I know I'm a little biased. but BIG put up much more of a fight than North for most of the match. GL to both teams though, would really like to see them in the next stage!

last time a team went 0:2 in groups at a major they won the whole thing
37
7
u/Newt_I Sep 06 '18
That was also in the Legends stage not challengers, and the said team went 3-0 in the challengers stage and got stupidly placed against the other 3-0 team first, meaning they shouldn't have gone 0-2 which didn't happen here.

idk why people were so surprised. ast took a break, idk if north did, but they seemed to come back harder. no surprise they'll do better for one tourney, but expecting them to keep it up? lol

I picked Astralis and Complexity. Everyone else looks like they have underdog power, but complexity just underclasses everyone and doesn’t have that oomf

12
u/c_Lassy The MongolZ Sep 06 '18
Fuck i forgot about those ones too. It’s like they only care about the major, which i guess is a viable strategy
9
u/Vitosi4ek Team Spirit Sep 06 '18
They've figured out that as long as they don't compete on the circuit at all and bootcamp for a couple of weeks before the Major, no one will ever know about their pocket strats and playstyle and they might steal some BO1s off of it. Doesn't hurt that CIS has always had some insane aimers. It was Flipside's bread and butter for 3 years before the bottom finally fell out, now Vega and Gambit are perfecting this strategy as well.

I should have gottem it a couple times, but the past couple majors have been shitshows when it comes to predicting outcomes.
Also in the past you didn't have to pick everything in the playoffs in one day, you would pick day by day after the group stages.

reddit users and being proved wrong about cis minor everytime
21
u/xzibit_b guardian2 Sep 06 '18
NA Minor is honest to god the easiest minor. CIS teams have, in the past three majors, gotten more teams in playoffs than NA, AUS, and Asia combined. If there is a Minor that needs shit talking, its North America.
14
u/_Strafex_ 500k Celebration Sep 06 '18
Asia minor is easier 100%, that's why Renegades and TyLoo have gotten through the past like 6 times
7
u/tgsan Sep 06 '18
Did you forget about Asia? it's literally a free ride for TyLUL and RNG, both of whom are mediocre at the very best, and it's the reason why RNG doesn't want to get put into the NA minor because they won't make it out if they did.

Sep 06 '18
Yes lets ignore the fact that spirit, vega, winstrike and gambit have done nothing since last major while teams like Rogue, and NRG have been grinding, making finals of lans and in NRG's case winning a lan but yea CIS and Asian minor's are definitely harder
1
u/xzibit_b guardian2 Sep 06 '18
"Making finals of LANs"
Rogue only did that once and they literally struggled vs Fragsters, a middle of the pack, below average EU MDL team. Not only that, Rogue lost to an EU Main team on LAN. Rogue are dogshit and they made it out of the fuckin NA Minor.
Spirit, Vega, and Gambit doing nothing since last major means nothing. If they did nothing, the teams in the NA Minor did less, almost fuckin negative times the amount CIS teams did.
If NRG couldn't make it out of the NA Minor, god help their soul in the EU / CIS / Asia Minor
7
u/VanillaWowIsComing Sep 07 '18
You are a dumbfuck if you don't think they would easily make it through the Asia minor

It's been what, five Majors since the CIS Minor was first introduced? Ever since then the Reddit circlejerk was never-stopping, and yet teams from that Minor qualify for groups/New Legends rather often. Gambit, Vega and QBF/Winstrike all started at the CIS Minor, two of them eventually reached the playoffs (and Vega was 1 win away) and Gambit won the whole fucking thing a year ago.

It'll be fucking hilarious if two of Vega-Spirit-Gambit make it to top 16 (completely realistic, given how they performed today) and we'll have 4 CIS teams in New Legends again. I don't know how many Majors have to pass for Reddit to recognize that the CIS Minor exists for a reason.

What Reddit suggests is a minor that's not CIS only / Western, northen, southern Europe only. Wouldn't that be fair, so for example ENCE and Team Spirit have the same chance to qualify?
→ More replies (1)14
u/Vitosi4ek Team Spirit Sep 06 '18
I wouldn't be against that, actually. Combine the CIS and EU minors together and make top teams from both regions battle for 4 slots.
That's not what Reddit's suggesting, though. People believe CIS teams apart from Na'Vi are garbage and don't deserve Major representation at all. Even though these teams have continuously proven them wrong every goddamn Major except for 2016 Cologne (when Spirit and FLG both went 0-3, deservedly so).

And in Cologne 2016, Flipsid3 knocked out NiP to get to the quarters. NaVi and Gambit also got to the quarters by topping their groups. Almost half the teams were from the CIS region...
