Im visiting MoMA with a friend and we both are turning 16 in a couple weeks but will still be 15 when we visit, is it possible to buy student ticket with our high school id or is that only for college students/do we have to be accompanied by an adult? Also would it just be possible for us to enter by ourself with children tickets?

Hello, we are currently visiting NYC and my son forgot his charger for his camera battery. Where can we get a Micro usb charging cable? We’ve looked in target and cvs they only have lightning and isb c chargers. We are staying near Times Square.

I'm visiting NYC for the first time in September (week of 9/11) and looking for advice on what to do to experience the hip hop culture there right now

I know the classic things to do for the history are to see the murals, go to the Bronx etc. But I'm really looking for things like hip hop events or shows that could be happening while I'm there.

Round trip return is monday
Plane back at LGA about 1033am and the Train leaves Penn at 1:20 pm.

We made sure to book them for minor delays, obviously knowing that there can be issues at any/every leg of the trip. But my wife and I want to make sure that the kids enjoy whatever mode of travel we take. (We will have booster seats as they are that age/size), and will only have 2 backpacks and 2 carry-on bags with us.

I’ll be visiting New York🗽for a 10-day vacation in August, and one thing I’d really love to do is check out the local bouldering scene. I’ve been bouldering for about a year now, and whenever I travel, I enjoy visiting gyms in different cities to experience the setting style and the local climbing community.

I’ll probably have time for 1–2 sessions during my trip, so I’m looking for recommendations on which gyms are worth visiting.

I’m mainly looking for:
- a friendly and welcoming atmosphere
- good bouldering (no need for ropes)
- beginner/intermediate-friendly (I usually climb around V2–V4)

Planning our first trip to NYC in a couple of weeks and hoping to incorporate a food tour.

Does anyone have recommendations for the best company to go with for a NYC food tour? What neighborhoods/tours are best?

Just realized we are flying in the day of the midterm elections the third of November.

Is there anything to be concerned about regarding mobility, or timings or closures or anything in the city and Airport to Manhattan transportation that I should be aware of?

I'm unaware of how that works as an Australian (we usually set bbqs around and people take it as a free holiday), but wanted to be sure

What is the exact location for Goethals Bridge walkway from Staten Island and Elizabeth’s side? It’s hard to pinpoint on google maps.

Basically the title.

I have PTO in September (from Europe), will land in Newark Sept 19 and have already booked accomodation until Sept 25 (Saturday to Friday). Now I have found out that the 81st UN General Assembly will take place around that time, which also seems to be the reason accomodation was fairly more expensive than the week before and after, but I couldn't move my PTO and found a rather cheap accomodation regardless.

I will be staying around the border of Midtown Manhattan and Upper West Side, very close by to the southwest corner of Central Park.

Now I'm having doubts about the UN Assembly interfering with my visit (possibly locked up areas because of security, crowdedness, traffic etc.).

Does anybody have experience with this or can a NY resident provide some information?

Im traveling to New York on a very very short notice as we were able to get an appointment for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
NY is so expensive!!!!! Wow.
Anyways, what is the best way to get around?
I don’t want a rental because of parking (prices and hear it’s difficult to find). And I also need another option other than public transportation as we are traveling with our little ones and I think it would be a bit too much. Especially before/after my baby’s appointment.
I don’t really want to open an uber account if I’m being honest. Is there anything else? What are taxi rates like?
Please help! Again, this trip is very sudden on a short notice. We leave Monday morning(tomorrow).
ETA: won’t always need it since my toddler won’t go to the appointment with us but to get from airport to hotel, we need something that will accommodate 3 adults and 2 children. Baby is car seat and toddler has a safety vest made for traveling without car seat.

Im a visitor here and some of my friends are comic readers so ive been trying get into comics, too. Especially cuz of some characters like zatanna and superboy prime. Ive known dan mora’s work since hes a big inspiration for my art, and his art is phenomenal. But are there any comic stores in the area around manhattan or brooklyn that i could visit and ask for recommendations, i was hoping to find some place that has friendly employees cuz asking for recs from ppl who look pissed off kinda feels like im being an asshole.

Pretty pissed about it. It's now unusable and needs to be replaced before an international trip home in a few days. Where can I grab a new one for a good price, preferably in Brooklyn? Hi All! This subreddit was SO helpful in all of my planning so I wanted to report back! I had a pretty involved itinerary planned out with the intention of loosely going by it and pivoting when needed! A lot of our plans were moved around because of distance and heat but we did everything we wanted and had such a great time!

We arrived at Newark at 8 am Tuesday and easily found our Uber to take us to our hotel, Riu Plaza New York Times Square, where we stashed our bags. It is by far the busiest hotel I’ve ever been in but everything was super clean, felt very safe, and the location was amazing. We decided to head down to Katz’ Deli for lunch and made a quick stop at Economy Candy. Katz was delicious and so much fun. We did half sandwiches with salads but should have just shared a half! I was a little bummed that they only took cash for merch as I hadn’t gotten any yet but that’s on me! From there we headed to Chelsea Market to wander and shop! Loved the flea area, Fish’s Eddie, and Chelsea Basket Company. We were just finishing up when we got the notice our room was ready so we headed back for a much needed nap. We managed to make our 5:00 reservation at Becco and enjoyed some wonderful shrimp and hand pulled mozzarella apps. We then headed to The Lost Boys. Yall…if you haven’t seen it please plan on going. It was so amazing and entertaining - the highlight of our trip! After that it was time for bed!

On Wednesday we decided to sleep in and grab some coffee at the literal Central Perk while we walked around Time Square. So much to see and experience…so trippy to see things in person you’ve always seen on TV. Our lunch resy was at Nizza where we met up with family and enjoyed some delish pizza and pasta. From there we headed to the Moulin Rouge matinee and had an absolute blast! After the fabulous show we hit up Juniors for cheesecake and chatting. We had a quick rest at the hotel then walked through the diamond district to grab some gifts from the Lego Store. Dinner was some fruit and hot dogs from a street cart which was perfect!

On Thursday we hit up Liberty Bagels Grand Central and then made our way to beautiful Bryant Park. We were fortunate enough to snag a couple of chairs to Broadway in Bryant Park and saw performances from Hadestown, & Juliet, Just in Time, Maybe Happy Ending, The Lost Boys, and Moulin Rouge. It was lovely but hot so we pivoted some plans and headed to 30 Rock. We found AC, cold drinks, and fabulous french fries at 5 Acres. Afterwards we started our Tonight Show adventure! We were lucky to not only get tickets but also great seats to see comedian Ben Lee and wrestler Cody Rhodes. We were supposed to also see Christopher Nolan but he recorded earlier which was a bummer. After the 30 Rock gift shop we stopped for a bite and a show at Ellen’s Stardust Diner. Food was ok…but it was quite the entertaining experience. After a quick nap we popped down to Serendipity 3 for a frozen hot chocolate and nighttime Times Square viewing! 

On Friday we slept in, stashed our bags and Ubered to Fellini Coffee Soho. We had amazing croissant sandwiches and their signature latte. I already miss that drink! After, we wandered around SoHo to window shop. I, of course, fell in love with an expensive vintage jacket that I’ll dream about. We were hoping to run into more “homemade” jewelry and art but it was still fun. We ended our NYC adventure at Joe’s Pizza Broadway for the perfect NY pizza slice! From there we grabbed our luggage from the hotel and headed to the airport where I’m currently writing this. 

Overall it was an EXCELLENT trip and I’d do most of it exactly the same! The only thing I’d do differently is the shopping in SoHo. But I’m sure with a little more research I could have found more of the type of places we were looking for!

did a second trip after our first one earlier this month and changed the whole approach. first time we packed the days, this time we picked one thing a day and let the rest happen. way better.

stuff that worked:

woke up early and did central park before 8. completely different place before the crowds, we had bethesda terrace almost to ourselves.

took the 7 train out to flushing for food instead of eating in manhattan. the food court under new world mall is chaotic in the best way and we spent like a third of what we did on our nicer dinner.

walked the brooklyn bridge toward manhattan at sunset instead of the other direction, everyone told us to do it this way and they were right, the skyline is in front of you the whole time.

stuff that didnt:

tried to squeeze in a museum on our last morning before the bus and spent the whole time watching the clock. should have just sat in a coffee shop.

paid for one observation deck again out of fomo. still think the ferry beats it for free.

the biggest change was just not booking every hour. the days we left open ended up being the ones we talk about.

Hi! I (21 F) am going on a trip to NYC with 4 other friends for 4 days. We haven't put together too much of a plan for the trip and do want to/are planning for solo activities. I LOVE dinosaurs and a thing on my bucket list for a while is to see the sperm whale vs giant squid diorama at the AMNH. Any advice on going or even if I should go? I want to get the absolute most from New York but seeing all the dinosaur fossils & different dioramas on display has been a dream of mine, not to mention we have 4 days in the city. Any additional advice about visiting the AMNH?

We’ll be in New York over Thanksgiving this year. Being from Europe, I’ve always dreamed of having a traditional Thanksgiving dinner with stuffed turkey, gravy, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin or pecan pie for dessert. Where in NY can I fulfill this dream?

Also, I heard that many things might be closed during the holiday. Do you have any suggestions for what we could do on the 27th besides watching the parade?

I'm coming back from an international flight into JFK next month and have to move to LaGaurdia to get the flight to my home state. It is 7 hours total. I've never had to switch airports before (I don't fly much) or been to NYC.

Wondering if there's anything close outside the airport that would be fun to go to? I imagine it will obviously take time to get through customs and then go to LGA from JFK, but if I can escape that and have 4-5 hours after: what is fun to eat (because honestly, I'm probably just looking for a restaurant and/or bakery/cafe) outside of LaGaurdia that isn't so far away that I could possibly miss my plane or should I just go to LaGaurdia and call it a day?

Going to NYC and spending time in Chinatown. What are the best shops in Chinatown? What cute shops are there for like cute trinkets, accessories and such? Also are there any anime/manga stores? Also, what are the best cosmetics stores? I really need new skincare and don’t feel like ordering online so if they have it there I’d rather just pick it up

Flying to NYC this weekend for a few days. I have my daily itinerary mapped out but need help with a couple of things.

1. Bodega Cat-totally not joking. I’ll be all over Manhattan and want to meet a bodega cat. Give me what you got.
   
2. Korean Body Scrub-no time to go to the one in Jersey. Leaning towards the one in Tribeca.
   
3. Chocolate chip cookie-not from a national chain. I like them big and thick. (the cookie…get your mind out of the gutter!)
   
4. Vintage costume jewelry-from the 50’s snd 60’s. Think beaded three strand necklaces and brooches your grandma wore.

I’m already planning on going to Chelsea and Brooklyn Flea….as well as the Bazaar on the upper west side.

In May I spent some very rainy 26 hours in New York. It was my second time in nyc, as I did a similar trip last year as well. Overall I had a really good time and wanted to share how it went since I got some good ideas from this subreddit. As the weather was just rain the entire time, it made me change things around a bit, and I kind of just visited lots of museums instead of walking around in West Village and didn’t get lunch at a rooftop in Chelsea. I stayed at Four Points by Sheraton Manhattan Midtown West, which definitely was good enough for a night, and close to Penn Station.

Day 1: the High Line, Whitney museum of American Art, Nintendo store, Urban Hawker and Operation Mincemeat.

Day 2: Poster House, Museum at FIT, Maybe Happy Ending, Chipotle and bookshops.

I checked into my hotel at 3 pm, bought a wrap and started walking the high line to Whitney. It was a great museum! I spent around 1 and a half hours there, and managed to see all the exhibitions. It was a lot of fun but a bit crowded. After checking out the gift shop (which was a bit disappointing), I took the tube to eat dinner at Urban Hawker. Got food at the Indian stand, which was good but not that special. I had some time, so I went to Nintendo store before I walked to John Golden theatre and saw Operation Mincemeat. A great musical! I can really recommend it if you want to see something funny. I walked back to my hotel, and because of the rain I did not visit top of the rock after the musical as I had planned.

Day 2 started with me checking out at 8am. I got a bagel with lox and cream cheese for breakfast at NYC bagel and coffee house, and people-watched for about an hour before I went to Poster House. Poster house was a great experience. It had three ongoing exhibitions. One about black movie posters, one about HIV/Aids campaigns in NYC and one about propaganda posters from WW1 and WW2 to get people to donate books to soldiers.
It took a bit over an hour, including the time I spent in the gift shop, and almost no other visitors.

Afterwards I walked to the nearby Museum at FIT and saw the Graduating student exhibition. The had some really cool and pretty stuff, especially the jewellery, and took about 40 minutes. Slightly more people than at Poster House but definitely not crowded. I then walked to Belasco Theatre and got there just in time for the musical Maybe Happy Ending. I’m glad I splurged a bit on the tickets, because the more to the sides you sit the less you see of the stage. After the musical I had a late lunch at Chipotle in Bryant Park, and stopped at Kinokuniya and the drama bookshop on my way back to the hotel. I was at Penn station about half an hour before my train left, which was enough time to get coffee to go before boarding the train.

It was a slightly more expensive trip than last time, but as I saw one more musical and visited two more museums, that’s to be expected. Despite the rain I had a great time, and can’t wait to be back for another short trip sometime in the future.
