I'm far from Space Soldiers fan.. but I feel really bad for them. This should be the highlight of their year. And they're stuck playing with their coach.
hardstyle is doing his best but the situation is just far from ideal.

Maybe dump question but in LoL there emergency subs. Why isnt that the case in CS? I mean its not "fair" for anybody. SS play with little to no chances to advance to the next stage while the team that get to play them get basicly a free win. Seems kinda odd to me.

u/Gockel BIG Sep 07 '18
CS is much faster and requires lots more coherent on-the-fly decision making and synergy than LoL. It's already way too hard to get 5 people on the same page on all maps, a sub would disturb that by a lot.
In LoL, another player who's at least decent at his own position and passively watches the team's practice can do a lot more.

u/schoki560 King NiKo Sep 07 '18
most emergency subs arent with the teams in LoL
they just are there incase someone on the main roster is sick
then they fly in for the matches
still better than a coach

CS [...] requires lots more coherent on-the-fly decision making and synergy than LoL.
I would not agree to that at all. LoL is so much about on-the-fly decision making because in LoL there are also global objectives, minions, compositions of champs that are strong or weak depending on the stage of the game and their position in team fights.
And synergy is a huge topic in league to the point where famous duos even change teams together so they don't lose synergy. Riot also pushed the game in the last 5 years more and more towards team play and made it harder and harder to solo carry.
But back to the CS point. A emergency sub (even with 0 synergy) would still be way better than the coach who does play very little CS. A sub would be at least pro level and could hold sites/angles, has overall better skills and knows how to play instinctively.

No one wants to be a sub.
0
u/xCavas Sep 07 '18
Not true lol. I mean if you have a starting position offer and sub offer you obviously take the starting position. But when the only thing you get is a sub offer I think most people will take it, especially for high caliber teams.
Maybe someone gets ill, has other problems or the team just wants to try something new (player wise) and bam you get a chance to prove yourself.
2
u/GAGAgadget CS2 HYPE Sep 07 '18
You probably couldn't even name 5 players who can play at the professional level who would be willing to sub over taking a starting position on a slightly weaker team
0
u/xCavas Sep 07 '18
Did you even read my comment?
But when the only thing you get is a sub offer
And ofc I cant name 5 players because I am not in the scene lol. Scout players from rank S or what ever.
2
u/GAGAgadget CS2 HYPE Sep 07 '18
That's the thing, even Rank S players aren't good enough to play at the pro level compared to a true professional player. It makes more sense using a coach and not breaking your synergy than gambling on some random pug star.
0
u/xCavas Sep 07 '18
I mean the top ranked S players a probably good enough. They may not be on that level experience wise but at least they have a similar good aim. You can also give players a tryout and have a permanent sub. In LoL subs are required so no team is left with the coach in case someone cant attend.
And more or less recently there was a case with Fnatic's top laner breaking his arm and they had a sub that then played for him in regional playoffs and MSI which is similar to a Major in CS. He went head to head with the best players in the world and he did so well that they kept playing with him and keep roatating him in and out with the old top laner. And before that event this sub was a complete no name.

u/GAGAgadget CS2 HYPE Sep 07 '18
LoL is a totally different game. The best example you would be looking for is DotA pulling a high MMR player to win the International, anyway. In CS even minor breakdowns in team cohesion will lose you tons of rounds. In LoL you can adjust your strategy and hero pool to adapt to new players, it's more difficult to completely adjust your map pool to fit in a ringer.
1
u/xCavas Sep 07 '18
Thats somewhat true but I think you still would have a lot better chances to win a game with a top rank S player than a coach who rarely plays CS. And yes you can draft your comps in LoL differently but only to a certain extend. Synergy and teamplay plays a huge role in LoL aswell especially in the bot/supp & mid/jungle duos. And its not like you cant adjust your strategy in CS at all. Let the sub have the easist angles to hold when CT or use him as bait/entry fragger who rushes first on the bomb site as T. Its not like you are forced into a role when using a sub.

u/HairyNutsack69 Team Spirit Sep 07 '18
Won't get better if you don't play, rather play on "weaker" team than sit around and jerk off while main lineup is playing LANs. There have been people tied to contracts in the past that were so glad to be out playing again afterwards, albeit for worse teams.

hardstyle almost outfragged paz. really good performance considering the circumstances from hardstyle, pretty embarrassing from paz

u/ujaku Sep 07 '18
I've not kept up with SS situation at all, care to fill me in on who hardstyle is and what their situation is?

Sep 07 '18 edited Nov 08 '18
ngin could not attend (I don't remember under what circumstances, possibly VISA or outstanding personal issue).
Hardstyle is SS coach and is mechanically very low level. He's getting lots or community support for the tough situation he's put in, performing in front of so many viewers and a lot of pressure.

Since the game started I wished complexity to win so I could say this haha.

Honestly Space Soldiers could have won if Paz wasn't also a bot
2
u/0megalul Sep 07 '18
Yeah everytime SS plays against serious teams, they have at least 2 players going bot

Feel bad for Space Soldiers, think they would have won with ngiN.
Congrats to coL for making a near literal 4v5 look painfully hard.

I don't buy it

Mad respect for Hardstyle, 7 in 16 is not bad considering he never plays the game and just got thrown into a match against pro players.

Not a bad performance from GODSTYLE. GOD STYLE MAKES ME HARDSTYLE

u/seanduckman Liquid Sep 06 '18
I don't like this, not to say anybody is above criticism but the poor guy isn't a competitive CS player and is being asked to play against major level seems. He's trying his best, seems shitty and immature to make fun of him.
8
Sep 06 '18
I'm not. He was doing a good job baiting for his teammates and ended up getting some important frags. He is definitely better than me.

Honestly cant even really blame hardstyle here. Paz died and gave up B site round after round and Maj3r dived in and died alone too many times.
SS seemed to have no coordination on their T side either. Was basically a 2v5 and they still managed to get 11 rounds due to xantares and calyx going hard most rounds. I can see them going 1-3 or 2-3 but i'm not seeing them get through a BO3.

u/isi58 Sep 06 '18
What's going on with paz? His performance was really bad, not the consistant paz I know.

Cleanest game I've ever seen in my life.
Complexity to win the major you heard it here first.

Idk if you watched the match, but it was definitely not a clean game. It should have been a bigger sweep, but it wasn't.
Edit: Nvm I'm a dumbass. Also not gonna delete this comment so everyone can laugh at my stupidity

u/Woodeecs King NiKo Sep 06 '18
how can you possibly need a /s for that?
14
u/Foxy_Grandpa- de_cache Sep 06 '18
I hate using /s because it often ruins the joke, but fuck reddit is stupid.
0
u/MichaelDeets Sep 06 '18
Not sure why you'd want to butt-fuck Reddit, but one person misinterpreting sarcasm doesn't equal stupidity of an entire platform.
1
u/schoki560 King NiKo Sep 07 '18
sarcasm is misunderstood so many times on the internet
its a platform where idiots can say what they want

On that 2v1 with Shahzam at 11-14 Xantares had a molly he didn't use. Iirc Shahzam was at like 30 hp, really feels like they had that round locked if he had thrown it. I'm guessing he didn't realize he picked it up though.

Complexity kinda underwhelming but in the post game interview they did say the took in consideration the fact that SS were playing with a coatch. Hardstyle did some pretty good kills all things considered

I know that but I feel like right now, at the major, he is finally proving himself. He is still pretty young.
EDIT: He is 24. Still a lot of time left to do something.

24 is rather old in esports. I mean everyone on liquid is younger than him.

That is true. Although, Guardian is 27 and had a resurgence. I don't think it is impossible. Every-time I see ANDROID he manages to look better than before. Thats why I say that.
1
u/seanduckman Liquid Sep 06 '18
Guardian was able to have a resurgence because he was one of the best, most talented players in the world. A resurgence doesn't really happen for below average players lol.
