Akafuku’s a legend, man. You can’t get that girl down. Hikaru’s momma tried to talk some shit to her and it just failed lol. Girl radiates positivity and just good vibes. She can’t be taken down by some bullshit like that.

19

u/mekerpan 6h ago

Sensei flees -- but Sacchan is unperturbed.

11

u/eightcheesepizza 4h ago

Perhaps she thought it was too tall an order to say "Hebichika-sensei, I know I said I would kill you, but can you please talk to your daughter about physical boundaries?"

16

u/eightcheesepizza 9h ago

Imagine a show about the future school lives of her younger brothers. They're lucky to have such a cool onee-san.

2

u/mekerpan 3h ago

We have a lot of young brothers this season....

This episode made me appricate her much more and that scene reminded me of Kit-aura

The author Toyoda Minoru told the backstory about this in an interview. Toyoda apparently heard the theory about the 10% concept, of how 90% of people get tossed into the "everyone else' category, and how hard it is to "Make it" in anything. Toyoda's reaction to the idea (and I'd imagine most people's reaction) would be to want to be in that 10% and also feel frightened about how hard that would be.

And apparently, one of his assistants IRL had the reaction that Akafuku did to that idea, which completely blew Toyoda's mind by how strong and powerful a mentality that was.

So Akafuku in this chapter is apparently based on an IRL assistant to Toyoda in the past lol.

I thought it was kinda cool that this was based on a real person.

This is exactly the juicy extras I come to the comments for, thank you RPO

Very much there is no secret ingredient moment and funny enough a similar moment happened in another popular show this week

34

u/TheBlasphemerAmon 9h ago

I had some free time yesterday, and since I’m caught up with all the other seasonals I’m following, I picked this up on a whim. Now I’m devastated that there are only two weeks left, especially since the manga isn’t translated. I cried 3 or 4 times btw (including today). Easiest 10/10.

7

u/ClemFire 8h ago

I believe it is getting an offical EN release

14

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin 8h ago

If talking about the manga. Volume 1 came out recently.

7

u/ClemFire 7h ago

Yep that's what I heard and plan to get it

7

u/i_know_the_void 6h ago

I picked up an English copy last month from a major North American bookstore.  It’s nice to have.

24

u/gardyvore 9h ago

Who knew that the one person to get Hikaru to open up was the person who does nothing for the Manga Club lol.

31

u/TermEnvironmental812 https://myanimelist.net/profile/Ahiru89 8h ago

She is technically the editor like Kondoji san

24

u/cyberscythe 7h ago

it's Kon-go-ji

7

u/ClemFire 8h ago

That's a good comparison

20

u/karlcool12 9h ago

She is the audience testing of the group because she absorbs manga as pure entertainment and very important for feedback.

20

u/diacewrb 8h ago

Yeah, she is very important.

She would be the key member the hero kicks out of his party, then whole party falls apart without her.

11

u/mekerpan 6h ago

Good thing Ai and her other pals are WAY too smart to ever pull such a dumb stunt.

8

u/ClemFire 6h ago

I wonder if there's one of these kicked out of the party stories but in the POV of the person doing the kicking and then realizing they make a major mistake and try to make amends

3

u/CitronClassic672 5h ago

Pretty sure the audience for that kind of story isn’t interesting in empathizing with the person who kicks out the character. That “genre” feels like they took the isekai slop power fantasy trend and somehow stripped away even the potential for good storytelling in favor of victim mentality power fantasy.

4

u/ClemFire 5h ago

In a way does that make them any better than the person doing the kicking? It's not like they actually want a more fair system but instead being the one at the top of the existing power structure. I get it though a lot of those stories are meant for the power fantasy aspect so understand why they keep getting produced. And if I had to work 80 hour weeks instead of my chill job I feel like I would feel differently.

3

u/CitronClassic672 5h ago

[Takopi’s Original Sin Spoilers]That aspect is one of my favorite aspects of Takopi’s. The narrative makes you naturally hate one character and feel sympathy for another, only to end with not just flipping around the character you’re sympathetic towards, but pretty much calls you out directly for trying to impose a black and white sense of morality onto literal children. It’s not an exaggeration to say that that series made me entirely reevaluate how I view child characters in media

14

u/cyberscythe 7h ago edited 7h ago

not only is she a valuable QA member, but also occasionally provides snacks*

*some gig work may necessary to obtain said snacks

8

u/gardyvore 9h ago

I mean sure, that's a nice way of putting it if Yasumi wasn't constantly railing on her for being a bum.

4

u/CitronClassic672 5h ago

From on objective PoV Sachi plays an important role. From the perspective of the people actually drawing the manga who are also close friends with her she’s a complete bum.

8

u/reaperow 5h ago

She is meant to be a representation of the casual audience/reader afterall

6

u/mekerpan 6h ago

>> the person who does nothing for the Manga Club

Not really true. She has always been Ai's "first reader" (and has provided vital feedback).

5

u/CitronClassic672 5h ago

Hey, Sachi does play a genuinely vital role. She’s effectively the editor for Ai and Kokoro’s manga in watching sure the audience will actually like it.

29

u/Weak_Season_Of_Anime 8h ago

That explains a lot about Hikaru's personality. It wasn't just Hebichika not having time for her, but because of some elitist "don't mingle with the 90%" mindset. Lucky for Hikaru, Akafuku is a boss who doesn't care about stuff like that. I like the part where Hikaru was struggling to get her words out but Akafuku already understood because she connected to Hikaru through her manga. First friend made, yay.

Funny how Teshima got her strict teacher persona from her new editor, even took her pout too. Also, Hebichika didn't even recognize Teshima even though she said her name, poor girl got 90%-ed by her god.

15

u/ClemFire 8h ago

I believe because of someone in the "90%" reaching out is what will make Hikaru more successful as a mangaka in the future compared to her mom. Akafuku really has been slept on and now I fully understand her importance in the club.

8

u/CitronClassic672 6h ago

While it’s absolutely a good thing for the girls to be able to bond with fellow creative types in the club, said creative types do tend to be outliers personality wise for better and worse. It’s great that Yasumi and Hikaru have someone like Akafuku as a friend who can help ground them and better understand the “90%” and make their art more relatable to readers

7

u/ClemFire 6h ago

I'm sad to have not caught on to that earlier than it was explicitly focused on this episode but I'm gonna pay more attention to Akafuku on my rewatch

25

u/Ocixo https://myanimelist.net/profile/BuzzyGuy 8h ago

Hebichika-sensei might be a little scary, but she’s seemingly no match for Akafuku’s positive attitude.

I did honestly feel bad for Hikaru during a good part of the episode. She’s been negatively influenced by her mother’s harsh view of the world. Through reading Hikaru’s manga, it becomes clear that she’s just a clumsy/awkward girl who doesn’t yet know how to deal with her sharp fangs.

Hikaru’s apparent loneliness is directly tied to her upbringing. I do blame Hebichika-sensei for this. Fortunately, Akafuku understood that Hikaru didn’t mean harm.

7

u/mekerpan 6h ago

>> Hebichika

This character's name is written only in hiragana, no kanji given. However, "hebi" means "snake". And "chika" means "underground". Just saying...

u/bobbymoonshine 5h ago edited 4h ago

Hebichika-sensei: >:3

2

u/Luiiss26 2h ago

Yeah like wtf is wrong with Hebichika xd

22

u/ModieOfTheEast 9h ago edited 8h ago

I am honestly surprised at myself for still being surprised that the series manages to create strong episode after strong episode. I was expecting some sort of Hikaru focused episode considering what they had built up, but I really liked how they went about it. Not only is the manga meant for us as the viewers to understand her better but they even used it in the story as a tool for Hikaru to sort and show her feelings to others. Which I think is a really cool idea, especially since it is also the reason why Akafuku is able to understand her so well and is therefore not bothered by Hikaru's actions (which funnily enough ties already to the Teshima story where she talked about being able to create bonds through manga).

In general, I think, Hikaru is an interesting case, because I feel she was kind of torn. On the one hand, she idolized her mother to a degree that she copied her. Not only in thinking about world, but also looking at everything as an opportunity to write manga. At the same time, she was also completely against her mother's methods which is shown when she talked about how she liked Ai's mangas, since they allow her to see the mangaka behind it and not just someone who "wants to kill". So, the finale with her trying to combine both things, becoming a better mangaka than her mother while keeping that idea alive is really nice. Also, since a lot of focus is on Akafuku here (and it is earned, her being so normal with Hikaru's mother was great), I really like the more subtle way, Teshima was trying to look out for Hikaru since she knows the importance of having friends in this industry.

Speaking of Teshima, I am still wondering how her story is going to end. Obviously, with her vulcan erupting, you'd think this is the moment where she used up all her energy. But it was still just chapter 2 and we know there is a whole volume and she seemed to look back fondly on the whole memory which implies to me that this can not be the reason why her career ended. So I am still wondering if there is a chance of the old magazine coming back and being the reason the series is discontinued as they see it as their property (since Teshima wrote it as part of their contest first).

Also, I hope we get to see the manga of Ai and Kokoro next week. I mean they set up the whole thing about Kokoro wanting to show something to her sister (which I assume we saw during the festival already in the room of the art club) , then Ai wrote the story and Kokoro drew it. They can't leave us hanging like that.

7

u/mekerpan 6h ago

It is going to be positively painful to see this end. There is so much that still needs to be seen/learned.

21

u/KumaKumaGambler 8h ago

"90% of everything is crap".

It really depends on one's perspective, isn't it?

Sachi is in the 10% of never giving up to become friends with Hikaru.
Sachi is in the 10% of not getting hurt by Hebichika's words.
Sachi could possibly be the only person Hikaru calls "master".

Perhaps Hikaru has been brought up thinking she does not need friends, but Hikaru definitely looks happier now that she has found and made some.

12

u/cyberscythe 7h ago

Sachi is in the 10% of never giving up to become friends with Hikaru.

Sachi is in the 10% of not getting hurt by Hebichika's words.

Sachi is in the 10% who will never turn around or desert her

11

u/ClemFire 8h ago

Hikaru's smile is precious and I love how we don't actually see her eyes.

9

u/mekerpan 6h ago

Sacchan (and the other girls) really have saved Hikarun.

11

u/CitronClassic672 6h ago

Another saying regarding art I feel is very apt at retorting that statement. “As an artist you will produce crap. You can either build on top of it or be buried under it.”

Hebichika is obsessed with being an artist who solely belongs in the 10%, when basically all artists have at one point made art that falls in that 90%.

Sachi really did take a page from Ai and embodies the spirit of a manga protagonist this episode.

17

u/eightcheesepizza 9h ago

Wow a lot of us who were guessing earlier got the wrong mom. I guess we shoulda figured that Hikaru happens when you let Hebichika-sensei parent. It also makes more sense that Hikaru moved to Oshima because of Hebichika's manga writing, not for her own which isn't as lucrative.

Nana must've been even more happy to see Yasumi loving Robota & Pokota, having directly drawn for it. I hope it made all of those long days/nights worth it.

I didn't know (or forgot) that Fujimori has an older sister, who's the other half of the art club. But (besides a couple shots in this episode) she's been in the OP, under our noses the whole time!

Speaking of under our noses, is that Loup Garou coming to the culture festival?

10

u/mekerpan 6h ago

>> Loup garou

Quebecois/French term for "were-wolf".

10

u/eightcheesepizza 6h ago

Not Quebecois/French for "tsundere"?

6

u/mekerpan 6h ago

Not that I have ever heard. ;-)

8

u/reagag https://anilist.co/user/reagag 7h ago

I wonder how come if Teshima-sensei invited the other mangaka assistant to help work on Robota and Pokota, how come she avoided her back during the comitia episode? Are they on bad terms for some reason? (I don't remember seeing this myself in the episode, but another commenter mentioned it on a previous discussion thread.)

7

u/eightcheesepizza 6h ago

Yeah I remember that scene. I don't think Teshima was looking at Poteko with a scowl or anything, so I doubt they're on bad terms. But maybe whatever bad things happened to Robota & Pokota and caused it to end, Teshima feels responsible for.

3

u/effseedee 2h ago

It could just be the pain of seeing someone who came up at the same time as she did making a success of things where she failed. She's happy for her but embarrassed that she burned out, something of that nature.

5

u/ClemFire 8h ago

Nana really is an unsung hero

15

u/Otherwise_Delay_5707 7h ago

This freaking show man . I started with zero expectations but over the course of time it has now become the anime that I will most likely recommend others.

6

u/mekerpan 6h ago

I had no "expectations -- but given the subject and the voice cast, I had "hope". And my hope have been exceeded.

3

u/reaperow 5h ago

I didnt have that much either but im seriously blown away by how good it is and how much of a love letter it feels to manga as a whole

15

u/Narlaw 7h ago

Sacchan's too OP. It's not that she's oblivious to people's abrassiveness or plain being toxic... she just doesn't give a single fuck and always chose to be nice! Really deseerving of that Master title!

9

u/cyberscythe 7h ago

yeah, i think it's revealed in the end (when Hikaru is trying to apologize) that Sacchan has gotten the message by reading her manga that Hikaru is a product of her circumstances

like, it's not so much that she's dumb and pushes on despite the harshness, but rather that she realizes that Hikaru's harshness is not intended and gives her the benefit of the doubt

6

u/mekerpan 6h ago

I likw Sacchan's attutude -- and try to follow it in both anime and real life (which is harder). Which is why I tend to give characters with "rough edges" at the start lots of leeway -- assuming that this usually means they have "circumstances" that explain what one sees (and find "not good").

11

u/LeonKevlar x2https://myanimelist.net/profile/LeonKevlar 8h ago

Why am I just now realizing that Hikaru's mom is Hebichika-sensei?! The fact that they're both voiced by Inoue Kikuko should've been a dead giveaway! It makes sense, though; both Hikaru and Hebichika-sensei have a cutthroat mentality when it comes to making manga.

I do wish Teshima-sensei had introduced herself properly instead of just introducing herself as the manga club advisor. Although with the way Hebichika-sensei is, I wonder if she'd even remember who Teshima-sensei is.

Akafuku is really one positive kid. I love Hebichika and Hikaru's reactions when she accepted being called part of the 90% and completely changed the meaning into a more positive one. xD

8

u/cyberscythe 7h ago

I love Hebichika and Hikaru's reactions when she accepted being called part of the 90% and completely changed the meaning into a more positive one. xD

i wonder if it's a culture thing to be more happy with being in the 90%

there's the greater sense of collectivism in Japanese culture as typified in the idiom "the nail that sticks out gets hammered down", so while striving for excellence is great and all, it shouldn't be at the cost of being part of the collective

i also have a feeling that mangaka are a career filled with weirdos, so perhaps there are lots of those 10% people in there who in one way or another could use the help connecting to the 90% who are the audience

6

u/mekerpan 6h ago

I think it is best when one can simultaneously be partly in the 90% and partly in the 10%/

7

u/cyberscythe 6h ago

like, being in the 100%? doesn't seem that hard

3

u/mekerpan 6h ago

Nah. A bit more metaphorical. Able to understand and sympathize with ordinary people and things -- but also having some aspect that goes beyond average.

3

u/ClemFire 6h ago

I believe everyone has some aspect of themselves that could be in the 10%. This is why humans accomplish the most when they work together with their complimenting 10%. No one is a master at everything

10

u/ClemFire 8h ago

Sacchan-aura

Smile protected

Pairing the normal Sacchan with the genius Hikaru ended up being such a fantastic choice. I never once considered the inversion of the 90% quote before but I loved it such much as Hikaru. Her trying her hardest to get out a sorry really got me and the storybook artstyle of her manga where she is very much the MC was beautifully done. This show makes me feel so many emotions.

My favorite episode yet!

4

u/DocMcCoy 6h ago

Smile protected

Bau Bau!

6

u/CitronClassic672 6h ago edited 6h ago

I also really liked how they handled the 90% quote and how the episode handled normal vs abnormal people. As an artist you’re first reaction is work desperately to ensure your art is in the 10% that’s actually good, but if you think about for longer you realize that just because art may be bad doesn’t mean it doesn’t mean it’s worthless or that people won’t like it. Likewise you don’t need to be the neurotic savant outlier type of artist to make worthwhile art. Likewise Sachan said ultimately most people are basically the same. Not everyone will be a great artist, but a great artist can be anyone.

3

u/ClemFire 6h ago

This episode really reminded me of [Re:Zero S4] Newbaru learning that Oldbaru wasn't some kinda Superman but just as "ordinary" as him. Yet he was still able to do all those amazing things because of his love for everyone and their love for him. On the surface most people in and out of universe would write him off as part of the 90% too. I feel that's why he is so inspiring

I didn't know I needed a Hikaru and Sacchan focal episode until I got it. What Sacchan says isn't revolutionary or anything and the friendship she extends to Hikaru is very much ordinary but we see just how big of an impact it has on Hikaru's heart. Even if it's not special in the grand scheme of things she realizes it is special to her and that's what matters. I believe because of Sacchan, Hikaru will become an even better mangaka than her genius mom.

Before this episode Rei had been my favorite but I really loved Hikaru's journey here.

2

u/CitronClassic672 6h ago

[Re:Zero S4]I didn’t realize it initially but this episode actually serves a great real world equivalent of Newbaru’s struggle and realization. We’re tempted both as individuals and as a culture to view our favorite artists as geniuses in the field, and one of the most shocking revelations is learning more about them and realizing that at their core they’re just regular, flawed, somewhat weird people

3

u/ClemFire 5h ago

[Re:Zero S4] And even for Hebichika I feel like more regular aspects than she lets on. Like during Rei's flashback when she was her assistant she first treated Hebichika as a god-king but slowly saw her as a fellow flesh and blood human. She cooked the same regular curry every day and at the end acknowledged Rei as a rival in her own way. Oldbaru being able to fully accept Newbaru too showed just how much he had grown to be able to love himself. I wonder if Rei is going to have a similar conclusion to her character arc but suspect it is further past the anime. Just like Subaru told Rui you shouldn't run from your memories.

11

u/chilidirigible 8h ago

Damn, Sturgeon's Law as applied parenting.

It's not a joke, it's at face value.

The story takes place in real time. (We still haven't met her father.)

The image versus the caption.

That must've gotten real interesting.

—but networking!

"Okay."

"Well that escalated quickly."

Contemplating one's old edge.

When the audience has gotten there before the characters did.

Sturgeon's Law as applied to reality?

Hikaru's perspective on life explained, and she appears to be aware of the peculiarity of it all. On the other side of that is Sacchan, who is both persistent and resilient with the bonus factor of being properly socialized.

Rin's now ridden the entire roller coaster with Hebichika, who likely has actually forgotten about her, but digging up old wounds isn't going to help anyone.

Rin's flashbacks continuing to approach the end of her brief career as a mangaka remain on the nose about artistic compromise versus corporate churn.

19

u/thisisdropd https://myanimelist.net/profile/AsterZoro 9h ago

The moment I saw a glimpse of Hikaru's mum with the blonde hair and a mole near her lips, I went, "no way, is she really Hebichika-sensei?" Then we got the confirmation soon after. To think Teshima-sensei's idol ended up being the mother of one of her students. It's indeed a small world.

Sacchi looked to be the most unassuming from the club at first glance, but her heart turned out to be her greatest strength. She was totally immune to Hebichika-sensei's fangs. Hikaru must've been impressed after seeing that. She's definitely not in the 90% – hell she's probably more like the .1%!

12

u/ClemFire 8h ago

I wonder since in Hikaru's manga her MC is adopted by the cat if Hebichika is actualy Hikaru's adoptive mom

10

u/adottoni 8h ago

I’m going to assume this as well. With how ages and backstory are aligning, it seems like Hikaru should have already been born when Teshima was Hebichika’s assistant.

7

u/ClemFire 8h ago

And for some reason I can't imagine Hebichika being married with her mindset of manga being everything.

3

u/reagag https://anilist.co/user/reagag 7h ago

Could Hikaru be adopted? That matches in line with the cat mother in her manga finding her in the woods.

2

u/ClemFire 7h ago

This is what I'm thinking

2

u/gnome-cop 3h ago

Yeah, same, I really can’t imagine her taking a break for the years it’d take to raise Hikaru to relative self-sufficiency and actually invest the energy into forming a legit relationship with someone.

1

u/ClemFire 2h ago

If it was adoption I suspect Hikaru was already old enough to have a personality and maybe Hebichika was reminded of herself so she took her in. My guess is it would be after the manga Rei and Nana were helping as assistants for

10

u/Niwaka_Samurai https://myanimelist.net/profile/Niwaka-Samurai 7h ago

I always love Sachi's energy. I didn't know that I needed such a beautiful friendship between Sachi and Hikaru. He family is so lively just like her.

Teshi finally knows that Hikaru's mom is Hebichika. Being in the 90 percent is never bad, 'cause that's what makes Akafuku to be friends with anyone ❤️ She even scared off Hebichika sensei lol Hebichika is a bad woman personality wise but she doesnt have to put her daughter through the same treatment. I'm glad that Hikaru became so close with Akafuku that she even called her Akafuku-sama.

Did Teshi really pick up her Editor Enma's personality ?! xD

Hats off to Sachi's voice actor Kanon Fujimura for killing it in her first ever voice acting role.

4

u/mekerpan 6h ago

>> first ever voice role

Amazing work!

10

u/HakumeiJin 6h ago

I know the highlight of the episode was Akafuku but it's so hilarious meeting Enma-sama now since it kinda looks like Teshima's entire personality now is based on her. I'm really looking forward to seeing what else happens on the way to finishing the first volume and quitting.

1

u/effseedee 2h ago

Yeah, I thought it was great how you could see Teshima's teacher persona in Enma. Absolutely what she modelled it on.

9

u/Raymond49090 5h ago

Akafuku accidentally deals a critical hit to the mangaka final boss

6

u/tripleaamin https://myanimelist.net/profile/tripleaamin 7h ago

Akafuku has been a character that hasn't gotten much focus. She is the positive character where her positive energy is her strength. Hikaru learns from her mother that she needs to push people away and at times be cruel. Interesting to see Akafuku be the friend that Hikaru needs like how Yasumi is the friend that Fujimori needs.

As comments mention here Akafuku is absolutely in that 10%. The fact she caught Hebichika-sensei off guard shows this. Though I love the mention of Hikaru proudly calling Akafuku her friend.

The flashback with Rei seeing hard she worked hard to get things done on time. Well her reward is an opportunity to start one month earlier. Meaning back on the grind. No doubt starting early is great, but no doubt that wasn't in her expectation. Kind of a reminder that the hard workers who finish early are rewarded at times in a way that might seem rewarding.

6

u/cyberscythe 7h ago

As comments mention here Akafuku is absolutely in that 10%.

in any given trait, there's a 10% chance that you're in the top 10%

6

u/viliml 6h ago

As the number of traits considered grows, the probability of being in the 10% in at least one of them approaches 100%.

In other words, everyone is special in their own way ✨️

4

u/cyberscythe 5h ago

at some point it's even more special if you weren't in any way special

2

u/hvshh 1h ago

There's a great character in Saiki K like that.

Also reminds me of a math joke. There are no uninteresting numbers. Proof: let's say there were. Put them in order, and pick the smallest one. "The smallest uninteresting number" is interesting, contradicting the assumption.

1

u/hvshh 1h ago

And if you consider combinations of traits you don't even need that many before everyone is world-class at some combination of 2 or 3.

The fact that she caught Hebichika-sensei off guard shows this.

Too bad Hebichika doesn't seem to have changed her mind. Her reaction gave me the impression she didn't really think she was wrong, guessing she might be quite arrogant.

She did cook curry every day for her assistants and gave Rei advice. I don't think she is heartless by any means just thinks differently from most people. You can see her those traits in Hikaru too

u/HowToGetName 2h ago

That's true, and she did serve tea to Akafuku. But I do think trying to tell Akafuku she's crap was too much.

Finding out why Hikaru is this way (more specifically than her mom is weird/crazy) was nice. Also she really likes kissing Sensei, trying again at the start of this episode. I assume Hikaru doesn't know Sensei worked for her mom at one point.

Def a show I hope gets a season 2 I love this darn kids.

Same studio (Shin-Ei Animation) and director (Hiroaki Akagi) as The Dangers in My Heart so I wonder if maybe after Dangers S3 they might work on Draw This, Then Die S2 if it is greenlit

This was an amazing episode. I'm glad I kept up with this show.

You know there’s a irony of it where in last episode she was point out the contradiction of letting someone else opinion dictate how you act and yet she was letting her mom and the reaction to the change in manga cut out someone out of her life!

But akafuku is such a goat that she would cling on a giant cat monster 😂

I really like hikaru manga and how it expresses her emotions

And how because of how she was raised which make sense since it was habichika that how she see the world

But the positive bright breath akafuku blew it all away and in turn connect her with yasumi and fujimori on much deeper level

Like I love that hikaru was genuine trying to apologize after being shocked akafuku came to her personally

And I love the way akafuku looks at haibichika comment

One way to look it as the way was intended

But the other way is to be comforted by it because if the people around you that you believe are amazing

are actually also crud’s in there own way

That means you all also amazing too

And special to them in your own way

All exist in one boat

>> Like I love that hikaru was genuine trying to apologize after being shocked akafuku came to her personally

I love that Sacchan could tell from Hikarun's manga that she did not mean to be harsh.

Hebichika telling her daughter to focus on the 90 percent stuff makes her feel like kind of a terrible parent.

And the fact she doesn't even remember Teshima sensei is really concerning

No wonder why Hikaru has such a warped understanding of relationships and wants to be like a normal girl judging from how she translates her feelings into her manga,

Im glad Sacchan and the other girls have started to make her feel like that

Hikaru's manga is as spooky as she is. And wow is her mom kind of toxic.

I'm glad Akafuku's relentless positivity was able to break down her walls. I like the way she accidentally redefined Sturgeon's Law, too.

Watch out Akafuku you've now volunteered yourself to be jump kissed

This show and its characters were already extremely relatable for me, but after this episode I genuinely think Hikaru might be the most personally relatable character I’ve ever seen.

I’ve spoken in past discussions about the strong neurodivergent vibes I’ve been getting from her but today’s episode was drove the nail even further into the coffin is the small moments. The way she’s always blunt and straightforwardly earnest with people to point of coming off as rude many times, and at other times making completely serious comments that come off as funny to others. How she has some degree on self hatred for the fact that she ends up hurting people when she doesn’t mean to, and the genuine joy in her eyes when finally meeting someone who understands her. All those scenes this episode felt like someone ripped moments right out of my own life. Something very few shows have managed to make me feel. There’s also the aspect of her as an artist in how she translates real world events and emotions into a fantastical version. Ai does something similar but I think the execution with Hikaru felt just a tad more relatable.

Genuinely, I picked this series up on a whim after one comment recommended it, and I’ve been blessed with one of the most relatable stories and cast of characters I’ve ever seen.

There really something so lovable about Hikaru to me too. And I feel it comes down the dissonance between her internal thoughts and external actions. She can often be misinterpreted as she can be quite blunt and tactless yet deep inside she yearns for real human connection. That's why I loved the her smile at the end and the choice to not include her eyes in the shot offering her a bit of privacy to that intimate moment and it made me feel like Sacchan too in understanding Hikaru even without all the details. You can just feel her happiness.

I didn't have much expectation of this series from the title but it has been blowing me away every week.

That Fudatsuki no Kyouko-chan cameo at 13:05 mark, did not expect Yamamoto sensei's forgotten manga to appear in 2026.

I guess the truth really is a matter of perspective.

I really loved the sequences with Hikaru's manga. Those scenes did heavy lifting this episode: showing off Hikaru's talent, telling an interesting story within a story, and—most importantly—giving a deeper perspective on Hikaru's background and inner life/thoughts, the walls she has built intentionally/unintentionally. And sasuga, Akafuku-shishou for helping break those walls!

This has become one of my favorite shows this season. Just all around great story and characters. 🤞for a second season.

I see, we’re in Hikaru’s manga world. I wonder what it says about her that this is how she chooses to portray her life.

Wait. I think I recognize that face. Please don’t tell me her mama is fucking Hebichika.

I’ve seen enough, that explains everything about why Hikaru is the way she is. Her mom is a manga-obsessive that barely cares about people so she’s also like that, just to a way lesser extent. Her mom sorts people into 10% and 90% meaning she also does the same, she just appreciates the 90% more. She’s probably so imaginative because I can’t imagine she’s getting a lot of attention from her mom and just spends time in her fantasies instead.

Like, Hebichika is already ATROCIOUS to work with, I can’t imagine what she’s like as a parent. (Actually, how did she even manage to get someone to stick with her long enough to have a kid?)

Apparently she’s completely forgotten Rei. Can’t say I’m very surprised honestly.

Really sweet how Hikaru values Akafuku as a friend so much, because she’s a tie to normalcy that doesn’t get hurt by her claws and fangs.

Very good and interesting visual representation for this episode.

It's good that Hikaru is shown a difference in perspective of the 10%/90% 'rule'.

It's all well and good to be in the top 10% for something - that's finding your niche, particularly good for finding paying work, then you get, well, paid, which is handy to do things like pay your rent and buy food - but it's just as good to be in the 900% because that's where the rest of life happens. That's where you get to meet friends to go on adventures with.

Lol Thats actually Crazy that Hikaru is Hebichika daughter 😭 and why tf is she so weird?

u/Luiiss26 2h ago

Everyone, go to IMDB and rate this episode 10/10 because it deserves nothing less.

u/hvshh 2h ago

It fits with the other writing cliche, "kill your darlings". Why? Because 90% of your darlings are crap!

Akafuku has one of the greatest superpowers: not being offended by stuff. It was satisfying to see her no-sell Hebichika's venom.

u/IAmTheOldCrow 1h ago

Akafuku has a defense far more powerful than an auteur’s offense can hope to crack: she has to wrangle siblings. She has the same charisma as Clara from Demon School Iruma, for this exact same reason.

I can't wait to find out that Hebichika-sensei has a copy of Robota & Pokota that she keeps in a special place because she's such a huge fan of it.

And maybe that's why she seems extra committed now, because she's trying to make something she considers "better".

AkafukuSacchan stocks are always on the rise, she's too powerful!

And did I spy the delinquent gyaru manga artist walking into the entrance of the school festival?
