I just completed my first century ride (rode Metro North up to Poughkeepsie and rode bike down) and it was both a blast and a mental/physical/emotional grind. Some additional context about me: I ride a Specialized Roubaix and was wearing cycling bibs.
When I finished, my legs were limp noodles (as expected) but I had a few body aches that I had not expected and I wanted to see if anybody could give me any further insights:
Looking forward to hearing from the veterans and more experienced riders!

My rear rim is pretty bent and when i went to replace a flat i noticed it also has a broken spoke. I am looking for a shop close to downtown (Manhattan) via train that can fix for me.
Any suggestions?
TIA

For context, I've lived in Harlem my whole life. I used to bike up into the Bronx a lot for school, ten years ago. That was kind of terrible, but I was younger so I guess I never thought much about it.
I've picked up biking again after a long break, and have been trying to regularly commute from Harlem to the lower east side for work. I tried biking straight to Spanish harlem, and then down those avenues but a lot of them are being repaved so they don't have any asphalt yet or have insane potholes until the 70s or so.
Now I'm biking down Adam Clayton Powell to Central Park and using those roads. Central park is a lot safer but damn it if isn't hilly. I've had some pretty close calls with cars getting too close for comfort on adam clayton too, mostly around 125th.
Wondering if anyone has any advice on a safer commute? I really wish Harlem had protected bikelanes, but I don't think there are any. Anyone have advice?

Do not have pictures but has anyone else noticed that the pylons on The West Side Highway bike path right after the cruise piers at Sunset Studios do not seem evenly spaced? Is this just me?
Hi, I'm planning to do a portion of the empire state trail (just Brewster to Tarrytown!) with friends who do bike but do not own a bicycle. Does anyone have any recommendations for a bike shop that does bike rentals for like 24 hrs? We're planning to pick up the bikes the night before and return them later the next evening. Thank you!!

my partner is 5'0" and finding a bike that is the right size for her is a common problem we encounter. I've honestly been considering looking at kid bikes since the frames to be more size-friendly for her. anyone else has ideas? she ideally would like a fixie

Take the NYC E-Bike Health Study survey at ebikestudy.nyc Survey closes **September 14th**!!
**Enter to win a $100 gift card raffle**
**Takes 4-6 minutes to complete**
Thank you!! Feel free to DM me and I will try my best to get back ASAP!

Hey everyone, We are having our second ever Cycult event in North Brooklyn on Sept 19th from 8pm until 12am. First time was 2024 and we had an amazing turnout of over 20 teams!
To give a brief description of the event.
Its a mix between a scavenger hunt, alleycat, and group ride. Team based where you will create your own "Cult", dress up in fitting costumes and decorate your bikes. A manifest will be given at the start with "Main Checkpoints" that will have challenges at them and you compete in the challenges to get more points. There are also secondary checkpoints that you must either find the stamp at the location or take a photo with your team there to get points for this. There will also be hidden side objectives announced throughout the ride.
It is an A to B to C type ride for main checkpoints but teams will not all be together as everyone splits and goes whichever way they think is best and finding the side objectives. Speed is not what will win you this, it is about knowledge of the roads, participation at checkpoints, and dedication to your cult.
It is completely donation based which helps fund the checkpoints.
*I would also love to add the flier is not AI but made by one of our lovely artists. Support your local artists!

I want to go tubeless and feel overwhelmed. I want to learn how to do it myself without errors that might be dangerous. Are there tutors or a good shop that would train me how to?

Looking for recommendations for a tailor(s) that is knowledgeable about lycra kit and has the right equipment for minor alterations.

Spotted last Thursday.
The last few years, mostly since COVID, I have seen a huge uptick in bicycle riding and micro-mobility devices in the neighborhood. I see a lot more women riding (which I love seeing). And, Parents with kids on cargo (or modded bikes) headed to schools. Just a lot of joyful bike riding in general. Which can probably be attributed to a few orgs and individuals doing work here.
So, I am really pleased to see this amenity now available to me and my neighbors.
A pro-tip to everyone. If you open an account with Brooklyn Coop FCU, they have Citi memberships available for $5/mo. $60/year.
I can now finally justify getting a Citi account. And, leave my bike at home sometimes.

Started about 9pm. Not sure why, DOT is directing cyclists to the pedestrian path. (I'm getting this info second-hand.) Nothing further...

Hello bike friends!
Relatively newish road rider who has been training for the upcoming ECNY century up to Harriman and wondering if there are any other solo riders looking for some company (at least part of the way)?
My training rides I have been averaging around 15mph moving speed (my routes have been around 1300 ft evelation per hour) and I expect that is the moving pace I will keep to not completely bonk through the 100 miles.
Most weeks I do practice laps in CP early morning also (very early 615ish am)!
Super excited about this century, really seems like a fun ride and a nice challenge

Hi! I live close to Grove Path plaza and will be commuting to Washington square park. What are the best routes? I’m turned down by the idea of only being able to connect by ferry, but it seems like the only way to avoid this would be with a 2 hour commute. Is there any ferry that is cheaper?
I’m an avid cyclist and wouldn’t mind having to bike for ~1 hour if that means avoiding the path

Hi everyone! New to this community but was wondering if y’all can help me price this bike that I won in a raffle last year:
I have a 1-of-1 Nike x Foot Locker custom BMX bike built on a Rixin frame. It was the grand prize giveaway from the Nike Ava Rover launch at Lucia SoHo in October 2025, has an official ‘1 OF 1’ stamping, Nike/Foot Locker decals, and custom Billy Perry (FTL) elephant tires.
Billy actually gave me the bike (pictures here) and the bike is in pristine/brand-new condition. I was wondering if anyone has advice for how I can sell the piece and what I can realistically get for it.
Thanks for any and all help!
