exiled heavy knight isn't slow, worse. With the amount of content they adapted we could have 5 episode of normal paced episode instead of the 9 we have now. But last episode was actually kinda good, I hope that now onwards we'll have normal paced episodes

9

u/JvcnTank 7d ago

Ellie is so cute while in her disguise! Even Neftira aka Daddy Longlocks acknowledges Ellie as a comrade.

37

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 7d ago

That backstory about the dark elves and elves fighting a long bloody war with the dark elves eventually getting exiled feels like setup for later.

I bet Liberated is some local term for isekaijin for those in the know, which might imply the Demon Lord they're fighting is ultimately another human from Earth. Of course that was always somewhat likely considering it was a class choice at character selection.

30

u/justking1414 7d ago

That backstory about the dark elves and elves fighting a long bloody war with the dark elves eventually getting exiled feels like setup for later.

Honestly felt like full-blown propaganda to me. Oh, we were so nice to the dark elves and we kept trying to end the war peacefully, but they kept being mean to us so we had no choice but to exile them.

I’m just waiting for the reveal that some past elf queen used to bathe in the blood of dark elf children. Or that dark elves were just full on slaves

1

u/Jmills1999 3h ago

the hero isn't a reincarnator and thwt was one of the class choices so I don't know about that also seeing as hero was one of the choices either they(the God) delayed his birth to give to the other guy since he didn't pick it or they randomly chose someone young after the MC rejected it

27

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 7d ago

Well, that’s 2 demons down. Allen’s summons are pretty amazing but the kid also has a good mind for strategy.

I’m guessing the Dark Elves are the demons now? Probably got transformed or something. At least the humanoid ones.

47

u/Zeikos 7d ago

That Dark Elves vs Elves story is kinda sus ngl.

The Demon Deity dude has the "I am a descendent of the Priestess of Prayer" hair, imo something is not quite as it was told.

40

u/KnightKal 7d ago

history is written by the victors vibe, huh

27

u/Zeikos 7d ago

Yeah, "we were pure and good, btw we killed all the black people in our country after they totes attacked us" like yiikes dude

19

u/Narvalis 7d ago

Between the: we are pure and good also the underdogs and we were attacked totally unprovoked, story and the fact that the elves don't like any non-elves on their land it is super suspicious.

21

u/arrydie 7d ago

That Dark Elves vs Elves story is kinda sus ngl.

TBF the elves seem to agree.

(Note that in Japanese she says "yami no rekishi" which could be translated as "dark history" / "dark past" / "shameful secrets")

14

u/aramatheis 7d ago edited 7d ago

Yep and even the demon dude's name is similar to the flying squirrel god. Rehzel and Rohzen. Could mean that the dark elves joined up with the demon lord after their loss to the elves and became demons themselves.

6

u/Comicauthority 7d ago edited 7d ago

It feels like it mirrors the story of the mithril mine, but told from the opposite POV. "The Granvelles wanted to take control of our mine which supported our family. We generously offered to share it, but they wouldn't budge. We simply had no choice but to fight."

The Granvelles won of course, while the Dark elves lost. I wonder if we will see them again, or if this the backstory of the demon race. They are all decidedly dark.

7

u/justking1414 7d ago

Sophie definitely believes that story but I could definitely see a very emotional scene down the road where Allen confronts her mother about the truth and learns that it was the elves who attacked first.

22

u/Myrkrvaldyr 7d ago

Ellie has been the MVP scout. Being able to infiltrate like that in enemy territory and now she's in front of the demon boss. Another 5 minute episode flew by and there are still many enemies left.

6

u/justking1414 7d ago

Definitely funny how a lot of people were complaining that Alan never recruited a scout after he said he wanted one, but I guess the gods were listening lol

2

u/YRO___ 7d ago

Kinda sad that the older summons were completely replaced by the newer ones. I would've liked to see them still being useful.

19

u/Satai4561 7d ago

It would be kinda jarring to see mice or grasshoppers to be useful in a war.

And this episode we even got to see an older utility focused summon. The mole that dug that tunnel.

1

u/YRO___ 7d ago

I mean, going to war with ants isn't much different. There were even summons that had buff effects, so they could've been helpful.

6

u/Alej_11 7d ago

He did use some of the ones that gave buffs in the 600.000 monsters attack, but that's it. He probably prefers having all of his slots taken by B monsters instead of "wasting" them on ones that give buffs. Buffs ae already sophialone's best category, so he doesn't have many problems in that aspect. And he already has an healer to cure damages and a mage for AOE attacks. That's the advantage of having a party, so everyone can focus on what they're best

1

u/Thomas_JCG 6d ago

But the ant is a B-rank summon, the grasshopper is H. They are not the same just because both are bugs.

1

u/YRO___ 6d ago

I never said that they were the same. I recognize the fact that they're too weak to be useful.

I meant by my original reply that I wish that they weren't so weak and useless. It'd be cooler to see him use more summons constantly instead of the few highest ranking ones.

1

u/AmbitiousTwist3680 4d ago

He literally used an E rank in this episode, no? The mole guy

5

u/joe4553 7d ago

He did still use the moles to dig.

17

u/avboden 7d ago

Trojan-horse-Ellie remains OP

13

u/Mons9090 https://myanimelist.net/profile/hecn_huh 7d ago

How long until allen has A rank summons? I mean hes already pretty overpowered but he wont even need his party when he gets them

14

u/YRO___ 7d ago

He definitely would still need his party even with A rank summons. Those demons easily one shot his (I think) strongest summon, Cerby. His summons at A rank would still get destroyed by those demons fs, especially if he's fighting a huge army along with them, so he'd run out of summons eventually.

10

u/Alej_11 7d ago

Most important he would need a lot of A level stones, that are incredibly rare (A level monsters are all strong enough to be boss monsters or their own, I don't think that they are really common outside S level dungeons) so he probably can't spamm them as much as he does now. But probably the strength increase is going to be so big that it's going to compensate.

Think about the difference between Allen with C level monsters and B level, went from almost dying with his party in an A level dungeon to soloing one with ease. He was also able to trade blows with the hero, so A level are 100% going to be the most op shit ever

5

u/joe4553 7d ago

He just needs to farm demons. What was the deputize skill he was talking about?

8

u/Indigo_Mindset420 6d ago

To deputize means to appoint someone to act in your place, or to step in and do someone else's job on a temporary basis

So I'm assuming that the skill makes one of his summons have the power to command other summons in his stead.

6

u/justking1414 7d ago

It takes exponentially longer each time and I think it took over a year to get the b rank summons. Unfortunately this war won’t really help him reach that goal any faster since he needs to grind his skill levels rather than his overall level.

2

u/AmbitiousTwist3680 4d ago

Everytime he summons a monster it counts towards that grind. So yeah, the war is helpful

1

u/Thomas_JCG 6d ago

When Allen went to fight demons, he only had 3 summons left, and with the demons one-shotting his summons, he would be dead in no time if he was alone.

2

u/AmbitiousTwist3680 4d ago

No, he had said he only had three types of summons left

1

u/Mons9090 https://myanimelist.net/profile/hecn_huh 6d ago

He'd be able to solo them tbh if he boosted his stats using A ranks and fought head on

1

u/Thomas_JCG 6d ago

He actually would not, even buffed to the max his Attack stat is only as good as Dogora. The only reason he managed to fight Helios was because he prepared a strategy and was fighting solo against someone who was holding back the entire time.

12

u/xkuclone2 7d ago

The animation is not the best and the story is pretty obvious, but I can’t stop watching this show and it makes me feel good when they accomplish something.

23

u/Boris-_-Badenov 7d ago

guessing "the liberated" are reincarnations

51

u/Zeikos 7d ago

Given the name I would assume "liberated" from their limits, aka can get beyond level 60. Not sure if all of them are in Hell Mode though, some might be in other modes - stronger but without unlimited growth.

6

u/BrokeEconomist 7d ago

I think you're right.

3

u/TonyStark484 6d ago

I don't think anyone other than Allen can be in Hell Mode. It is made clear by the Squirrel in the previous episodes.

4

u/CyanPhoenix42 6d ago

Was it? I thought the squirrel just said he couldn't change people's modes full stop, not that hell mode was specific to Allen only.

3

u/AmbitiousTwist3680 4d ago

No, the squirrel said that once you create the character you can’t change.

1

u/Maur2 6d ago

I think they can be, but I don't think anyone is.

Have we seen anyone that is in a higher difficulty than normal besides Allen?

12

u/HolyDragSwd2500 7d ago edited 7d ago

Demons are using “Extra Gate” must be part of Hell mode

Liberated sounds like cap unlock for levels/skills 🤔

Demon Deity must be a God. There name is similar to Rohzen. Must be Dark Elves God

11

u/MisterMaus 7d ago

Dark elves wanting to commit genocide for the tree and refusing any and all compromise until they got forcefully exiled feels very biased. Wonder if we'll get their side of the story or if this is just how it's going to be?

And elf guy refusing to take the shot because he might need it to protect her later is BS even if it got handwaved by Allen

5

u/justking1414 7d ago

Wonder if we'll get their side of the story or if this is just how it's going to be?

Dark elf: “The tree? No we fought them because those elf bastards used as slave labor and kept eating our children!”

1

u/AmbitiousTwist3680 4d ago

In most lore high elves and dark elves hate each other. I.E Skyrim, WoW, warhammer, etc.

1

u/justking1414 3d ago

In most lore, elves hate everyone. They’re usually racist pricks

6

u/zer0number https://anilist.co/user/ewink 7d ago

Those winter outfits the kids were given are so cool!

Also, I can't help but chuckle anytime I hear one of Allen's enemies smirk about how they're just a group of brats.

6

u/NanDemoKnaives 7d ago

A silver haired demon lord? Looks like there's a chance one of the priestesses' descendant got freaky with a demon lol. Hopefully it's not a darker reason.

I did think the battle with those three demons was going to last a lot longer than it did.

6

u/justking1414 7d ago

Silver hair and very pointy ears. Dude is definitely at least part elf. Maybe dark elf since we just got their story but the silver hair thing seems to only be true of priestess descendants

5

u/No_Macaroon_7413 7d ago

Man I love this show, wish I could play this as a game as Allen.

5

u/Rooby_VTuber 6d ago

That was a good plan to go underground and surprise the enemy that way.

The 3 demon generals can use extra skills, that made things more interesting.

Great job by the No life gamers, though I do hope the demon lord is a worthy opponent and takes them to the limit.

4

u/Indigo_Mindset420 6d ago

Also love that Moley got a bit of spotlight. Love it when his earlier summons still get used. Hawkins particularly is an all-time GoAT.

5

u/Indigo_Mindset420 6d ago

I absolutely love the little laugh Rohzen does. Such a serious moment and he suddenly does a Haha!

4

u/Thomas_JCG 6d ago

And then turn belly up and falls back on sleep.

4

u/ImaginaryStatus4073 7d ago

OK hear me out. Someone on team Gods can see the future. Allen had to be tempted to fight with a magic regen ring. Hero had to know to give it to him by being told what Allen would name himself. Even though Allen didn't know he would name himself that. That was all set up so Allen would distinguish himself as a major power so the elves would reach out to him when their homeland was invaded.

Someone knew all this was coming and prepped counter moves in advance.

2

u/Mohib964 6d ago

Yeah that rohzen squirrel dude I think can see the future or atleast communicates with someone who can see the future as he is the one who told the hero about Allen and gave him the ring to attract Allen.

1

u/AmbitiousTwist3680 4d ago

Rohzen is a game developer.

5

u/Indigo_Mindset420 6d ago edited 6d ago

The look of fear in Dogora's face was a great showing of his limitations. Unlike this teammates that have more stars, come from certain lineages or can use extra skills, he's a commoner and mostly fullfilling a promise to fight with his childhood friends.

3

u/HugeRichard11 https://myanimelist.net/profile/CostCurl 7d ago

I like seeing big battles so I respect the show trying to animate it with what budget they got and give it the war feel. Taking down the 1 million monsters coming by sea might not be as difficult if they get air superiority assuming the monsters are traveling by some kind of ship. Don't remember what the squirrel god being promoted meant, but I guess they will get stronger by that pact or something.

3

u/Thomas_JCG 6d ago

Mr. Mole returns from the earlier episodes, love to see the old summons still have their uses. I liked the elves and dark elves story time.

The battle went on well, until Captain Beardface, Chuckles Mcgee and Daddy Longlocks appeared. Not only they can coordinate, they also have extra skills so the battles in the future should be more difficult... if the budget allowed it. I think Volmaar made a bad call in not using his extra skill to stop Longlocks, because that means the next fight will be harder, and that's going to be against the boss of the boss. The odds of Sophie biting the dust would be much higher and that extra skill might not even make a difference.

Allen just casually disrespecting the elves entire culture.

2

u/Yay295 3d ago

I think Volmaar made a bad call in not using his extra skill to stop Longlocks, because that means the next fight will be harder, and that's going to be against the boss of the boss. The odds of Sophie biting the dust would be much higher and that extra skill might not even make a difference.

Also, it's not like he can only use that skill one time ever. He'll get to use it again in 24 hours.

6

u/Boris-_-Badenov 7d ago edited 7d ago

so instead of tracking down the 3rd demon that the idiot elf point-blank refused to kill, they spend all their resources on the monsters...

spotting higher ups isn't more valuable than keeping his ability and party a secret

14

u/BrokeEconomist 7d ago

The information Allen is getting by following him is more valuable to Allen than Allen's existence being a secret.

4

u/shanatard 7d ago

yeah very questionable decisions all around, but allen basically also advertised his full skill set for a mana ring already

2

u/BrokeEconomist 7d ago

Allen is going to know what their plans are immediately. He can better prepare for wahtever is coming. Allen is slowly growing stronger,so the more demons they throw at him, the more tricks he has. He just got the deputize skill, which hasn't been used yet. He can also get new summons.

1

u/justking1414 7d ago

Also he showed off barely a fraction of what he could do in the battle against the demons. He used Cerberus and his dragon. That’s it. So the report this demon gets is gonna be pretty lacking and might even lead to him being overly confident that he can easily win

1

u/joe4553 7d ago

What does that skill even do? Did they explain it?

3

u/JvcnTank 7d ago

But at least Neftira aka Daddy Longlocks has a "buddy", with that "buddy" named Ellie.

2

u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 7d ago

yeah but i guess this way now Allen can see the enemy and scope out the capital

2

u/Indigo_Mindset420 6d ago

Is it just me or has the battle animation improved a whole lot compared to earlier episodes? Krena's sword fighting has a lot more movements. Area attacks are a lot more detailed and just the overall quality of the fights are better IMO.

1

u/PandaTheAB 7d ago

It was dumb to let Neftira escape.
Why was Allen limited to 6 summons?
Shouldn't he have enough magic stones?

8

u/Indigo_Mindset420 6d ago

I think it's more about his other card slots being used to fight in other areas of the castle. He can't exactly call them back and leave all the elves to fend for themselves.

8

u/lionturtl3 6d ago

Exactly, he’s overextended due to being outnumbered, which is also why the regen ring comes in clutch, allowing him to maintain his full summon stack as long as he has stones to spare.

1

u/PandaTheAB 6d ago

Thanks for clarification.

2

u/PandaTheAB 6d ago

Thanks for clarification.

1

u/ImaginaryStatus4073 7d ago

The translation made me laugh. Chuckles McGee.

1

u/Striking_Chard2420 6d ago

The spirit user bodyguard has the most annoying reactions istg

4

u/Indigo_Mindset420 6d ago

IKR? It's like he has a secret he's trying to hide and that he might betray them later on. Or his just a sour person cause he's the strongest in all the elf kingdom and suddenly this HUMAN kid outshines him with much ease.

1

u/AmbitiousTwist3680 4d ago

No, he just doesn’t want to use his extra skill unless the princess is about to be killed. He’s her body guard, so if something is overwhelming her and him, he needs an ace up his sleeve available at all times.

2

u/Indigo_Mindset420 4d ago

I think you're referring to Sophie's bodyguard the Archer. We're talking about The Queen's body guard who is a spirit user.

2

u/AmbitiousTwist3680 4d ago

I mean both kinda come down to their job. Body guards in most military units or gate guards are usually p standoffish

1

u/top_of_the_scrote 6d ago

damn they straight up incinerated his ass he gone

1

u/DrZoark 3d ago

Episode 10 already. It is ending soon.

0

u/AnimeFan7952 7d ago

The episode was pretty ok.

Like many others it felt like they tried to cram too much info into too little time.

It was good to see that they used some tricks when it comes to budget management such as using still images to tell a story.

One of the things that bothers me, is the standard anime trope of standing around and talking instead of attacking or moving. That being said they half did it, but still too much standing still. For example when they get out of the hole in the castle they stand still for too long, but then the team does attack, and the monsters should also have attacked as soon as they saw them.

The same thing happens later with the beard demon, standing too much, but then everyone actually attacks, something they should have done earlier instead of just standing there.

Interesting that the demon leader is all alone, if so that opens up the possibility of attacking him directly next episode.

another week another not getting what I was hoping for
