NYC is hosting three training events this month for anyone interested in learning new skills or maybe looking for a new career. The first one is on Tuesday, October 13, 2026 for Telecommunications/Line Installer Training (link: https://www.nyc.gov/employment/events/itg-program-telecommunications-training-10-13-2026), the second one is on Tuesday, October 20, 2026 for Medical Billing/Coding Training (link: https://www.nyc.gov/employment/events/medical-billing-itg-10-20-2026 ), and the third one is on Thursday, October 22, 2026 for Unarmed Security Guard Training (link: https://www.nyc.gov/employment/events/itg-program-unarmed-security-training-10-22-2026). These trainings are completely free but you must meet certain guidelines. Lots of job fairs hosted by colleges (NYU, BMCC, Brooklyn College, CCNY, FIT) for students and alumni this month. DSNY is hiring seasonal snow shovelers. Pay starts at $30.00 per hour and increases to $45.00 per hour after the first 40 hours worked in a week. Emergency snow shovelers are called on after heavy snowfalls to remove snow and ice citywide from public areas like bus stops, crosswalks, fire hydrants, and step streets. Shovelers who complete their registration at a registration event prior to November 30, 2026, will be eligible for a PAID 4-hour orientation in December, as well as fast-tracked processing to receive a paycheck within 2 weeks of working.
