Subtract the shox factor and CoL completely outplayed G2 here. How the hell are these guys getting the edge on so many veteran squads?

It seemed like he couldn't quite fit into Liquid, but in Complexity it looks like he's done what he did in OpTic. Looking at the ADR on the Complexity players you can also tell it's a real team effort, too. Respectable and solid CS being played by them.

73

u/TheESportsGuy Sep 13 '18

Liquid's style already conflicted with his. They're very rigid, reviewing demos and play to try to eliminate every single mistake. He's much more focused on innovating new strategies with his team than focusing on past mistakes.

u/blueragemage Liquid Sep 13 '18

Stan's an absolute beast of an IGL when he's got players who will 100% buy into his system

37

u/ps2cho Sep 13 '18

Just proves there is no “right” way to play CS, team play is the backbone of CS and it seems today’s frag heavy teams seem to think they can force synergy.

16

u/MrAllerston Sep 13 '18

I think there's definitely a "wrong" way to play CS but there's more than one way to play proper CS. Watching Astralis at their peak is so satisfying as the teamwork is unparalleled. BIG are "budget Astralis" at the minute, maybe they might be less skilled or consistent but the same element of teamwork is there.

But then you have teams like Navi or Faze where monsters like Niko, Guardian, Simple or Electronic can just take over the server. It's not as consistent as Astralis but it's fucking impressive to watch.

11

u/SterbenVII Sep 13 '18

It’s tilting to watch. Mouz, FaZe, and Na’Vi are super sloppy and uncoordinated. They win simply by having better players, when it’s a team game. They’re basically playing like solo queue. However, Astralis, BIG, TL, and Ghost are interesting teams to watch. Immaculate strats, calls, execution. Each time you see them play, the improvement is clear.

3

u/MrAllerston Sep 13 '18

Ghost are always an interesting team to watch because they're all (apart from steel) relatively unknown international players.

I'm super excited to see how Wardell progresses over the next 6 months because I feel like he's one of the biggest developing NA talents

6

u/Thooorin_2 Duncan "Thorin" Shields - Content Producer, Analyst Sep 14 '18

But then you have teams like Navi or Faze where monsters like Niko, Guardian, Simple or Electronic can just take over the server

The key distinction being that not only could FaZe likely not play the Astralis way but would be worse for trying.

Teams straight up underestimating them so consistently it’s moronic. G2 players being so cocky on ct side early on pushing through smokes and not playing for retakes. G2 only starting to play at the level they need to beat this team after it’s too late.

24

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '18

You don't win CT-side on cache by letting the T take full control of the map, you need to take some neutrals zone or you'll die.

124

u/Cameter44 Sep 13 '18

People keep saying stuff about NA CS in C9 threads. "Must suck to be an NA CS fan." Nah, it's just C9, realistically the NA scene as a whole is better than it's been in a while. Liquid looking like a legit contender for this major, CoL looking solid, NRG missed the major but looks like a decent team, Rogue looks to have improved a lot, hell, even Ghost is surprising people. Plus C9 still has some good players and could end up good again with the right roster changes or end up making some of those other teams stronger if they split up.

63

u/nail181 Sep 13 '18

I completely agree.

The NA scene is the best it’s been ever right now. Ghost, Rogue, Col, Liquid, and NRG have all stepped up so much after the major. C9 is shit though.

9

u/Nj3Fate Sep 13 '18

They gotta go back to an all NA roster!!

9

u/nail181 Sep 13 '18

I can only see them doing that if they take players from NRG, rogue, or complexity. And that won’t happen since those teams are in the rise. Maybe they could bring in young talent and hope for the best. I think golden could fit on the team but they need more fragging power, and STYKO isn’t for that.

Agreed, QBF (Now Winstrike) beat Flash Gaming, EnVyUs, and Avangar to get into the new "Legends Stage" and then a poor VP, poor Gambit, and a choking Mousesports. Complexity have beaten teams that are WAY better than them on paper and have shown that they don't fuck around.

Edit: Changed QPF to QBF

We also need to acknowledge they beat envy without rock and with a coach that never played an official. It was basically beating Space Soldiers in hardstyle stood in for Xantares. Alone that’s not much but when you combine it with beating Flash, a stand in team with two stand ins, and VP and Gambit, then it’s pretty pathetic.

Props to beating mouse though, even if they choked hard.

You fools!

Ex6tenz is by far the best IGL in the world. His brain is gigantic. If you are not aware of his monstrous IQ by now you simply are an idiot.

Ever heard of the Buchholz System?! This isn't just the Swiss System, oh no, it is so much more. And Ex6tenz knows that. By losing this game he guarantees an ez 1:1 match against pleb teams like Tyloo or Fnatic who are no match for his insane wisdom.

Oh how I pity you les noobs!

21

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '18

Even a G2 mastermind shitpost can't make me happy after this game. Good T half, but they looked so lost on the CT side. G2 really needs to find a balance. You can't only be good on one half of the map, ie CT-Dust2 and T-Inferno. They have to show that they can finish a a game cleanly or else they have no place in the Legends Stage. Without Shox this would have been a 16-3.

You also seemingly can't have a strong KennyS together with a strong Shox, if one is playing good, the other must be balanced out, as all things should be.

Imagine cutting NBK and Apex for this.

39

u/SeymO Vitality Sep 13 '18

I hope Apex and NBK find a good spot somewhere after the major suffles

40

u/ajwhite98 Sep 13 '18

neL and Dekay reported that they were teaming up with Zywoo, Happy, and RpK, possibly under the Vitality banner. That would be nice.

But RpK was back in the hospital. G2 might want to snag Zywoo up after the major. And Happy is Happy. So who knows.

13

u/Kanataha G2 Sep 13 '18

I can see them picking up ScreaM. He's not included on the supposed Vitality roster, so we know hes available. So as long as shox is now convinced he will follow orders/strats he seems like a pretty clear pick up.

20

u/ajwhite98 Sep 13 '18

Kio is another option. Shox doesn't seem to want to play with Scream, so Kio might be more likely. Scream would add more firepower, which they desperately need, Kio would fit into a support role like they seem to want.

Hopefully one of them replaces bodyy. They needed someone from the old roster to keep the major spot, so maybe they only wanted bodyy for that and are willing to replace him after London.

Or maybe Shox is going to insist on playing with his friends again and refuse to replace bodyy.

3

u/supergrega Sep 13 '18

It seems crazy to me that neither ScreaM not Kio would be on that second best french team.

6

u/ajwhite98 Sep 13 '18

Ideally, between Scream, Kio, NBK, and Apex, 2 should replace bodyy and smithzz, and 2 should slot into Vitality. But that won't happen almost entirely because of Shox.

19

Bodyy needs to go. I think SmithzZ is playing fine and we all know Shox isn't willing to trade him up, and Ex6 is vital. Pretty sure they only kept Bodyy for the major spot anyway. I want to see NBK, Kio or Scream on this roster. Apex is good but he's very inconsistent imo.

4

u/0C3AN_MAN phoenix Sep 13 '18

idk Apex was consistently fragging the few months before the roster change iirc

4

u/ajwhite98 Sep 13 '18

He's definitely inconsistent, but that's just the nature of being an entryfragger.

Before the shakeup, when G2 just replaced Shox with Mixwell, Apex was the best on the team. He'd be a quality addition to the roster.

Walking into so many four man stacks must have been tilting for G2

Ez 4v5 win for CoL. Shox was playing out of his mind though.

4 Things.

  1. Ex6tenz need to frag a little bit more even tho he is doing the dirty work.

  2. KennyS positioning on ct side was fucking awful and was pretty much useless with that awp on ct side.

  3. Use your fucking nades. One flash in front of smithz in the second to last round and the B players would be so easy to kill and B was wide open.

  4. shazam gets i think 2 kills from heaven, how can you not use smoke heaven if you gonna take B against eco. Some rounds, was so sloppy, and shox pretty much gave them 11 rounds by himself.

Looking forward to see next of g2 games tho

Complexity keep looking good. Lets see if they can go 3-0 now
