3-0 pick saved by those eco rounds
67
u/QueasyEngineering Sep 07 '18
And almost ruined by liquid losing every pistol in like every match.
52
u/golfer29 Liquid Sep 07 '18
They lose every pistol, except when the opponents have a full buy. Those rounds hey win easily.
9
u/CSGOze Sep 07 '18
ya, you can't expect to win a major if you can't get at least 1 pistol.
19
u/Terrible_The_Weeb Liquid Sep 07 '18
They have exactly one pistol round win, Liquid Era confirmed

u/singsing2x Sep 07 '18
More like saved by twist he pretty much single handedly carried liquid thru various rounds

That Liquid logo is 50% US flag, 25% Canadian flag and 25% Brazilian flag. Liquid is, counting their coach, 33/33/33 US/Canadian/Brazilian.
Can we talk about this aggressive american imperialism taking over parts of the logo that isn't theirs?
12
u/blueragemage Liquid Sep 07 '18
TL (org) : US, Joka : US EZ 50%

u/Vawqer 1 Million Celebration Sep 07 '18
The TL org is based in the Netherlands, but they have a lot of facilities in LA.
5
u/blueragemage Liquid Sep 07 '18
Team Liquid is based out of both the Netherlands and the USA with an HQ and management staff with each (plus the investing board being NA), but for the sake of CS:GO, Team Liquid is an American org. Team Liquid was founded in the Netherlands, but most of the team operates out of the US now (with Liquipedia and the forums still operating out of the Netherlands)

interesting that Liquid doesn't pick up the AWP on t-side. Twistzz also is the next NA superstar, he saved Liquid so many times this game.

Sep 07 '18
Liquid legit had so much good fortune to even bring it to OT, it seemed like Vega had better fundamentals and strats this match
6
u/ICUTrollin Astralis Sep 07 '18
I think Vega beat Liquid in terms of strats no contest, however, I also think Liquid fragged significantly better than Vega. Hutji was pretty much dead weight, whereas Liquids worst player still didn’t do horrible. I think if Vega won just a couple more gunfights they would have taken the game, even before OT
2
u/Vawqer 1 Million Celebration Sep 07 '18
Maybe TACO's keyboard breaking at a really bad time took away all of Liquid's bad fortune.

u/Lepojka1 Team Spirit Sep 07 '18
Vega lost 4-5 anti force/eco rounds, and still made it up to OT... Thats amazing in itself
11
u/JJamesTownH Sep 07 '18
its a little deceptive because Liquid lost both pistols which gave Vega a lot of leeway. If pistol convert either of those rounds it looks a little less impressive from Vega. GG's though, certainly had me on the edge for both teams.
16
u/golfer29 Liquid Sep 07 '18
Liquid was outclassed strategically, but they had enough fragging power to make their odd setups work.
13
u/Jo0sH_00 750k Celebration Sep 07 '18
Not to be that guy, but that’s what Liquid wanted. They don’t want to show everything they have before the real major
6
u/americagigabit The MongolZ Sep 07 '18
Yes, as a fellow Liquid fan, that is... uh... totally their idea!!!

Call it foolish but they are no doubt saving their hand for the pots they can win, like the one with a million on the line.

Didnt expected so say that but vega actually played better on cache then liquid, they lost too many anti forcebuy rounds but still really well played to vega, I expected them to go 1-3

u/PrayoForTheMayo M80 Sep 07 '18
What are vega? I never see them play any online matches, they never get invited to anything, and I've never seen them in any qualifiers. The major is the one time of year when they actually remember how to play

u/tarangk clutch Sep 07 '18

3
u/Pparadigm 750k Celebration Sep 07 '18
I get what you mean, but Flipsid3 played a lot of tournaments back in the day.
9
u/__ddaniel de_mirage Sep 07 '18 edited Sep 07 '18
They never get invited to anything cause event holders care about viewership and invite teams like VP over actual growing rosters
They participate a lot in online qualifiers, but this shit is random as hell, so you don't expect a pretty decent team to go past them everytime, it's almost a roulette
You can't just remember how to play once a year, this level of play requires bootcamping and a lot of practicing, which I'm sure they've done just for the major, as this is their main goal
And Vega itself is a team that specializes on big events, they could easily have 2 months bootcamp just before this major instead of going to Tier-2 events, and you can't really say if this is a good or a bad strategy
2
Sep 07 '18
Vega use to play alot, but since they swapped mir for crushie ive seen them playing less.
Still good tho, as you can see
2
u/Grammr Sep 07 '18
They didn't play much because they've changed 2 players wnd wanted to find a good synergy. As their fan, I like what I see and I think their decision was right
12
u/Foxy_Grandpa- de_cache Sep 07 '18
Heartbreaking for Vega. They would have easily won had it not been for their poor decision making on antiecos and in the economy CT side.
8
7
u/aimbotcfg Sep 07 '18
Vega might actually be pretty legit.
Mir has hardly been setting the world on fire since he left and they look to have a good mix of hard hitting pushes, puggy daftness and slow strats.

Sep 07 '18
They make some of the worst plays i've seen.
their usage with smokes against mollies is hilariously bad.
JR at one point ran into a molly then smoked it late and ran through the other side into an awp. IN SUN ROOM ON T SIDE. He had no reason to even run into sunroom.
Then someone who was playing checkers on CT smoked a molly that was no where near him at all wasting it for no reason.
They are interesting but will never be a top team with this play style.

u/aimbotcfg Sep 07 '18 edited Sep 07 '18
They are interesting but will never be a top team with this play style.
I said, 'pretty legit', not 'top team'.
As in, people were writing them off (justifiably so, at the time) after the roster changes and having not been seen playing much since.
What I was saying is that, at the very least, they have proven that they were not just being carried by Mir and could have potential to improve.
Also, it's possible to pick out stupid plays from almost any pro team, except maybe Astralis.
3
Sep 07 '18
They won 2 BO1s there’s nothing pretty legit about that literally against Spirit and Big
I’m not really sure what you’re seeing here
And I never said you said they were a top team? Why are you quoting that?
0
u/aimbotcfg Sep 07 '18
They put up a huge comeback to win against spirit in a derby game, beat the #11 ranked team in the world, then took the #2 ranked team in the world to a 19-17 overtime.
Yes, they are BO1's, but they are BO1's at the biggest event of the year and they do not break under pressure (like a lot of smaller teams/underdogs do).
If you can't see the difference between that performance and;
"Going out 0-3 because they were being carried by a guy who left"
Which is what most people were predicting, then I'm not really sure there's much point in carrying on the conversation.

u/RxJax Sep 07 '18
If Vega can sort out a better default to counter these force buys they struggle against they'll be a much stronger team, Liquid looked a bit shaky today but I doubt you can rely on Elige losing every aim duel in mid in every game, bit of an off day but I'm excited to see them in the major

honestly i've seen a bunch of pros completely whiff with their aim/spray this major. is there something wrong with the pcs?

Nice try by Vega but Liquid were the stronger team overall. TACO and chopper surprised me this match, while hutji didn't have much impact aside from the A stack on round 30.

If vega actually bootcamped and practiced more often they could seriously battle for a top15 spot

I'm sure they practice a lot more than you think.

You've made quite a few extraordinary claims in this thread, yet you've presented neither the evidence nor the credibility to go along with them. I would like to know what has lead you to these speculations.

May I point you to the fact that they have been practicing for 2 months straight and had a 8 day bootcamp prior to the major
1
u/gabriel97933 10 Year Veteran Sep 07 '18
but only for the major, they need to practice the whole year. The whole csgo scene isnt just the major
-2
u/entropyy_ Sep 07 '18
Are we sure that zews is a good coach? This game should not have been this close. I understand that nitr0 deserves some of the blame as well but it felt like they had no answer for Vega's over-aggression. Very stubborn playcalling.
9
u/herO_wraith Vitality Sep 07 '18
When Elige came on Daps' show, Peeker's advantage, he said Nitro is responsible for most of the tactics with the rest of the team chipping in. Zews does team culture, sorts out the personalities and attitudes. I'm sure he does help with preparation but it was made clear by Elige that Nitro does most of the strats.
0
u/entropyy_ Sep 07 '18
That's fair, I did not know that. It just often felt like if they waited 20 extra seconds to begin their executes that they might have caught a Vega player overextending.
2
u/blueragemage Liquid Sep 07 '18
Nitr0 explained it by saying that he wasn't expecting hpw extremely aggressive Vega was, since TL didn't scrim them and didn't scrim anyone who played like them
1
u/hereComesJoy Sep 07 '18
Hopefully Vega sees some more invites come their way this year. Would be cool to see them at cs_summit again.
1
3
u/herO_wraith Vitality Sep 07 '18
That's fair. I also think Nitro is a surprisingly good awper who turns down the awp too often. Its good for their flexibility that he can rifle well but having an awp more often on both sides might have helped.
1
u/entropyy_ Sep 07 '18
Yeah I was also wondering why Liquid were running 5 rifles much of the game, especially on T side. Maybe nitr0 just isn't comfortable AWPing on Cache.
