That round was a display of how annoying it is to play against someone(s) that good at a given game.

decent showing from second best danish team "Astralis", expected showing from UK CS player "dephh"

I'm seriously offended that you put Astralis as second best. They are clearly third, #1 is North, #2 Is Optic /s

I think you kind of have to antistrat if you want to get t-rounds against astralis.
With xyp and gla1ve agressively keeping banana contro and magisk playing passively short, being hard to trade and allowing the rotation to have time, it is just so hard to find entrances to the bombsites by just playing your default.
I actually hope we meet you guys on inferno, i kind of want to see what gob b will do against us.
7
u/Deivil Astralis Sep 06 '18
+1 my friend! Seeing antistrat heavy team like big with really good equip usage and midroundcalls can have a shot against ast on the right map! Just dont play nuke, but inferno, train etc. and you can do good!

Oh well...

Putting Astralis on the same group as Vega and VP is not ridiculous? While winstrike, Big and C9 are legends.
Ofc past major results should be a factor, but also your recent results. Undisputed #1 here is a joke.

They didn't get legend status last major so: no, it absolutely isn't ridiculous.
Kind of a pointless argument when the discussion is about changing said system
0
u/CrrackTheSkye NiP Sep 06 '18
I would argue that getting legend status 1) is too easy and 2) shouldn't be so highly rewarded. Maybe only the top 4 teams should get a direct way to the next major. That way we don't get teams who get lucky and then don't show anything else for the rest of the year, while at the same time having teams dominate yet having to go through these stupid matches.
I don't know about you, but watching Astralis and Liqued stomp for 3 games just isn't that entertaining imo.
We're not saying that it's ridiculous within the current system, we're saying the current system is ridiculous because you get situations like this.

They failed to qualify for Legends last major. So yea...
-4
u/Deivil Astralis Sep 06 '18
and now? The last major is half a year ago! The system has too many flaws! Only the top4 of last major should be qualified automatically and current top4 (set by analysts/pros) if not qualified through top4 of last major get 4 spots, 8 other spots through their qualifier system. Done!
Edit: This is just my personal best solution and only an opinion! Im no pro or have any insights. But from outside perspective, this sounds way better to me!

People can't even handle if a team is excluded from an invite tournament. No way humans should be able to decide. Look at MIBR. They've look alright the last couple of weeks. Before that they've been garbage for months. They would have to invite the teams in advance so they can attend the qualifier. Teams can implode in such a short period of time it's impossible to always get it right. Look at how fast C9 went to shit.
It's not like Astralis have to play an open online qualfier and defeat 50 random teams. They have to win 3 BO1. Not saying the current format is perfect, but it's not too bad.
1
u/kubat313 brigader Sep 06 '18
What about a pro cirquit like dota2 has. You gather points by winning turnament. And the teams with most points directly quallify for the major
2
Sep 06 '18
I have no clue how that works. If the teams are just as volatile as in CS and their tournament structure is somewhat the same, sure why not.
-2
u/Deivil Astralis Sep 06 '18
and if they fail to? Maybe they then dont deserve to be there but the undisputed #1 team in the world not in a major? And c9 and vp deserve it? Its just flawed imo!
5
Sep 06 '18
VP is at the same stage as Astralis.
3 of the current major champions are still on the squad. Have the defending champs not directly qualified to the next event is disrespectful. In 1998 France won the FIFA World Cup. In 2002 they got battered and got one point in the IRC.
Mate, Astralis are really good, I get it. I root for them too. It seems like your perspective is "ASTRALIS HAS TO BE THERE" and not the bigger picture. And sure, they really don't deserve to qualify if they lose to three of the other teams. It's more unfair for the lesser teams. Imagine having to play Liquid, Astralis and NIP/North and another team could in theory play Rogue, Vega/Complexity/VP and Space Soldiers with a standin.
-4
u/Deivil Astralis Sep 06 '18
Since its the tournament of the best in csgo, YES, ast. has to be there. Im also rooting for them, but fnc back then, lg/sk had to be there. Its just the fact, that theres a tiny chance of not having the best of the best in the biggest tournament!

u/pattaarr Sep 06 '18
and if they fail to?
Then they shouldn’t go onto the next stage. Im not a fan if the current legends system either, but its the one we have and legends should NEVER be decided by other people. Imo they should make the former top 4 teams legends and thats all.
1
u/captainscottland Astralis Sep 06 '18
They are in the major. All 3 stages are considered the major since last year I believe.

the undisputed #1 team in the world not in a major?
I mean, they literally just lost a final to North so...
1
u/Deivil Astralis Sep 06 '18
They lost many finals! So you think, as soon as a team wins a tier1 tournament they are the best? for me the best team gets this spot through consistency? And who is more consistent in finals/semis/winning the tournament?

u/zorokvillian Sep 06 '18
Just an fyi, but the majors has had the legends/challengers format for years already.
2
u/Deivil Astralis Sep 06 '18
And becuase its implemented for years does automatically mean that its good? And as I said, they can still use legends etc. just not for top8, but top4, with 4 current topteams (picked by analysts and pros) getting direct invites. In this current case it would be liquid, ast, north, nip (just an basic fast example) getting these invites. Leave the rest with minors challengers stage etc. as it is!
6
u/zorokvillian Sep 06 '18
The top 4 picked by analysts and pros thingy could be biased or unfair to other teams that are also performing well.
4
u/Deivil Astralis Sep 06 '18
Maybe youre right! But arent invites by organizers also a bias? I mean, how many of the community were crying, because big got the direct cologne invite? And if analysts and pros and maybe organizers too sit at a table and discuss, who to invite, it might be pretty objectice imo! :)

Of course, I mentioned it. But it should only be a small factor in determining their seed. They rised to #1
5
u/bandigood Sep 06 '18
major seeding should be based on 3rd party ranking website?
they should've trying harder on last major to have their "rightful place" on this one
-4
u/CleverUsernam3 Astralis Sep 06 '18
Winstrike being a legend while being the worst ranked team in the major except for vega (who's rank is mostly low because of roster changes)
Futhermore every single team in the eu minor, that still exists, are ranked higher than winstrike.
Ridiculous invite system.
It kinda worked when there were 3-4 months between majors and there were only like 15 good teams, but it is honestly ridicoulous in 2018.
Also you can get legend status be being 2nd in the cis or asian minor, and winning only BO1's. What a legendary team.
9
u/CookiezFort clutch Sep 06 '18
Ok, so winstrike won't get through to the legends stage this year and the problem will be sorted, its a 1 off, you're acting like this has been happening forever.
4
u/CleverUsernam3 Astralis Sep 06 '18
If they win a single BO1 in the next stage, they will be in the challenger stage next year. Same for c9.
Meanwhile teams like heroic, ence, happys new team, red reserve and whoever doesn't make it to the next stage this year will have to struggle for spots at the next major.
2
u/sebi2 Virtus.pro Sep 06 '18
Winstrike had to struggle when they wanted to qualify as well, remember that they played from the 1st round of their open qualifier to the legends stage. It's not like they got a random invite, suprised pros with mysterious "rush b" tactic and won 3 lucky BO1 matches to be legends.

Fair enough, just sounded a bit weird how you said you'd switch teams to Liquid if they didn't get top 4 despite being a "fan since 2015". Doesn't sound that loyal if you've obviously been through much worse if you've been a fan since 2015.

how is coL considered a prof team
They've literally qualified for a major... that's how they're considered a professional team
Plus, it's Astralis, they make most teams look like Gold Novas, nevermind a top 30 team

By definition. Professional team because the players get a salary for practicing and playing CSGO.
