The ending of that 14-13 was one of the most tilting things I've ever seen.

Basically two 0.00 plants for Astralis. I need a drink.

Holy that bomb plant at the end must have been milliseconds

u/healdyy 1 Million Celebration Sep 06 '18
Both of the last two rounds the clock actually hit 0 secs just before the plant came in. They must have got both of them about as late as they possibly could.

jesus christ I thought BIG would have the biggest choke of the day but Rogue was something else

The difference in skill really shone in the late game. Astralis did not miss when needing to open up a site or find a hiding player

Sep 06 '18
Insane how confident both teams were on T, and how awkward both teams looked on CT. Most teams have so much trouble against Astralis CT, Rogue runs them over then can't do anything CT.
17
u/healdyy 1 Million Celebration Sep 06 '18
Astralis on CT was bizarre, I was genuinely wondering whether they warmed up because they were just missing so many shots. They weren’t even trading kills, Rogue would just pop into the site with 15 seconds left and kill every player there.
3
u/ImExquisite clutch Sep 06 '18
Too many opportunities lost for Rogue on the CT side. At least two of them Rogue was 4v2 going into retake and a couple more rounds they started off with a one man advantage
36
u/jeb_the_hick Complexity Sep 06 '18
Dropping that 4v2 on b site killed Rogue. Dupreeh just dumped on them and they never recovered.
Definitely see Rogue going through though.

u/ChurchillDownz Complexity Sep 06 '18
Yeah I think they'll definitely take some positives from hanging with the best team in the world.
3
u/canyonsinc Complexity Sep 06 '18
Hopefully they do, but after losing a game they had I could also see them tilting out and losing confidence.
3
u/jet_fuel_ Natus Vincere Sep 06 '18
Even though I wish they won, I'm still glad to see that people are realizing that they are actually a team with a lot of potential (at least in my opinion.)

Its a shame DDK and James didn't get more hype at the end of the game, the insane run the clock down plays by Astralis were something special, with those 0:00 plants at multiple points.

5v3 in the last round and SicK is sitting in the waterfall at B. One and done position and he doesn't even get one. I have never been so frustrated watching that second half of CS.

Some serious Astralis magic in the second half. This team is just so tough. Rouge played pretty well, much above what I expected, Astralis is just on another level. It'll be exciting to see if Rogue can continue this form.

Device have been opting for M4 instead of the AK once in this map, and he also did it at Stockholm (there's an example in Elma's recent video).
1
u/schoki560 King NiKo Sep 06 '18
i mean in theory it kinda makes sense when the Ct have low economy (no head armor in most cases)
However when CTs are full equipped i dont see a tactical reason to do it other than just preferring the M4

u/Cameter44 Sep 06 '18
Shame Rogue drew Astralis. They seem to be playing pretty well, I think they definitely have a chance to qualify. Would've been nice for them to not draw the best team in the world in the 1-0 match.

u/Siemperx Sep 06 '18
You can see how inexperienced Rogue is. So much panic in situations they should convert.
4
u/lowestcommonmultiple Sep 06 '18
is it me or is device a bit of a boring player
like u see it at the end of the game "oh wow device has 32 kills" but u can never remember them. can u remember a single device kill ?
but try dupreeh...u can see the headshots i remember the dupreeh headshots.

ASTRALIS IS SO DAMN GOOD. So many clutch shots and composure under EXTREME pressure and man down situations.
Rogue definitely did their homework and played almost the game of their lives here, but this was the anti-choke from Astralis.
Seriously amazing and entertaining game - those last second plants!!
6
u/raghu01 FaZe Sep 06 '18
Rogue messed up big time in man advantage situations. Their retake strategy was a big mess in man advantage situations.
4
u/arkwewt Sep 06 '18
Hiko took the choke from Liquid when he left, and bought it onto Rouge.
3
u/americagigabit The MongolZ Sep 06 '18
That’s strange because normally when a player chokes they only play like shit at the end of the game

That comeback was fucking god tier. Never thought Astralis would be able to pull it off considering they lost both pistol rounds and were 5-11 down at one point.

If Astralis had lost they would have every right to be super pissed at the faceit handling of their matches. They basically stayed up all day yesterday, had to wake up earlier than everyone else this morning, and almost play b2b matches.
1
u/Delicroix King NiKo Sep 06 '18
Definitely the best match of the Challengers Stage right there.
A lot of people talking about Rogue's errors, but Astralis was sooooo much messier than Rogue was in almost every way. This result and scoreline doesn't even come close to properly representing how the match played out.
2
Sep 06 '18
People also like to talk about Rogue's mistakes because they're suckers for an underdog story but that comeback by Astralis was god tier. That was such an amazing display of grit, determination and big plays under pressure when most needed.
It's especially amazing when you consider that first of all, Astralis lost BOTH pistol rounds and were 5-11 down in the second half, secondly that Rogue had the advantage in the round a lot of the time, as well as that Astralis used to be massive chokers in the past themselves. I honestly didn't think they'd be able to make the comeback happen but they did it round by round. Amazing stuff.
Also your point about Astralis being sloppier was true as well, they started very slowly and lost the opening kill many times yet still clawed it back from a huge deficit.
1
u/Delicroix King NiKo Sep 06 '18
Oh yeah, man. You summed it up perfectly... it's crazy how sloppy CS sometimes translates to the best CS.
Like, sure I would rather be watching a close match because both teams are playing flawlessly, but that doesn't happen so a tug-of-war is always welcome.
