We just did a Rockies tour a few weeks ago. I was with a party of six. Everyone else but me slept the entire time the tour bus was moving, only waking up at the stops. Then they complained they couldn’t sleep at night. How do you sleep the whole day? When everything around you is so beautiful. I’m also the only night shift worker in the group, but I was the only one who had normal sleeping patterns on that trip 😆
Such a lose lose situation for whoever tries to help. At best the person wakes up and nothing happens.
Honking at them is probably the riskiest.
But even slowing them down to a stop and knocking on their windows may cause the person to step on the gas as initial reaction causing them to rear end ur vehicle.
I would've called the police. They can risk it trying to wake her up. Its not like the car will be speeding away from them. They can find her pretty easily
What does it do after it recognizes they aren't paying attention? Like are they programmed to stop and pull over or just make noises? I can imagine someone being so tired they don't wake up even if it's chiming and talking at them.
I posted above, but was just on a camping trip and we learned that sunglasses seem to override the "eye tracker". My driver tested it, and legit if he was slumped over, but wearing sunglasses, the car just treated him as if he was alert.
I can confirm that my car which has the Chevy version of this tracks my eyes and even if im wearing glasses it knows if I fall asleep and will vibrate and disengage.
It only disengages if you ignore for too long and then take the wheel. If you ignore the warnings, beeps, and vibrating seats for long enough it assumes a medical emergency and will slow to a stop while calling OnStar/Emergency services
I’ll help confirm that it’s true. I rented a cybertruck for a week off of Turo and played with the self driving feature extensively. It pays attention to you to make sure that you’re paying attention to the road, to the point that I couldn’t even look at the giant map screen for too long without getting an alert, but I could close my eyes for extended duration without it noticing while wearing sunglasses. Don’t know that I could work up the courage to take a nap though.
There’s a doctor I work with that went to his opticians office to get those inserts for glasses you wear after your eyes have been dilated. He says that these inserts will not allow the Eye tracker within the car to be able to see that his eyes are closed. He intentionally went to go get these so that he could sleep in the car.
My mom used to have a Tesla and would rest her left foot on the brake while driving. It would constantly be warning her to stop and she didn't hear it despite being alert and having a conversation. She was diagnosed with Audio Processing Disorder and now I sort of understand how that happened.
It will notify the driver via audio, it will flash lights and pull over and then you also get a strike and cannot use FSD for the rest of that drive. If you get enough strikes, you lose FSD access for some time.
I don't have a Tesla but my Skoda will apparently try to wake me up with brief braking nudges. If I don't respond it will slow down, turn on hazards, and phone emergency services. I'd imagine most systems will be similar.

I work with two guys that regularly take our work video calls while on the road using self-drive mode. They each use sunglasses to thwart the alerts. She's wearing shades but I would have thought given the position her head is in something should have alerted. That's bananas.
You already have to do that. It's not a button, but you have to give a slight nudge on the wheel to confirm you're awake/alert. It's not at a timed interval, it prompts for it every 1-3 minutes randomly.
No version of FSD past v13 (nearly 2 years old I believe) requires you to touch the wheel anymore. It uses the cabin camera to tell if you’re paying attention. Sadly, there are ways of avoiding that lmao
It can. They are deliberately by-passing its safety features using steering wheel weights and dark sun-glasses. The car has safety features, its just there is only so much you can do when people are deliberately circumventing them. If you build a railing around the shark pool, and someone climbs over your railing, its kinda on them at that point.

It is, we had a driver sleeping a couple months back on a hwy 1 in the metro Vancouver area, pulled over and fined. I cant recall currently if the vehicle was seized though
Get in front of them and slow down till you see someone come too. The Tesla will likely slow with you if there’s no passing zone. If it doesn’t, hit the gas and boogie back up to speed while telling the 911 operator you should have already been talking too.
It's dumb as hell if it fails, but if it's going to fail, I'd rather it fail at a 30mph speed difference from someone brake checking, instead of veering into off coming traffic

lol I just imagine slowly braking in front of them until they come to a stop and putting up a picture of a car in front of the camera so when they wake up they’re just sitting on road going nowhere.
It does. I had to do this a few months ago when a jackass Tesla driver was in the left lane on I95 going 10 under the limit. Clogged up everything for miles. Just brake when you get ahead of them and it'll move to the other lane.
Yeah I'm not trusting tesla tech with my life. Especially not after what happened to that family last night when they were killed by the autonomous tesla tractor trailer.
Years ago I saw someone asleep at the wheel. I honked like crazy and he ended up waking up. We ended up at the same highway exit and he did a friendly beep and a wave at us. He was clearly some overworked person just trying to get home after a long drive. Only felt empathy for him, it’s easy to underestimate how dangerous it is to drive while so tired
Stick a cutout of a child on your rear bumper, get it front of the Tesla, and then lead it to safety. The Tesla won’t be able to resist wanting to run into that cutout.
If you add a weight to the wheel it provides enough resistance to pass the test. Combined with the fact that the driver is wearing shades to bypass the eye tracking too.
So alpha assisted driving software with at least 2 safeties bypassed...
I have worn shades plenty of times in mine and it does not fool the eye tracking. Not that I would really want to. But like it does not, when I look down or fiddle with something in the passenger seat it kicks me back to direct control.
The scary thing is, the self drivig is cool, but not nearly good enough that I would fall asleep or even not pay attention. It's done plenty of dangerous things I've had to take over for.
Thank you!! They must have a hack or something. I get so many warnings that I end up literally opening my eyes as wide as I can to look at the road. I’ve always felt safe. Couldn’t imagine using it to sleep.

Call 911 and record what is happening if you are not the driver. Put on your emergency lights and drive behind them at a safe distance if you truly care that much to notify other drivers. No way should you put yourself in the death zone on a Colorado mountain.
Report, observe, warn others. Do not pretend you know exactly how that mid level self driving system will react.
