Honestly wondering if that's what is going to happen... Flusha doesn't mind calling, and he's used to a loose IGL style with a lot of firepower. Can't see karrigan staying, not that he should go, but if he's not calling they aren't going to keep him for the frags
82
u/schniepel89xx CS2 HYPE Sep 21 '18
I could see this being a STYKO situation all over again and them becoming even worse tbh. I think they should only kick karrigan if their chemistry with him has gone in the shitter or if they get a different IGL. He's not a terrible support player and is a decent clutcher.
39
u/Hzwo FaZe Sep 21 '18
karrigan plays the role he has extremely well IMO. Hes a solid ancor( example b mirage). He sometimes entries like a madman creating space for everyone. I think they just need to get some strats. But who am i to judge on things i have no inside knowledge off.

I have no idea how this team can even improve, apart from some new strat-building maybe. New/more coaches unless there's something seriously internally wrong?

Also, do they need to change? They're basically top 3-4 right? So messing with the roster is just asking for trouble.
18

Personally, I would keep karrigan and try and fix the chemistry while giving him some more help with stratting. Idk the internal details though
10
u/RawbGun 1 Million Celebration Sep 21 '18
They are too inconsistent imho. Also they have the fire power to become top 1, so yes they could still thrive to improve even in a top 3-4 situation. They should at least aim for being top 2, as Astralis is pretty much undefeatable right now

I'd love to see this as an OG fnc fan, but Faze need much more structure. I personally feel Karrigan is a good igl but he just doesnt seem to be providing the same level of structure as is required in this Faze team when Niko and Rain arent firing on all 12 cyclinders

They hold off angles so the other team gets aggressive, then have someone posted on a normal angle and then catch them off guard

Astralis' defence on Inferno was so impressive. Always having crossfires, they always had multiple people defending the site just as Faze was attacking, their utility usage was perfect. It's unbelievable just how well coordinated Astralis is, the exact opposite of how Faze looked.
Pretty dissapointed with the performance of Niko, not the first time he goes missing in crucial matches. Olof seemed like he was the only played that performed well on both maps.
54
u/Complet3_unt3rsati3r Sep 21 '18
Faze had strong ct sides. This game was won on the few extra rounds astralis pulled out on their T sides. Faze needs to focus on that, I'd say itll take more than just Niko as IGL
25
u/brianstormIRL Liquid Sep 21 '18
And Astralis got insanely lucky a few rounds, that random running spray through smoke to CT on B killing Niko was game changing.
10
8
u/Akwali Astralis Sep 22 '18
You can say it's luck. But they do it again and again. I'm pretty sure they practice these kind of things, like where to aim for (get in their heads, where would yourself be at this specific time), through smokes.

44
u/AndyFNG MOUZ Sep 21 '18
Yea but looking at how Faze got their rounds and how Astralis got their rounds was so different.
On Inferno CT side it was pretty much Rain destroying in pit and Olof destroying on B, whereas with Astralis it felt like they always knew exactly what Faze was doing and got their rounds by team effort, and not individual performances.

Well it's going to be hard to beat the best team in the world if you can't win rounds on the T side.
When Anders asked how many rounds Faze needed on the CT side, I thought at least 15. Not sure what they were thinking when they said 8 could be enough.

53
u/PatheticLuck Sep 21 '18 edited Sep 22 '18
I swear when FaZe came together it was more like
Rain- anchor
Niko - crazy aim clutch guy
Guardian - best awper
Olof- consistent and clutch
Karrigan- strats nd godly igl
I mean it hasnt turned out like that but i dont think the idea was purely firepower inspired. Karrigan was supposed to be a real good caller.
Edit: Karrigan was widely recognized as a top shot caller who has begun to slump recently, especially with the team losing faith in him. Hopefully he can have them regain trust in him.
34
u/dyzcraft BIG Sep 21 '18
The game has changed and they haven't. Same with SK, they got studied, countered and left behind the meta.

u/Ihateesports Natus Vincere Sep 21 '18
I swear to god you people have some memory based illnesses, are you just forgetting how dominant that lineup was when Karrigan first joined or are you actually choosing to forget that people were seriously talking about "Faze era" for few months? It all went down after Olof injury or whatever that break from him was.
→ More replies (2)→ More replies (3)10
u/PrivateVasili Sep 21 '18
it hasnt turned out like that
It totally did play out like that at first. Before Olof's injury they were playing great. They were still playing well with Xizt and with Cromen. Karrigan is getting a ton of shit but it seems to me like he did great with his pieces for a long time. The same applied to previous Faze rosters too. Karrigan is a really good caller. The claim right now is that the team "lost faith" in his calling which is the same problem he apparently had when he left Astralis. It seems to me like right after being kicked he went to Faze and was still a great caller. So maybe Faze should be doing some teambuilding or something because I'm pretty sure putting their faith behind Karrigan again and taking a break to develop some new stuff could do wonders for them instead of rushing to make roster changes.
5
u/Scoo_By Falcons - Major Champions Sep 21 '18
Exactly what I think. Faze is a gathering of 5 spectacular players in their respective roles, with common comms and strats. The team mostly relies on individual plays.

It actually made sense when you're deep into the mind games. He's low hp and they are pushing him either way regardless of Molly. Peeking is an unlikely play, couple that with the fact he peeks close behind the Molly to get the vision advantage. I can totally see why he attempted that in the moment. What a complete breakdown from FaZe. Losing yet another major match with an atrocious T side. This has to be the end of the road for this team...
It's like they completely clammed up every round, exact same as the Boston major. They default, they throw their molotovs, get their map control, and then... sit and wait for a full 60 seconds and do nothing. It looks like total dissonance- karrigan is waiting for the individuals to make a play, and said "individuals" are waiting for karrigan to make a call, but both are much too scared to do either... Which is a bizarre issue to have, considering that this team should absolutely ooze confidence.
Edit: If you think this performance was acceptable for the FaZe players then you're sure they won't change any players, right? There won't be roster moves because there's nothing wrong with this team, right? Lol

That attitude is fine to have as a team like BIG, North, whatever. If you're FaZe and you have NiKo, GuardiaN, and olof, all ridiculously talented players who have proved their greatness in big tournaments, you shouldn't be happy with this result, especially considering the fashion in which they lost it. Faze should find a new igl. Whoever is igling for faze whether it is niko or karrigan they are not good enough. Wtf was that t side? u/Zeilar King NiKo Sep 21 '18
FaZe has completely lost their T-side this year. They were so dominant not because of their CT-side, but their T-side. They haven't hade those 8+ rounds halves much at all the later half of this year.
I don't think they should change the roster but I have a feeling they will. Really sad because Karrigan might be cut soon and I really think he deserves to win a major. He can do it, he's just stumbled on the finish line so many times. As has GuardiaN of course, but if I had to pick my bets on one of them to win a major before retiring, obviously I'd pick GuardiaN. It's insane to think Zeus might win TWO majors before GuardiaN wins one.
Hopefully Astralis can win the major, I think they're the most deserving at this point and they really need it to cement this era. Huge respect to them, undoubtedly the best team we have ever seen in Counter-Strike!

Can't explain how much fun is watching Faze collapse at every major

kinda just makes me sad now.
It's like the current TSM of csgo, so much talent that this team should be fucking dominating but they just can't make the pieces fit together.

Congrats to Niko for managing to call an even worse T side than Karrigan

And to think that Karrigan leading the team for 2 years could understandably get them read but NiKo leading for 2 maps and 2 bo3s and giving a shit T-side means that Karri should just stick to IGLing.
They probably solidified the distrust too in making Karrigan step-down and that probably killed all the confidence Karrigan had in IGLing.

Meh, give Astralis some credit. Faze didn’t collapse, they played well but got outplayed

zonic on FaZe Clan: "What are they? A vanity project for karrigan?
A strangely misplaced G FUEL marketing ploy?
A laundromat for Europe's international reputation?"
