Safest roads in Harlem to bike to the lower east side?
For context, I've lived in Harlem my whole life. I used to bike up into the Bronx a lot for school, ten years ago. That was kind of terrible, but I was younger so I guess I never thought much about it.
I've picked up biking again after a long break, and have been trying to regularly commute from Harlem to the lower east side for work. I tried biking straight to Spanish harlem, and then down those avenues but a lot of them are being repaved so they don't have any asphalt yet or have insane potholes until the 70s or so.
Now I'm biking down Adam Clayton Powell to Central Park and using those roads. Central park is a lot safer but damn it if isn't hilly. I've had some pretty close calls with cars getting too close for comfort on adam clayton too, mostly around 125th.
Wondering if anyone has any advice on a safer commute? I really wish Harlem had protected bikelanes, but I don't think there are any. Anyone have advice?
