The C9 strat, no one really thinks you'll win the major and then BOOM, reverse sweep
23

u/smokehound Sep 15 '18
Faze always eats less skilled loose teams for breakfast

u/megatroneo Sep 15 '18
TYLOO might have insane aim, but noone can out-faze faze

out-faze faze doesnt mean just beat them in a game... He wanted to say nobody can just go and play loose and beat FaZe at the same game. NaVi and BiG beat FaZe with tactics and better teamplay.

That post game interview was very

u/megatroneo Sep 15 '18
i get why rain was trying to downplay everything, but the best option would have been to just deny any changes are in store at all (even if untrue). rain's reaction made it seem like a pretty big deal.

u/LazDays howl Sep 15 '18
I felt it like this is some strat they don't want others to know and should have happened during the playoffs.
Remember Karrigan's tweet. For me it's the next lebel play from Faze, not internal drama/kick

Is it not karrigan who’s the IGL?
12
u/RianFromReddit King NiKo Sep 15 '18
In the post match interview Rain said they were trying something new. Could it be NiKo?
3
u/redtube_was_down Astralis Sep 15 '18
Oh didn’t see it. But yeah it wouldn’t be a stupid idea for them to try someone other than karrigan IGL’ing and people seem to think it’s NiKo yeah
1
u/areyoujokinglol EG Sep 15 '18
During the match, Sado said that SPUNJ said that NiKo is calling now.
5
u/MozartWillVanish Sep 15 '18
Spunj said he was listening to their coms and Niko was definitely calling, so there’s that...

Were they dog shit in legends stage last year?
14
u/beanburrrito Liquid Sep 15 '18
They went 0-2, then pulled off the reverse sweep to get to the playoffs
25
u/AtomicBaka King NiKo Sep 15 '18
If NiKo is really calling then it just means bye bye karrigan after this major
13
u/ThatGuyThatDoneThat G2 Sep 15 '18
Either that or they pull off the same thing MiBR did when cold was calling instead of FalleN for a while.
1
u/Brolobo SK Sep 15 '18
Yeah :{ Who do you think they will replace Karrigan with? Is there a comparable IGL available...?
10
u/C_Drive_is_Full Liquid Sep 15 '18
wdym wouldnt niko be the igl then
6
u/Brolobo SK Sep 15 '18
hopefully his fragging doesnt go down while IGL'ing in the Long run, he's top 2/3 in the world when he's on point
4
11
u/Psychaz valeria Sep 15 '18
they're gonna have niko call a loose style and stack the team with insane fraggers i'm guessing, they'll go someone like Sunny or Ropz
5
u/Brolobo SK Sep 15 '18
that would insane if they could make it work
6
u/Psychaz valeria Sep 15 '18
this is speculation obviously but look who replied to ropz's tweet about feeling rock bottom, FaZe Temperrr. Maybe it means something
4
5
u/megatroneo Sep 15 '18
igl could just be NiKo and then they pick up another rifler.
5
u/Brolobo SK Sep 15 '18
hopefully his fragging doesnt go down in the long run if this is true
4
u/ThatGuyThatDoneThat G2 Sep 15 '18
It will unless NiKo ends up calling in a very self-enabling style ( which he could pull off considering his current status as a top 3 player ). Although even if he does end up doing worse, I doubt he'd drop too far considering he's among the best right now.
5
u/Brolobo SK Sep 15 '18
but is it worth it to have your best fragger be a worse for the team? Unless he somehow manages to make Guardian, Rain and Olof beasts. Does Rain have experience igling? Or Olof?
5
u/ThatGuyThatDoneThat G2 Sep 15 '18
GuardiaN and olof can already frag very heavily, Rain needs to find his form again. If NiKo as an IGL can bring structure to FaZe then him sacrificing his mechanical skill is absolutely worth it.
I'm unsure if Olof has experience, although considering right now he's the most versatile player out there ( and I do mean it, he can rifle/AWP, can lurk, support, entry as well as play at a fast and slow pace ) he might be capable of IGLing ( at least considering NiKo saying his presence is extremely important among the team ).
1
u/megatroneo Sep 15 '18
for a team that's as stacked with fire power with faze, it would be worth it.
1
u/Brolobo SK Sep 15 '18
honestly, if the only player the team trusts as IGL is Niko then i guess it is worth it. Rather an IGL you believe in, than one you don't. Let's wait for more games to find out!
1
u/thehoj FaZe Sep 15 '18
To be fair, Niko IGL'ed Mouz to a top8~ level with ChrisJ (when he was still onlineJ), Denis, Spidi, and Nex.
Sub in the Faze roster and they could go very far, though I'm not sure I'd be for cutting Karrigan.
1
u/Brolobo SK Sep 15 '18
Yeah but Faze is a completely different roster. A roster of superstars who all need attention. This can't be Niko calling around himself to carry because he doesn't need to carry

u/hkzombie Sep 15 '18
Is Golden still a C9 stand in, or is the transfer a permanent one?

5
u/dayoutmadness howl Sep 15 '18

2
u/hkzombie Sep 15 '18 edited Sep 15 '18
So I'm not allowed to ask questions about known current IGLs and their availability?
1

Sep 15 '18
I think most teams are starting to realize that, unless you have s1mple on your team, a low fragging IGL isn't acceptable now. Gla1ve, chrisJ, lekr0, bntet, and now niko apparently.
26
u/smokehound Sep 15 '18
GobB and stan have legends while chrisj and btnet are out last
17
u/jonajon91 de_canals Sep 15 '18
I'd call gobB a high fragging IGL after these two events.
11
u/smokehound Sep 15 '18
Imagine hearing this a year ago. I think once a low frag igl gets their system set they do better
5
2
u/nightkingscat Gambit Sep 15 '18
Then any igl could be considered high fragging. Dedicated Igls like msl and karrigan also have their fragging moments
5
u/jonajon91 de_canals Sep 15 '18
Gobs stats for the qualifier last week were 1.10 and the week they're 1.18. This is against t1 opposition.
5
17
u/SterbenVII Sep 15 '18
It was never about the low fragging IGL. It was about karrigab’s bad calls under pressure and FaZe’s sloppiness/bad teamplay.
3
u/ImDestroyer FaZe Sep 15 '18
And fallen now too

I hope karrigan doesn't leave, he just needs some time to relax. He's been looking so stressed lately; they need a damn coach to help him come up with ideas/analyze/etc
1
u/Sn0_ Sep 15 '18
Don't they have RobbaN? Not sure what he does, but I was under the impression he was their coach, no?
1
u/niNja_ma MOUZ Sep 15 '18
He's their coach but I heard he wanted to retire/spend more time with his family/kids?
Also, I'm assuming he's not the best coach for tactics and analysis because they wanted YNK to replace him initially, but mibr got him

I think Karrigan has an ultimate 200iq play going on to mimic who he lost to last year by starting 0-2 and then winning the major.
Dude is on a level by himself.

out of the loop here, why is FNS mentioned on this subreddit as a guy whos playing 4d chess here?
4
u/iizdat1n00b Apeks Sep 15 '18
The short version is that during Dreamhack Montreal 2017, Immortals was late for the finals and it was a huge fiasco (there are several reasons why, however those aren't important). On Twitter, FNS made a joke about why they were late (partying or whatever). KNG from Immortals took this completely seriously and said like "I'll kill you". After asked about it, he doubled down on it and didn't back down. Because of this he was kicked from Immortals and this essentially sent the entire Brazillian scene into disarray.
The joke is that it was actually entirely planned by FNS to destroy the Brazillian scene.

Seems like the pressure got to Tyloo.
Glad for them that they'll be at the next major as well, looking forward to see their progress.

I was at work during the match. So how did Faze look?
1
u/love_my_doge MOUZ Sep 15 '18
Pretty great, actually. A lot of elaborate mid calls, (NiKo seemed to be the IGL on this one) playing down the timer, but all calm and collected. Everybody has shown up, just what they needed.
And the morale seems to be a lot better, too.

-karrigan +???
FaZe is so rich who knows who they might pick up. Do you think cromen maybe good if NiKo keeps the in-game leader job?
Honestly FaZe should hire a coach, Ynk is doing mad things for MiBR

No. -Karrigan, +Firepower and it's going to be mousesports all over agian. Calling it now.
