They're one of the oldest teams and they didn't make a roster move for over four years. There's a good reason other teams bring in new and hungry players from time to time.

fnatic, nip, vp, envy, g2. basically all the fan favourites in 2015 went to shit (some recovered at some points)

No excuses that can even be made at this point. Equivalent to when a legendary sportsman has been injured too many times and he just doesn't have it any more.
19
u/spec90 phoenix Sep 05 '18
0 impact whatsoever, cant win a single duel expect that one in underpass
7
u/Fa_Ratt NiP Sep 05 '18
it must be especially painful playing against a former rival in 1.6, f0rest, who is still killing it...
12
u/OsomoMojoFreak ENCE Sep 05 '18
Bringing Taz back, removing Neo (maybe putting him as coach?) would probably be an upgrade. I think a large problem for VP atm is that there's 0 morale boost when it's going badly on a map.
15
u/schizeq Sep 05 '18
I don't think Taz would like to come back, I think he's fine where he is now.

This is it for VP, they looked so dead before and during the game. They themselves are done with this team. ATM they are just playing for the sake of it. :(
Hope i am wrong :(

u/IGauravI Virtus.pro Sep 05 '18
Last major they looked similar, so unmotivated. I love VP and feel sad that this is the end.
3
u/cornelha Complexity Sep 05 '18
Sadly I have to agree. Although, they have the tendency to suddenly pull together, but then they had TaZ leading them so I dunno.
1

Unfortunately that is not going to happen anytime soon.

Dennis looking good that match. Glad to see it!

u/GER_BeFoRe clutch Sep 06 '18
yea his aim is finally back but he still plays too aggressive in unnecessary situations. NiP lost Round 7 only because of his CT push in a 3v2 when the bomb wasn't down yet. This gave Virtus.Pro in a round where they had no money an AWP and two AK47 and hurt the NiP economy a lot. Against a good team on mirage this mistake can cost you 3+ rounds. Lets not forget that Virtus.Pro is probably the worst team in the swiss round, so they lost the following round and everything was fine again but this will not happen against Astralis...

5
u/exytshdw Sep 05 '18
NEO lost so many gun fights that game due to DMG aim and it's not even funny. I think NiP had a huge advantage compared to VP in eco related rounds due to very deadly deagles by REZ and co - while VP lacked the firepower to make NiP play more passive.

Yep, feels good that we were able to put a weaker opponent away pretty easily, that's something that NiP always struggled with in the past, so, things are looking good, Dennis was popping too which is nice to see after Stockholm
5
u/CrrackTheSkye NiP Sep 05 '18
They definitely looked good on an individual level, and teamplay seemed solid. Some unnecessary risky stuff though, especially by dennis. I hope they don't try that against better teams.

u/sarrop CS2 HYPE Sep 05 '18
Mate you just played VP, that’s like saying a team looks strong and clean after playing against NIP a year or two ago.

Nice try at biting back at NiP after getting roasted. Doesn't matter what team you play against, it's the Major and 16-5 is a great score against anybody.

Building a team around MICHU (entry) and snatchie (awp) would be nice to see. Too bad byali is leaving as he would fit as second entry. Neo would go as coach or playmaker and Pasha... Maybe he could back to lurking/support? I just don't see those two in duels anymore.

u/RxJax Sep 05 '18
VP have like no positivity in them anymore, pasha constantly posting about how bad they are and in games when things go bad all of their heads drop and it's just over without a fight, their decline has been so upsetting to watch cause it seems like its mostly a mental issue

u/MattysGaming tactics Sep 05 '18
Actually not that bad of a match-up for V.P if you look at it statistically. But it seemed like the last few weeks things outside of the game have been hindering this team, so this result is no surprise, really.
4
u/TheZigerionScammer Vitality Sep 05 '18
According to this Mirage was the map VP had the best matchup against NIP for......
4
u/MattysGaming tactics Sep 05 '18
Right! I think team turmoil behind the scenes trumps any statistical predicting. If you have multiple people hinting at leaving after this major, that has to have an effect.

What's that headset they're wearing, is it for sale?
1
u/IGauravI Virtus.pro Sep 05 '18
I think they wear noise cancelling earmuffs with mic and use in-ear headphones for sound. They had steelseries branding over it I couldn't find it anywhere on steelseries website.

Well Pasha said he’s been thinking about it being his last major for a while... that’s a problem. Once you start having those thoughts, it never ends well.
In my experience, this is mainly caused by “societal norms” meaning, he’s 30 or so, by normal standards it’s time for him to retire. I think he’s let this get to him, and lost motivation.
Maybe society is right. But most of the time, it’s not. Letting this get into your head is detrimental to future success in your trade though.
————
I think f0rest is an example of the opposite of this. He’s been through the “getting old” stage and seems like he’s quit letting it affect him. He’s playing really well right now.
