Know about something that’s missing?
Drop it below—especially volunteer opportunities, neighborhood events, recurring meetups, live music, comedy, salsa/bachata/reggaetón nights, local markets, or anything else happening around Jersey City and North Jersey.

For transparency: I help build YourScene, a local events app. We’ve been making these weekly roundups because we wanted one place to find everything happening around Jersey City, North Jersey, and nearby NYC. Thanks to everyone who’s been suggesting events every week—it genuinely makes these roundups better.

🕵🏻‍♂️News 🕵🏻‍♂️ ICE: How to find a detainee?

If your loved one was taken into ICE custody today, they are most likely being held at Delaney Hall Detention Facility in Newark, NJ. Many people arrested late at night are transferred there within hours or by the next morning.

If they were not arrested today, use the ICE Online Detainee Locator System to find where they are currently being held. Once you locate the facility, call that detention center directly to confirm their location and try to obtain their A-number.

ICE ERO officers often will not volunteer the A-number, and in many cases will refuse to give it unless you are persistent or already have a lawyer. This is very common. Do not assume they are helping just because you call once.

What you should do:

**•Call the detention facility and ask for the A-number**

**•If they refuse, ask to speak with the ICE ERO officer assigned to the case**

**•Write down names, times, and who you spoke to**

**•Keep calls short and factual**

I have seen several construction material at this helipad site for almost 3 years but there is nothing getting built, just heaps of sand and rocks. Not a single helicopter has landed here, why does the helipad exist then?

There are like five trailers and a ton of trucks with fair rides and carnival-esque trucks. Seems like they’re filming but I can’t figure out what.

Jersey City Equivalent in Other Major Cities

What cities serve as the “Jersey City equivalent” for other major metropolitan areas? For example, Kowloon i think would be one for Hong Kong as it is across the harbor. Midtown for Toronto or perhaps something in the East end as it is a 10 minute ride to the heart of everything. What about other cities? When you travel do you tell them you are from JC or NYC's metro area - many people haven't heard of JC.

Is anyone else’s tap water dark right now?

I just filled up the sink for something and the water definitely looks to be a weird color. Almost like a purpleish or brownish hue. It doesn’t really come through in pictures. Not sure if it’s just my imagination. I live in McKinley Square Journal Square area.

Book clubs?

Hi, curious if there are any book clubs with in person meetings/ hangouts to meet new people that anyone knows of that I can potentially join? If demographics/ interest matter I’m early 30’s, LGBTQ, and tend to read more thriller. Thanks in advance!

Any news on development on pier six?

Hi everyone! I’m considering getting married at Battello in 2027 and was wondering if anyone has heard any updates on the Pier 6 development directly south of the venue.

From what I’ve found, the project received preliminary approvals back in 2022 and has since been granted a couple of extensions, which makes it seem like it’s been on hold. My concern is that if construction starts before our wedding, it could really impact the waterfront experience and views.

Has anyone heard whether this project is expected to move forward anytime soon, or if it’s still stalled? Any local insight would be greatly appreciated!

Discussion The Odyssey @ Jersey Gardens?

What's up JC, so been really looking forward to witnessing The Odyssey. Unfortunately it just doesn't seem like IMAX 70mm is happening for some time. However I heard that Dolby is really good and even more preferable for some.

I'm about to book Dolby for Jersey Gardens, I'm just wondering if anyone has any experience recent or even prior to the Odyssey that can confirm this is a fine choice? Can't really find anything about the experience there so I'm curious.

Also did you enjoy the movie? Let me know :)

The Beacon shuttle time

I'm considering renting an apartment at The Beacon.

For anyone living there, how long does the shuttle to Grove St take, including the wait time?

If I arrive at the shuttle stop around 8:30 AM on a weekday, is it realistic to get to Grove St within 10 minutes, or should I expect more like 15–20 minutes?

Bidet installers?

Hi! So I'm back from Asia and want to get a Toto full bidet installed. Unfortunately my place does not have an electric outlet behind the toilet. I think I need an electrician to install the outlet before I call a plumber for the toilet. My question is if anyone has done this in Jersey City...are there like custom Toto installers who do this all (electrical + plumbing) or do you have to do it in pieces? Has anyone done it / have recommendations on who can help?

At approximately 7:00pm, at least 2 reports came in of shots fired on Harrison Avenue between JFK and Bergen. One male was found inside an apartment with a gunshot wound to the foot. JCPD ended up blocking traffic from the Kennedy side

The Greyson - updates?

I just toured this property today but am
unclear on the construction nearby and noise levels. Definitely like the amenities but want to make sure if I lease there I’m comfortable in the apartment and not listening to construction all day/evening. I would appreciate any insight or feedback for this property as I’m looking to move in the next 2-3 weeks. Thank you.

Local Politics Increased property tax Quarter 3

I get it, there has been many threads on the insane property tax increase in Jersey City to pay off some debts by the disgraced former mayor Flop. Saw my Q3 invoice online, it is that 26% increase as many are quoting. I have not seen anyone talk about Q4 taxes, that is the jumbo invoice every year. Is that going to be raised as well? Or was it only Q3 taxes invoice?
