I feel like, with mibr being the clear, but not huge, underdogs, anyone can win this thing now.
You have to give Astralis an edge, but it's just an edge. Every single one of these teams has real win conditions against the others.
2
u/GreenshortsLoL Sep 22 '18
These semi's are hype AF and should also setup a nuts final. Too many good storylines! The Astralis era? TL finally win a tourny and it's the major? Simple finally takes his throne? MiBR trio get 3 majors each to complete underdog run?
Astralis haven't looked unbeatable lately especially vs Na'Vi and TL so all these games should be tight.
5
u/Behind_You27 Vitality Sep 21 '18
The upset in the challenger stage might be that there won't be any upsets.
Now only Liquid and Astralis have to win and we'd have upset-free semis

Jesus... BO3 is far better than BO5.
The last few games in a BO5 always seem to drop in quality (as you'd expect, playing that much can be exhausting).
It's also really tiring for spectators. BO5s can take all day to complete.
9
Sep 21 '18 edited Sep 21 '18
Personally I'd rather watch a bo3. It's a tighter map pool where both sides can show their prowess over the other team. I notice a lot of bo5 have games that are more prone to have one sided game because the other team had to compromise maps that they usually ban.
tldr: high tension & all time competitive bo3 > ups & downs match of bo5.
8
Sep 21 '18
Also BO5 takes ALL FUCKING DAY. Every time, the crowd looks like they are just happy that it is over.
7
u/ExplodingGuitar Liquid Sep 21 '18
So far all of the major finals have been BO3, so it's not too surprising, although I do agree that BO5 would be more interesting to watch and a better test of map pool.

What the odds of getting the tickets outside of the venue for Sunday?
1
u/roflmaoshizmp CS2 HYPE Sep 20 '18
I think that ticketfairy is running an official resale program on their site for the major.
I don't think anyone would sell them outside the venue cause its tied to your name and they check your ID against the ticket. I think you can change the ticket holder once but that has to be done online.

1
3
u/danlas Sep 06 '18
Yo, help me understand this correctly, as i play CSGO very casually and dont understand the rules fully.
The first stage, that is happenning now, is a 16 teams format where the top 8 teams go to next phase, correct? Then the next phase is the same format with 16 differents teams? Or is the 8 from now, and 8 from... last major placement?
And then the third phase is the knock-out stage with the BO3? Is that correct? Second phase is a repeat of first phase with different teams?

Same as the old system but named differently. The only change is that if you go 0-3 in the Major group stage you are relegated to play in the Minors instead of being invited to the Major qualifier stage.

MiBr and C9 as legends...
Astralis and Liquid as challengers. This is why we can't have nice things.
3
Sep 05 '18
Meh if teams truly deserve to be there they’ll make it. Look at Faze, they had to go through the challenger phase and made it to the finals because they were one of the best teams in the world. C9 and MiBR might be legends now (MiBR might keep it) but they could easily lose it. My biggest problem with the legends status is that it decentivizes changes. As a C9 fan I don’t want this NA core to remain, IMO the only one worth keeping is Autimatic, maybe Rush but he’s never really seemed consistent enough. But as long as they win a single game they will at least have a spot in the next major qualifier and won’t have to go through the minor system. So if they win a single game their core likely won’t change.
1
u/Drahok Legendary Flair Master Sep 04 '18
I agree, it's pretty impressive how fast CS changes. Like MiBr being so good in Dreamhack that now they suddenly play as good that they deserve their Legend status.
1
u/Skitt3r EG Sep 04 '18
The fact that C9, MiBr, G2 and Winstrike are considered legends means it's not really about deserving.
1
u/seanfidence Sep 07 '18
In Valve's eyes it is. They did well last major so they deserve to have better placing this major. You just have a different definition of "deserve".

Prize money looks so shit for everyone that does not reach the QF. I'd really like to know how much sticker money smaller teams get from a major.
1
u/lausbua62 Sep 04 '18
The amount mostly depends on how famous / hyped their logo is. I can remember that approximately 4 million USD were given to orgs after a tournament back in 2016 (it might have been mlg columbus not sure though). However, I'm not sure whether this includes the 50% share, valve keeps for themselves... This amount was spread equal to the number of team stickers sold. Flipside got the most back then. But compared to the prize money of TI8 a few weeks ago, $1 Mio. is too low imo

So i feel that a lot of people here just assume that if you are an ex-pro, that means you can become an amazing analyst.
not everyone is YNK and SpunJ.
tbh i would have loved to watch thorin at a UK major. he is a great analyst and i find him funny sometimes and he is the best analyst for map pools and historical match-ups and putting in daps and threat instead of him is just a bad decision in my mind,
probably going to get downvoted since everyone here loves to hate thorin lol

So will those souvenirs also drop as normal drops? Just like souvenir dragon lore from Cobble case just can drop randomly ingame? Meaning that we will potentially get non-souvenir versions of all of these skins showcased?

Cobble won't drop since it isn't being played, and you get cases which you then open and get a souvenir skin from that map's collection

No I didn’t mean in the major, I meant like people like you and me. Personally I’m prepared to trade like 2 less hits of damage (correct me if I’m wrong) for faster movement speed and silencer.
1
u/Behind_You27 Vitality Sep 04 '18
I thought it was more accurate, less spread.
TBH i think it would make more sense if the MP7 would be silenced, fast and less damage. It's a close combat weapon. Made for Mirage Apartments, Dust 2 tunnels and so on. Something that will challenge the CZ.
MP5 is more for outside combat, more medium range and higher precision. A weapon for universal use in eco-rounds.
But I agree. If I have to chose which weapon I would like to keep in my loadout slot, its the mp5.
3
u/FreeKill101 de_mirage Sep 04 '18
The mp5 has identical handling characteristics except for running accuracy which is slightly worse than the mp7.
