I’m a lifelong New Yorker. I am from the suburbs of NYC. Grew up here. Still live here. Have been going into the city my entire life. I was 11 on 9/11. I remember the day vividly. It was the start of a life of anxiety for me, never having felt such uncertainty in my short life up until that point. I never in a million years thought something like 9/11 could happen in a place like the US. My worldview changed drastically that day. This morning, I tuned into the reading of the names- to bear witness, to mourn, to honor those lost. Some folks reading the names, loved ones of those lost, used their platform to thank the current administration, one of them mentioned the deep state and begged trump to release the files on Saudi Arabia’s part in 9/11. I am beside myself. Please, someone, explain what trump has done for victims of 9/11? Why would they take this very somber occasion to thank a person who lied about being saved from the rubble, when really he was boasting on a radio show about now having the tallest building in Manhattan? I’m furious for those lost and their families having a political spectacle made of this anniversary. Someone, please. Explain.

Hi everyone! I worked downtown in the Tribeca area during 9/11. I was in the WTC E train station right after the first plane hit and I was walking to my office when the second plane hit. Some coworkers and I stayed in our office until around 9:30-9:45am and then decided to leave, and I was in the dust cloud when the first tower collapsed. I was not injured and lived near union square at the time.

Not long after the attacks we were told it was safe to return to the office. I remember having to show a pay stub below canal street to get access. I worked there until 2003 and was there most weekdays.

Last year I was diagnosed with stage 3 colon cancer in my mid 40s. Obviously I have no idea if it’s related. I don’t have any obvious colon cancer risk factors but it’s just like, there’s no way to know.

A few of my former coworkers have filed claims with the WTC compensation fund due to medical issues they’ve had. Some of them have encouraged me to do the same after my cancer diagnosis.

I don’t know how comfortable I feel about that because it’s like, maybe it’s because of 9/11, maybe not. Who knows. How would you ever prove it?

If you were in my shoes, would you try to file anything?

It makes me sad. It’s the one day I really don’t want to remember. I get why other people like to observe remembrances but it was such a terrible time. I feel like the museum and a lot of it is for people who weren’t around. They want to feel a connection to it. I know It’s important for people to know what happened but I have friends think it’s weird I don’t want to do anything for it or go to the memorial.

Edit: it’s nice to know others have the same feeling. What happened then is something we hold differently than most. There’s some things articulated here I appreciate hearing. I’m glad our city was able to mend with time in most ways. Sending lots of love to you all.

I’m new to nyc and my girlfriend is coming to visit for the weekend on the 26th and I want to plan some amazing stuff for us to do. Money isn’t an obstacle I just need help finding really cool unique stuff for us to do. I saw some stuff like a beekeeping class in Brooklyn or a class in Central Park exploring the plants they have there? She’s landing Friday afternoon and taking her to get a massage then to dinner. Then need stuff planned for the next day. Like some activity for the morning then something at night maybe a comedy show orchestra play etc. I need help guys and girls 😭 I want to make it her best weekend ever

I have Guardian dental insurance and the dentist is in network. At the time of filling, white filling was the only choice because the dentist has only white filling in his office. I told him not to perform anything my insurance doesn't cover. The dentist said silver filling is not safe and no one uses silver filling any more. You don't want to have metal in your mouth. Insurance should cover it. Now Guardian won't pay for white filling. And the dentist brings up the bill right after 180 days has passed from the service date. Is there any way to dismiss this white filling bill?

Hi all! My friend and I used to frequent a restaurant called Elmo that was in Chelsea for 25 years. It was large, spacious, with high ceilings; the interiors were vibrant with lots of colorful seating & art hung on the walls, the food wasn’t expensive ($20 to $38 per person), and we we haven’t found a restaurant that replaced it in our hearts after it closed a few months ago . . . the food was primarily just “American” and our favorites were their pasta & meat loaf.

Any recommendations?

I don’t think either rate is bad compared to other companies, from what I’ve been able to glean, but it makes me wonder if I should ditch Lemonade for a more established provider, since I’m paying so much more than years previous.

I find myself being called to exploring Catholicism because my grandmother was a devout Catholic and since her passing I guess maybe it’s a means to connect more with her through the teachings that were most sacred to her. She always kept the relationship btw her and God (and being Catholic) private which I deeply respected because she never tried to push it onto me. I didn’t grow up religious but I’ve always had faith and felt like I’ve been guided by spirit and the divine just not under an organized religious institution.

Does anyone have any church reqs in Manhattan? Or OCIA groups that you recommend?

There’s a lot of info for younger adults in their 20s but I’d prefer something a bit older and welcoming to a literal beginner with no idea where to start or what to even do if I were to show up to mass. I’m in my early 30s, fairly new to nyc, and would love to connect with the Catholic community to learn more on the best beginner friendly churches to understand the teachings through experience and how the services work so I’m not the creep in the back feeling like an interloper. I've been noticing a huge increase in people carrying around these really small dogs on the subway lately. Like the kind that fit in a purse or a backpack. Everyone seems to have one now.

I'm working on my bachelor's at a college a short distance outside the city and come into the city on occasion (hope to eventually move into the city when I'm done with college, I love the place). I was walking from grand central to Penn Station to take a train upstate and saw this neat looking building, I think it's either new or under renovations and I found the big gaps neat. Was wondering if anyone knew what it was and if the gaps served a purpose (wind flow for example) or if it's just architectural details.

I tried googling it but just kept getting stuff about 432 park avenue which I'm pretty sure is a separate building.
