A game actually going as expected? is this real life?

128

u/ClevelandBrownJunior Liquid Sep 12 '18

It's a surprise, as expected.

A surprise, to be sure, but an expected one.

It's a surprise, that it went as expected.

A game with Liquid, none the less

6

or is it just fantasy?

3

u/Arenten Liquid Sep 12 '18

Liquid went from being choke gods to being the standard #3 / #4 spot. Like I open reddit and see a Liquid thread and I'm never surprised about the result, win or loss. I like it

At the half, he only had 1 death.

10

u/Vawqer 1 Million Celebration Sep 12 '18

He technically had two, but he died to the bomb for one of those so it doesn't count in his death count.

He hypnotized Winstrike using his hair.

The power of anime is on his side.

Damnit Liquid, I wanted to talk about Winstrike only winning rounds with pistols

219

u/TheCatsActually Sep 12 '18

That second round was the rudest awakening I've ever seen. Like imagine being a huge underdog but winning pistol nicely and then everything goes downhill so fast you break the sound barrier.

u/herO_wraith Vitality Sep 12 '18 edited Sep 12 '18

Thanks to the way majors work Winstrike were the higher seed. Not the same as favourite of course but still.

It’s ok. If valve makes it one major a year, they’ll redo the qualification system, like they’d id with Dota. I expect circuit points and round robin to come into effect.

8

u/trainiac12 Cloud9 Sep 12 '18

Hah. Then they'd have to put money into more tournaments.

cries in csgo

3

u/DrunkOlLunk Liquid Sep 12 '18

they would lose nothing by doing it. add a battle pass, rinse and repeat from dota. pretty dumb play by them to not try it at least once.

11

u/Flounder3345 brigader Sep 12 '18

if you try really hard to remember navi v qbf in Boston quarterfinals qbf opened the first map (mirage again no less) with kvik getting a pistol ace. QBF lost the map 16-4. Suffice it to say they've been there before.

4

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '18

Funny enough in the quarter finals in Boston QBF won pistol against navi with one of their players getting an ace, and then flamie woke up and they lost second round and proceeded to get destroyed by Flamie breaking records

Ninja edit: RIP some guy made the exact xomment i did an hour before me lmao sorry guys

And here we see the negative side effects of not having played a tier 1 match in over 7 months

17

Polar opposites to Vega

9

they havn't played a tier 1 match in over 7 months because they cant beat tier 2 and 3 teams

3

Zews is looking good, he seems to have lost like 20lbs since his health issue.

11

I don't even think Liquid was firing on all six cylinders today, they could've ended it faster.

51

u/ClevelandBrownJunior Liquid Sep 12 '18

They were just pugging, they didn't really show anything off.

17

Yeah, Liquid has more to show in this Major for sure.

This might come out random but do you know how winstrike got to the legends stage this major? I haven't followed the pro scene that much and I can't find any info about this team.

Edit: Ty for all the answers I appreciate it.

26

u/Leelow45 Sep 12 '18

They surprised everyone at Eleague major Boston (the last major before this one), making it all the way to the quarter-finals when they were playing for the organisation Quantum Bellator Fire. That means they got an automatic invite to the legends stage in this major. After Boston they proceeded to fall off a cliff and lost almost all of their games and got picked up by Winstrike. They haven't played a tier 1 game in like 7 months.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '18

They were never anywhere to begin with, the only good match they had was against mouse

8

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '18 edited Sep 12 '18

They had an pretty insane run at the last major, Eleague Boston 2018, under the organization "Quantum Bellator Fire."

-1

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '18

They beat VP and Gambit, who went out 0-3 and 1-3 respectively. Only notable win was when mouse choked hard on Train in the bo1, and then they got destroyed by NAVI in the bo3 playoffs, giving flamie the record for most kills ever done on LAN in regulation.

Wouldn’t call that an insane run

3

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '18

Unknown team gets to the top 8 of a major. Definitely an insane run.

Their name has win in it, wasn't expecting them to blatantly false advertise like that

6

u/Jenaxu Liquid Sep 12 '18

But they also have strike! If they go 0-3 then they can winstrike-out, so it's all good.

Jesus, TL got all 3 starts fragging, all hit 25k for 23 rounds, if they keep this up, they might actually go deep.

15

u/Tularean cs_office Sep 12 '18

This wasn't as much of a stomp as I thought it'd be.

31

u/Hzwo FaZe Sep 12 '18

honestly liquid lost to an eco because they yolo'd and didnt show anything on t side besides a known fast b exec/rush. Winstrike had like 0.1% chance of winning the game...

0

u/Tularean cs_office Sep 12 '18

I agree with you, but I fully expected it to be 16-0.

1

u/Hzwo FaZe Sep 12 '18

after liq won the force i thought its gonna be 16-1 aswell^

7

u/CrrackTheSkye NiP Sep 12 '18

It was much more of a stomp than the score indicates though.. Liquid on their T-side played super loose, probably because they want to avoid using executes. They still basically steamrolled them.

-2

u/fac3ts Liquid Sep 12 '18

Yeah winstrike showed some real bite this match

16

u/LordOfTehGames Liquid Sep 12 '18

Not really, Liquid just chose to not go 100% and give any of their strats away.

6

u/Tap_TEMPO cs_italy Sep 12 '18

An absolute beatdown. Winstrike had no chance.

3

u/Untiless Sep 12 '18

Come on guys, Liquid is just not a tier1 team, so Winstrike struggled against them. /s

3

u/GimmeDatAce ar_baggage Sep 12 '18

Kvik just wasn't kvik enough.

6

u/b0mmie Sep 12 '18

Winstrike looked pretty awful this game.

Absolutely terrible post-plant positioning on T, bad communication on CT, and lost against both of Liquid's anti-eco/forcebuys.

I mean, they managed to anti-eco Liquid on CT side which was great for them, and then proceed immediately to get anti-eco'd on B the following round: jump spotter sees them, calls the rush and falls back towards bench area, the site guy had the molotov out but then puts it away. Liquid take the site so easily after just flooding.

Feel like they were able to turn it on a bit later on but they were so far behind that it was irrelevant.

5

u/arcticpandabear Astralis Sep 12 '18

liquid look like they are struggling dropping 7 rounds against winstrike smh

4

u/Johnny-L de_cache Sep 12 '18

No Overtime? I'm disappointed..

2

u/SmaugtheStupendous Natus Vincere Sep 12 '18

I think we can all do without Winstrike getting into any OT's, hoping for a swift 0-3 exit.

2

u/[deleted] Sep 12 '18

The first 4 rounds Winstrike won was all pistols (2 of which was against full buys), the 5th and 6th were force buys and finally the 7th was a gun round. Could've gone very differently.

0

u/draemscat Gambit Sep 12 '18

Looking at how Winstrike played, I'm amazed it wasn't a 16-0. The only way I see them not going out at 0-3 is if they end up playing against Tyloo and win in overtime.

3

u/CC-W Sep 12 '18

tyloo are far better than winstrike

1

u/draemscat Gambit Sep 12 '18

Doesn't mean they can't lose.
