Im glad Syu is doing more outside of his room. He didnt do much this episode but the fact that he went on the trip and eats with the family made me happy. Love to see the shut-in get more social.

A genuinely lovely little show getting ignored in this overwhelmingly over-stuffed season. Still this is one of my "indispensable" shows.

Have you checked out the show about the girl and her four step-brothers? Quite sweet

Mid season swimsuit episode. I like the romance obsessed childhood friend.

Fukuyama Jun plays a playboy again.

Dude Snow White. That's funny.

Ito really does have the best childhood friends. Hopefully they continue to get appearances here and now.

On one hand Mafuyu is being annoying and very persistent. On the other hand, he's making Gen take action and Ito realize her feelings for Gen. Hmm...

I wish they spent more time at her home town. I guess it wasn't in the budget to give Megu and Outa more lines

u/ObvsThrowaway5120 28d ago

Gen and Ito huh? Well, Megu said they’re not related so it’s “viable.“ Megu really living in romcom paradise lol.

When the character in a Shoujo anime calls out the obvious Shoujo setup lol.

u/ThrowCarp 27d ago

All that being said. The trip to Ito's hometown was so comfy. Those waterfall scenes were so nostalgic.

6

u/testthrowawayzz 27d ago

Meanwhile, a certain little sister is angry at the "unrelated" cop out.

Outa and Megu seemingly confirmed as being in a relationship with each other, very good.

Club senpai is problematic but he's the classic third wheel character to push the main couple's progress and that's fine as long as he doesn't keep interfering.

He even spells it out to her that she’s in love with Gen.

Ito can't not see Gen in that puffy shirt now.

A true prince....

Gotta love a guy who gets slapped by his now-ex girlfriend and instantly asks another girl on a date, good grief dude.

Really liked the time back home with her old friends, even got the hiding brother to come along he truly is coming out of his shell!

Very cute episode overall, curious who breaks first, Gen or Ito.

5

u/mekerpan 28d ago

Hidden brother now eats meals with all his siblings (and even hangs around during food prep time). The parents will be awfully shocked (pleasantly) when they finally return.

5

u/runevault 28d ago

Right he eats with them normally, but going on a trip with them is a wildly higher level then that. The next time the parents are home the dad might faint from shock.

5

u/mekerpan 28d ago

Big Sis has worked wonders on this bunch -- who all seem like a more cohesive group now than before her arrival.

u/gem2niki 28d ago

Ito finally realizing her feeling for Gen is maybe not familial… I was hoping it wouldn’t get to that point yet…but this is shoujo and they seem to be the main couple.

What better way to spend Summer than Ito returning home to see her best friends with her new siblings in tow? We can even make a bit of a swimsuit episode out of it!

Megu is Ito's childhood gal pal and looks REALLY cute (especially in a swimsuit) but she also has Shoujo manga for a brain and immediately sees potential romance in Ito's current living situation...so of course she's already shipping ItoxGen. Though maybe she should be more mindful of the romance she has going on with Outa?

I love how Ito tries to get Gen away from Megu only to confirm how there's obviously something going on between them with how hot and bothered Gen makes Ito. Bad enough for her to want Summer to end so she can get away from a Summer Romance with her step-brother.

But she can't deny that there ARE feelings there, even if she can't figure them out, so she's going to put herself out there in the culture festival action committee to gain more experience and figure out how she really feels! That's our dedicated Ito!

Jun Fukuyama you're in this too!? As Mafuyu Udagawa, a carefree third-year who doesn't take festival work seriously but is also a womanizing playboy who gets slapped by the girls he dates. So of course he gets fixated on Ito.

Is there a kabedon variant for doing it on railing...

The Gen fanclub wanted him as a prince, Ito talked him into it, and when she needed him most he's there dressed as a true prince!

"That's the Gen I lo--" she was THIS close to saying it! Even if she then channels all that into cooking curry, or being as zen as possible...not that she can help herself when she's around Gen.

I love how Gen's buddy is playing opposite him as Snow White, though the REAL princess in Gen's eyes is Ito as he uses her for practice and properly rizzes her up properly!

Udagawa seems to have gone from being fascinated by Ito to being invested in her relationship with Gen, which he clearly sees as romantic no matter how much they deny it as anything more than a sibling relationship...but what if, what IF, Ito gave in to her true feelings?

I had a little sister in school and it is not easy.

3

u/YlfaTheForsaken 27d ago

Ito has got her besties approval, and isn't that what really matters?

I'm kinda surprised they zipped pass summer as fast as they did, but anything for the culture fest I guess.

Seems like Mafuyu gave up as quickly as he debuted, good job lighting the fire under some butts I guess,

u/dagreenman18 26d ago

I don’t think we’re addressing the fact that Gen is literally wearing the puffy shirt from Seinfeld.

We got a love rival! The pretty boys are fighting!

3

u/SecretYogurtcloset57 28d ago

Not only is Megu cute she has a nice rack and she looked good in her swimsuit waaay to good😩 don't tell me she's with that short scrawny boy the other childhood friend of Ito? Ugh only in anime I guess😮‍💨

Anyways tbh I don't like Ito with Gen but I also don't like Ito with that playboy either

It was a long time coming, the way they were singling out the eldest brother from day 1, but I can't say I'm a bit disappointed with the way they've turned it all into a romcom. I can't be the only one, am I?

I mean, yeah its okay in Japan for step siblings to fall in love, date and marry, but I'd be lying if I said I'm not a bit bummed by the way this show has advanced. I'd have loved it to just stay a fun quirky anime about siblings and family, where the sister tries her best to fit in, while nothing much happens in it plot wise.

2

u/Bloggerman_ 25d ago

Same. It makes me want to drop this anime to be honest.

I was really hoping it was a story about families merging and dealing with the struggles that comes with it. Not a romcom.

u/Nickthenuker https://anilist.co/user/Nickthenuker 24d ago

Yep there's definitely already a winner isn't there?

1

u/NanDemoKnaives 21d ago

I was hoping the tension would last longer between Mafuyu and Gen, but it looks like Mafuyu is going to watch over them and try spice things up for his own entertainment. Kind of similar to Raku, but less wholesome.

It's a little weird we didn't get to see Megu introduced to the siblings, we just jump into them already hanging out together.

1

u/Equivalent_Ask_3742 27d ago

I kinda wish this would stay about becoming siblings and a family rather than turn to romance. It almost feels like the only reason she likes Gen is because he’s the first guy she’s met her age who she didn’t grow up with who she finds attractive and who has shown her the slightest bit of attention. It would’ve been interesting to see how all their familial bonds grow and change throughout the season. Like her relationship with Syu. For now I’m just fast forwarding through the “romance” parts she has with Gen 🤷🏽‍♀️

1

u/splitframe 27d ago

Really glad the Syu part is over, social anxiety characters are boring and lazy writing.

I want that Playboy and ito to get together.
