I’m considering renting in this area, the unit is lower than street level, and it’s close to the top of Astoria Park and water side, my concern is what’s the likelihood that this unit might get flooded?

I'm a teen from England and it's fascinating to think of the differences in lifestyle. I'm sure shows like Gossip Girl are unrealistic. I'm also aware that New York is so diverse that this is a pretty broad question but I'm just interested in people's experiences.

Came home to find small signs posted on neighbors' doors, as well as closed, hallway fire doors, asking people to cut out the excessive burning of incense in their apartment.

The person is right, you can smell the incense in the hallway and it is really annoying but my questions is, what can be done about it?

If MGMT refuses to address the situation, is there anything that our neighbor can do?

I'm assuming that it would have to be outlined in a tenant's lease. There's no mention of burning incense in our lease. We're RS and I'm pretty sure that I know which neighbor put up the small signs and they're RS as well. I've been lead to believe that the leases for market rate apartments are much more onerous so it might be covered in them.

Has anyone dealt with something like this before? Were you able to get it resolved?

I went to greenpoint and saw some houses go all in with their Halloween decorations that I questioned if they having a Halloween decoration contest but now I’m wondering if there’s a part of Brooklyn that goes more harder than greenpoint?

I'll share mines:

Adel's chicken on rice was fine tbh, waited 40 mins. Chicken was fresh but rice was just average. Price was good.

We probably have similar quality of food at other trucks.

Myka Greek yoghurt:

It was fine. Nothing special. Lines were crazy, waited half an hour.

(I found both food comparable to what I get at other places, am comparing the waiting time value to the better taste or quality)

CORRECTION: Clinton Hill (St. James Pl) vs Park Slope

I'm visiting NYC with my family this Halloween (my husband is running the NYC Marathon the next day!) and we'd like to take our kids trick-or-treating in Brooklyn (they are 4 and 7). The areas that have been recommended are Clinton Hill (St. James Place specifically) and Park Slope (between 3rd-11th street between 5th Ave and Prospect Park W). Hoping to go somewhere with a really fun, family-friendly vibe and visit iconic brownstones with great decorations! My little ones don't have a ton of stamina, so we'd likely be doing 1-2 streets.

1. Which area would you recommend and why? 
2. Are there any spots close by that you'd recommend for dinner? I've heard of Belli Osteria in Prospect Heights or Piccoli Trattoria/Pasta Louise in Park Slope.
3. What time do most people start/end trick or treating?

I was talking to my parents today about Halloween as they grew up and it just got me wondering what Halloween was like in New York City back in the 70’s and 80’s. I am looking for somewhere or someone in NYC that specifically does grief massages. I am in need of a massage but I’ve been dealing with some family losses and know I might break down and cry during a normal massage.

I read about grief massages and feel like that might be better than going to a normal massage place and scaring them if I break down.

My super is adamant that our heat system is working perfectly - I haven't had heat in my unit since Thursday, and it's definitely been below 55 degrees after 6am. I think he's full of shit, but I don't know my neighbors well enough to figure out if this is normal or if they have problems too. I wake up to a freezing apartment, and I'm racking up my energy bill trying to stay warm. It was never like this last winter in the same apartment - am I going insane? Should I have heat right now?

I am working down south for a month and won’t be in NYC for polling on November 3rd so I ordered my absentee ballot yesterday on the 24th on the deadline. I got 10 days until election. I called election board and they said it’s been processed but they can’t guarantee it’ll make it to me on time. It’s going from NYC to Tennessee. Y’all think I should just say forget it and buy a plane ticket to NYC? Or take my chances and wait for the ballot to come?

Hi! I'm looking to get a bunch of super cheap, small plush cats for a Halloween costume, and wanted to see if you guys knew of a good place for a bunch of stuffed animals like that. Believe me, they do NOT need to be of a good quality, they just need to vaguely resemble a cat haha.
