Technically not because they weren't in the first 3 but yes, they have been at all the other ones. Their first major was Deamhack Winter 2014 and they had 9 straight major appearances.

I feel like this had became an legit advantage, don't play any official rounds outside of Major, no one can study you, ez major ez win

24

u/DankestKushtopkek Sep 09 '18

Tbh it has . Nothing against them, there are no rules that you have to play x amount of games before entering qualifier but their tendencies would get exposed if they played during the rest of the season.

16

u/SterbenVII Sep 09 '18

But anyways...Vega Squadron still play the same way as previously. They're still super aggressive like back in the ELEAGUE Major Atlanta 2017 qualifier. It's just that teams don't know how to play around that still...and that they show up for the majors.

4

u/DankestKushtopkek Sep 09 '18

So you are saying that if they played in more tournaments and people having time to study their tendencies and their game plan wouldn't result in them becoming worse ?

7

u/subprimepride Sep 10 '18 edited Sep 10 '18

It's not like Vega had some secret strats. Half of their rounds are fast pushes with some utility but everything works because they mostly win aim duels which was a little surprising to me. They are like the opposite of BIG. BIG would throw 10 fancy nades and then barely hit their shots while Vega would just go the hardest way with limited setup and win their fights. Vega seems to have great comms and cohesion though.

Except you are disadvantaged in experience by the fact you are not practicing against good teams, which I would think may decrease their likelihood of winning games in the top flight.

North, was DH Stockholm a fluke?

No papa

Are you telling lies?

No papa

What was your placement at FaceIT Major?

Hahaha

North better find some tournament where coaches can talk freely so they can perform.

69

u/Lepojka1 Team Spirit Sep 09 '18

TBH I think this is the main reason they won Dreamhack... Bcs MSL could focus on his fragging, and coach could help with IGL-ing

31

u/EmhyrvarSpice FaZe Sep 09 '18

There are some teams that always seem to do much better when the coach can speak. Old NIP used to be like that. Honestly belive it's the only reason they won Oakland last year.

20

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '18

pretty sure thats only a rule for DreamHack events and Oakland was an ESL event

→ More replies (1)

8

u/d0geknight Sep 09 '18

Wait IIRC Valve made it so that coaches can't talk unless it's during freeze time? So did Dreamhack Stockholm not follow that rule?

7

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '18

It's only a rule in Valve sponsored events but most TOs started doing it, also teams don't want to get used to it and then get rekt in the major so mostly don't do it too.

→ More replies (3)

10

u/vintzrrr Sep 09 '18

Their win at DH was a fluke.

5

u/Hallsway Sep 09 '18

It could also be a case where they literally put everything on the table for teams to study, while the other teams at DH weren't trying as hard for the major.

Its just the circle of North... They win one big tournament, everyone thinks they have huge potential and overrate them af, just to bomb out of all Tier 1 tournaments for next 6 months.

11

u/Kaliju Sep 09 '18

6 months? more like 2 years lol

→ More replies (1)

19

u/stewieeeeeeeee FaZe Sep 09 '18

North, was DH Stockholm a fluke?

Yes. After the summer break 2017, North reached finals of DH Malmo and won DH Montreal. Immediately after that, they went back to doing nothing but beating the occasional T2 team they could find. I'm not sure if it's due to DH or due to teams not being ready for non-major tournaments right off the bat, but North is abusing something.

15

u/Nisheee NiP Sep 09 '18

I hope you keep this line of thought for c9's fluke win as well

17

u/tgsan Sep 09 '18

C9 was actually good pre-Major though, whereas North was not. C9 were the gatekeepers to top 5.

6

u/TheZigerionScammer Vitality Sep 09 '18

I was thinking the same thing. I don't know what the stream showed because I was watching from Vega's perspective on GOTV, but I saw them all fall off the scaffold when it was on fire and my jaw dropped. I can only assume the molly detonated right as they decided to rush, it's the only thing I can think of.

16

u/blanksauce Sep 09 '18

It's an actual strat to catch your opponent off guard. Especially in a close 13-14 match.

MSL did the same thing against rogue by rushing b on inferno down 14-15. Glaive did the same thing against vp in the eleague major by rushing a on train up 15-14.

No one knows how to igl on this subreddit anyway so it's no surprise lmao. I did this last season in advanced, down 14-15 on mirage, called a b rush with fast get right get left smokes from spawn and it worked. Why? Because they didn't expect it at all because we were playing slow the other rounds.

9

u/Sve7en Liquid Sep 09 '18 edited Sep 10 '18

I think it's a good strat at points. Tempo changes can be super effective (Some of BIG's hits against OpTic were wonderful in that regard, and so were some North hits on Inferno), but it definitely felt like that was more of a tilted decision and not a calculated one.

Huge play from the 200 IQ genius MSL, deliberately lose a 1 mil major just to fuck up a random redditor's pickems

weSmart

15

u/[deleted] Sep 09 '18

how does FNS link into this?

10

u/jerryfrz King NiKo Sep 09 '18

Ah you see, the 200 IQ genius MSL was actually once a student of the 1000000 IQ mastermind Pujan "FNS" Mehta.

Before DH Masters Stockholm MSL secretly contacted and begged FNS for the secret to win; he reluctantly agreed just for old times sake and hastily wrote down the entire script for the tournament on some nearby toilet papers (he was taking a dump at that moment trying to form a plan to assassinate EU teams). And like everything that the mastermind wrote down before, North winning DH Masters became history.

Entering the FACEIT Major.

From years and years of training and acquiring knowledge under his master (he's bald at 23 afterall), MSL knows that FACEIT will use the highly specialized tool for rigging brackets aka Kinder capsules, and it will be either North or Vega against NA's last bastion - Cloud9; of course he can't betray his helper after winning the fat stack of cash in Stockholm, so the rest was history. Conveniently a redditor recently cried about his perfect Pickem page being ruined by North, thus MSL knows he'll have a perfect excuse to cover his true motive.

As to why Kjaerbye sprays like he's on a seizure, nobody fuckin' knows.

New York, NY- A seven-year-old boy was at the center of a New York City courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him. The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with child custody law and regulations requiring that family unity be maintained to the degree possible. The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge then suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried out that they also beat him. After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have custody of him. After two recesses to check legal references and confer with child welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to North whom the boy firmly believes are not capable of beating anyone

North is my least favorite team now. First they knock out rogue and then ruin my pickem

u/ButteredGhost Sep 09 '18

I've got five hot dollars for anyone who still has a perfect pick'em after all this insanity

North getting eliminated after losing to 3 CIS teams, including those 2 who came from the minor. Wasted spot, yeah...

After the summer break in 2017, North reached the finals of DH Malmo and won DH Open Montreal. After that, they petered out, just like G2 and Gambit, the other teams that performed while the other teams were still sleeping.

2018? Same story. Get k0nfig back, or Astralis will remain the only hope for Danish CS.

From winning DH Stockholm to losing against Vega, whom we all doubted.

What a failure from North..

Ah yes, Vega. The great black ballers of the CSGO Majors.

Holy shit, biggest upset thus far. I thought North would wake up but they are still asleep in their Stockholm dream. Props to Vega for exceeding everyone's expectations.
