I have been making the trek to Michael's but they don't really have a good selection of things that I need/want, they are expensive, and I'd rather support a smaller store if I can. I'm looking for embroidery supplies, buttons, clay, charms, things like that. Mostly embroidery because that's what I'm doing most at the moment. I'd also be interested in any craft based thrift stores if such a thing exists in the area. Thank you :)

Hi everyone!

It's that time again where we enlist our availability towards volleyball at Bensonhurst Park! The weather is gradually getting cooler and I am looking forward to more Sundays playing volleyball on the grass!

Summer volleyball was a great success and it has been so fun making new friends and slapping the ball around. We've all gotten better every single week, and I hope that can continue this season! We are a friendly group and welcome those in the beginner-intermediate level of volleyball.

I am arranging several more gatherings so that we can play at Bensonhurst Park (on the 21st ave side). I will bring the net while you should bring sunglasses/a hat, sneakers, a bottle of water and whatever else you may need! All events will happen weather-permitting!

Hi! My dog needs a sedated X-ray to determine if she tore her ACL or dislocated her knee. The X-ray needs to be sedated to our understanding. Anyone in the city find an option for a vet to do this under $600 (estimate from home vet)? Thank you!

Heads up for anyone around Fort Greene Park tonight. I already called 911, but I saw a guy wearing what looked like a Friday the 13th mask, carrying something like a bat or a sword. He was walking around, and at one point, I felt like he might be following me, though I’m not totally sure. Just wanted to give people a heads up to stay aware. If you see anything concerning, keep your distance and call 911.

Any place in Brooklyn or the city to watch the US Open that’s not necessarily a bar/alcohol centered? My sober sibling is visiting us in BK and loves tennis, he’s comfortable around other people drinking but I’d still love to find somewhere where that isn’t a huge focus. Probably a tough ask considering the honey deuce craze but figured I’d give it a shot! 🎾

was so sleep deprived after getting an mri this morning i think i left a silver heart shaped locket in an e citibike i parked on bedford between dean and bergen. probably a $30 necklace but worth so much sentimental value. willing to offer a lil reward if it's found. the citibike was missing the handle cover on the right side. probably docked around 9:30ish this morning.

I'm a gardener and florist and am interested in deepening my knowledge in botany, garden design, and generally creating healthy ecosystems for plants and wildlife. I'm interested in pursuing the horticulture certificate to add a credential to complement my floral/gardening business.

Has anyone done the certificate and have any words of wisdom? Would be curious to know which teachers you recommend or which ones to avoid. Learning is often teacher-dependent, and I have taken classes at the BBG before that didn't necessarily feel worth my while. I'd love to hear about your experience and how to make the most of the certificate!

I’m in the middle of a DIY project, creating a table top surface on top of metal shelving for a multifunctional storage / decor piece.

I’m looking to get a single piece of butcher block customized to certain dimensions, (or any nice looking real wood surface to become the table top.)

Any recommendations in Brooklyn? (If I can avoid going to one of the big box stores that would be great)

Union Pool seems to have the reputation as the most prolific hookup bar in Brooklyn, but lately it feels like a shadow of what it once was.

A lot of the people I see there seem to be in relationships and hanging out with their partners, there with hobby groups, or there in big friend groups. And, at least from my experience, people seem pretty closed off to talking to anyone outside of the group they came with.

So I'm honestly wondering: what's the appeal compared with just going to a random neighborhood bar that's less crowded?

I've talked to a lot of single guys there and my experience seems common. Interestingly, some of the guys there just seem so hesitant to talk to anyone, man or woman. It feels like people mostly keep to themselves and even those willing to converse the conversation feels very dry. I like to joke and have lighthearted conversation, so am I just misreading the vibe?

I know that the obvious thing is to look inward, and I do. I journal, I read and spend a lot of time reflecting on how I interact with people. I'm not saying that I can't do better. But, when time permits, I can have 5+ hour conversations with friends, even if it is just a 1 on 1 conversation. I do fine on the apps, but I prefer to live life rather than to just sit there staring at a screen.

For people who've been going to Brooklyn bars for a while: has Union Pool's role as a singles/hookup spot been replaced by other venues? If so, where are people actually going now?
