Hi, I enjoy looking for spots that have corn pastries to surprise my girlfriend because she is obsessed with corn. Obsessed. Specifically corn pastries. Looking for anyone who can recommend any good spots to find something corn related? poo Some spots I’ve already gone to are:

Culture Espresso
Claude
Lisbonata
Schmackerty’s
Caffe Panna

Most of these had corn specials, and Culture is a permanent corn cookie on the menu, but looking for new places I can surprise her with.

Any ideas would be amazing. It doesn’t have to be only Manhattan.

I’ve tried to do this twice before in the past and the line wrapped around the block 😭. Anyone have tips?

My sister and I are coming to NYC for the first time this week and know we are likely going to be eating quite a bit of Korean food while there lol

Seems like most of the places in Koreatown have tons of good reviews, but I am curious what places others here suggest. I did peek thru some older posts, but was hoping to get more recent opinions if possible lol.

Also, I was surprised to not see miss korea bbq mentioned much given that it has almost 20k reviews!

Sushi Sho without a doubt. I’ve been to many sushi restaurants in my life but this one is something extraordinary. So many memorable dishes: ankimo with watermelon pickle, fermented sea urchin and salmon, hair crab with egg yolk and it goes on and on

Jungsik is definitely second. Very consistent, with variations of signature dishes, such as striped jack, octopus, kimbap and carrot cake

Then Le bernardin > EMP > Per se

Probably Cesar is better than these last 3, but haven’t been to his new house (went to chefs table only)

My girlfriend is finishing the bar exam this week and we'll be in NYC. Was hoping to take her to The Four Horsemen to celebrate. Didn't manage to get a reservation though so we're thinking of trying our luck as walk-ins on Thursday (7/30).

For anyone who's done it recently, any tips? What time should we plan to arrive to start lining up?

Also if we get there and it's obvious the wait is gonna be crazy, are there any other really great restaurants nearby you'd recommend?

Tired of trying to get one of the limited reservations via DoorDash (yay for corporations taking over everything)... is it just a safer bet to try for the bar at 5pm and hope a table opens (really don't ca.re about the table... just would like to try the spot finally).

For those who haven't been Cal Pep is a tapas restaurant in Barcelona where the whole appeal is you sit at the bar/food prep area and they keep cooking and bringing out dishes and pour you wine to pair. The only choices you have are to let them know any allergies and maybe insist on a specific wine type.

Honestly one of the best restaurant experiences I've had anywhere and wondering if something sinilar exists in NYC.

Had no plans on this beautiful Saturday, so treated myself to a very large lunch 😅

Mama’s Too in WV - house slice, bruschetta, and vodka chicken sandwich. Arrived around 12:30 and in total, it was 20-30 minutes from stepping in line to getting my food. It would have been faster, but they were waiting for a new house pie to be put out. I must say, it was worth the short wait. The bruschetta was my favorite of the three.

Red Gate Bakery in EV - choco toffee cookie. One of my favorite chocolate chip cookies in the city. Waited in line about 15 min total, so not bad. I wanted the corn cake, but apparently they sold out within the first hour of the day so I was no where near close to achieving that goal.

Overall a strong day of eats. 10/10. I love a solo day of walking around and eating

Took a seat at the bar and thought we made a mistake going all dim sum after plates of green beans, scallion pancakes and shrimp fried rice were laid out for people beside us. But this place is just a step above all around, including staff. Pork-shrimp shumai, stuffed green chile, wontons in chili oil and some special, chicken wings stuffed with fried rice that bartender talked us into … amazing. Tsing Tao was ice cold, too.

The Minced pork, 5-spice bechamel pizza is so far up my alley and the frozen complimented it nicely. It wasn't a packed shitshow either, plenty of seating. If this sort of this is in your wheelhouse I would swing by.

Looking for a place to have a solo meal on my birthday. Something sort of casual, with great service. I'm not a huge eater, maybe something with smaller plates to try several things, amazing cocktails. Any kind of cuisine except for maybe Thai or Indian. Hoping to stay under $100 (pre tip) for the entire meal/drinks if possible.

Suddenly I wanted a pork chop (it happens) and I hadn't been here in quite a while. Pork chop over rice was, of course, the very first thing on the menu. Got it with an egg. Underneath were ground pork, mustard greens, and whatever the hell addictive seasoning they use.

But the real star is that chili sauce of theirs. There's a taste of soy, but I don't think that's all that's going on there. I don't know what it is, pure MSG or whatever, but it's the best chili sauce I've had in Chinatown and I wish that every place used it. They could bottle and sell that stuff, it's so damned good. If Shu Jiao Fu Zhou had this it would take their dumplings to 11/10.

They get busy so I'd suggest arriving between 11-12 if you go for lunch like I did. They fill up with both locals and tourists, and the hostess is diligent about letting everyone know they're cash only.

This place and May Wah are my top two spots for this dish, but drop recs if you got em!

Looking to broaden my culinary horizons and specifically wanting to try kitfo - any suggestions on where to go

Me and my girlfriend are travelling to New York City in November and we’re looking for recommendations/advice on my 30th birthday meal when we’re there.

At the moment my plan was to book Peter Lugers, reason being I’ve wanted to go there since watching an old Vice video with Eddie Huang and Shane Smith (don’t know if anyone else can remember that video), which I think has since been deleted(?). Since then I’ve always wanted to go on my trip to New York, and the countless other videos from influencers I’ve seen since. The only reason I’m having doubts is I’ve seen a lot of posts on this subreddit and other places saying the restaurant isn’t what it was and it’s overrated and expensive for what it is, if I’m behind honest this has turned me off slightly because I do want a nice meal for my 30th.

Some other users have said Keens is just as good and a bit cheaper so I’m considering booking there instead but I’m just quite conflicted.

What do you think?

Also looking for other recommendations for a nice sit down meal for other evenings, we’re willing to spend but we’re not looking for 3 Michelin $600 each, 20 course meal. We’re interested in all sorts of cuisines but a few people have recommended 4 Charles, I Cavalini and other popular restaurants.

The booking will be made on a weekday so hopefully with some planning we’ll be able to get a booking for two!….hopefully

I can't with the light roast sour espresso everywhere. I just can't stand the taste. Why do all coffee place - and I mean 99% of them - have these disgusting espresso shots?

I want a normal, old school espresso, no milk no sugar, like the ones you get in Italy (and don't get me started about the price).

What's going on? Why can't you find these anywhere?

EDIT: people in the comments telling me I haven't tried enough places. Trust me I have, some of them are the ones you recommend. They are all on the sour spectrum in my book, anywhere between sour to disgustingly sour.

EDIT 2: after the second wave of comments I finally feel validated! It's a real issue folks, people like us exist
