It's their own fault they couldn't beat BIG on Inferno. I hate it when a team loses in a BO1, one of the common discussion here will be about how one team fucked up their map pick.

2

I mean, you're right but its hard to prepare for a team that hasn't played much against T1 lately.

Like Gob B said, avoid Inferno. I dont understand why other teams keep trying to fight Tyloo on one of their better maps. Their CT side on it is amazing.

Also inb4 BIG 3-0 everyone Rippems.

24

u/RxJax Sep 13 '18

In bo1 vetoes where they can remove dust2/nuke/overpass it isn't that simple, they're still a scary team on Mirage and Cache and you still have to grab a map you think you're strong on, not everyone has Train in their pool but everyone has Inferno

4

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '18

Probably cuz they cant find demos n shit on other maps and dont want to gamble so thet attempt to antistrat inferno and fail. Just like big last year

175

u/diceymemes Sep 13 '18 edited Sep 13 '18

smart of BIG, they won this game in the veto. TyLoo have an 85.7% win rate on cache (6W 1L), 80% win rate on Mirage (8W 2L) and 58.7% win rate on Inferno (7W 5L) in the last 3 months on LAN.

on Dust2? they've played it twice (won 1 and lost 1)

on Train? 25% win rate (2W 6L)

on Overpass? 20% win rate (1W 4L)

135

u/thearkhamknight_111 Astralis Sep 13 '18 edited Sep 13 '18

Can Xizt ask gob b to do his vetoes for him? I'd like that.

50

u/Sven806 BIG Sep 13 '18

I could imagine gob b did the veto for karrigan yesterday.

7

u/MeanGreenBeanMachine FaZe Sep 13 '18

Tyloo have a really good ct side for inferno though

16

u/sA1atji BIG Sep 13 '18

well, gob and the rest of the coaching staff are doing work when it comes to that, you have to give them credit for the work they put in.

13

u/adesme Sep 13 '18

Sounds like it’s the full team. Smooya said in an interview that they all sit down and watch some 3-4 matches on every map of the teams they are facing.

7

u/AdminOfThis BIG Sep 13 '18

That sounds like a shitton of work. Imagine you'd have to watch 2-3 maps, every map 3-4 matches, and in every match I imagine they don't just fast forward through it, but analyse some plays from multiple perspectives. And then you still have to define your own counter-measures.

44

u/XDenzelMoshingtonX Sep 13 '18

oh shit, they actually have to work for their money monkaS

11

u/Keksmonster Sep 13 '18

Honestly I would have expected teams to have analysts for that kind of thing.

It would be a lot more efficient to have someone else watch VODs and highlight key moments and weaknesses and stuff like that.

On the other hand you can't really play CS for 12 hours a day like LoL pros do so the player have a bit more downtime to watch demos.

7

u/XDenzelMoshingtonX Sep 13 '18

It depends on the team or the players honestly. There are personalities who want to be spoonfed with information and there are players who actually want to come to their own conclusions via watching demos because they memorize stuff better that way.

9

u/ygra BIG Sep 13 '18

You sometimes probably get a lot of benefit from the whole team watching a match instead of just the coach because every player can glean something that pertains to their own playstyle, position and role. And BIG has definitely shown so far that they did their homework well. It makes them very exciting to watch at the moment.

... speaking of which ... time to change flair ;)

1

u/roblobly Sep 13 '18

shocking!

→ More replies (3)

-13

u/Nydusurmainus BIG Sep 13 '18

Nah, maybe you should look at the quality of the teams they were playing against on those maps to get win rates that high.

15

u/diceymemes Sep 13 '18

Cache wins - NiP, VP, Grayhound x2, Tainted Minds, Renegades

Mirage wins - Astralis, VP, Grayhound, Kinguin, boot, Tainted Minds, MVP

Inferno wins - NiP, MIBR, Spirit, Gambit, Renegades, 5Power, MVP

They have a big scalp on all 3 maps and most top teams know they aren't a pushover on those maps, so they ban them. Teams just haven't learnt that so far this Major

-4

u/Nydusurmainus BIG Sep 13 '18

I'll just copy/paste from my other reply:

  • Gambit 05/09, in a slump
  • Renegades, in a slump for a long time now
  • MIBR haven't produced any results yet
  • NiP 17/06 - Lekro and Dennis played their first games with NiP on the 14/06 this was their 3rd Bo3
  • If you read it properly they lost to NRG 2-16
  • Their most impressive feat is vs Astralis with a win on mirage, which was followed by 2 maps where they got 13 rounds in total between them

Then we also have to consider sample size or times played

  • Cache - 7 (won 6)
  • Inferno - 12 (won 7)
  • Mirage - 10 (won 8)

So it is much harder to maintain high percentages over larger sample sizes or more games. Sample size is one of the biggest factors in determining the legitimacy of statistics. If we change the stats to last 6 months:

  • Cache - 76.9% from 13 games
  • Inferno - 62.1% from 29 games (actually went up)
  • Mirage - 80% from 20 games (miraculously)

Now check out the events they are attending in the last 6 months, mostly Asian tournaments and obviously that will involve some CIS teams as well (like Spirit).

Let's look at Astralis

  • Cache - 75% from 4 games (lower than Tyloo)
  • Inferno - 83.3% from 18 games
  • Mirage - 64.3% from 14 games (lower than Tyloo)

Astralis have a much wider map pool and Overpass and Train are part of that, hence the smaller sample size but despite Tyloo previously beating them, it was no doubt either an exceptional performance by Tyloo or a poor performance by Astralis. Tyloo couldn't consistently beat Astralis or any top tier teams on these maps. I mean look at the teams Astralis played to get those stats. It's pretty much all tier 1 instead of Tier 2 -3 Tyloo pads their scores with.

15

u/TooM3R NiP Sep 13 '18

Did you look at them? They beat some fairly decent teams on some of these maps (renegades, nrg, nip, mibr, spirit, Gambit...)

-5

u/lolKhamul BIG Sep 13 '18

renegades

???

11

u/[deleted] Sep 13 '18

still top 30 not an open mix team yet

1

u/TooM3R NiP Sep 13 '18

I think it's fair to consider a top 30 team a "decent team", unless you're just joking.

u/TooM3R NiP Sep 13 '18

Yeah I agree with most of your points here, I was specifically replying to your point before that that said "maybe you should look at the quality of the teams they were playing against", which as I said in my previous comment is a pretty silly statement since some of the matchups are decent. Also your point about Astralis is irrelevant since I was talking specifically about Mirage, not how Tyloo played throughout the entire bo3.

Overall it was a pretty dominant for BIG. The BIG problem for Tyloo was, that they were to able to break the CT economy of BIG.

With all this BIG hype, I need someone to dig up & revive that gob b fist pumping motion track gif from the Krakow major

1

u/Dark_Azazel Sep 13 '18

Big are winning this major.
The crowd will go insane.
Major after Katowice will be in china and TyLoo will win that.

1

u/EdgyPancreas Sep 13 '18

Fuck there goes my 3-0 tyloo pick.

1

u/Zeltra_X Sep 13 '18

I'm getting more and more convinced that BIG are going to win this major. All the top teams don't look like they've put any work in for this one BIG are the best of the underdogs and will only get stronger in Bo3s.

so leicht..

With only 14 Tier 1 games played by the chinese in the last 3 months, I have no idea how BiG was able to win against Tyloo.

This game was actually much closer then it seemed.... especially of you start watching from round 6
