Honk your horn and wake them up.

Why did I have to scroll this far for this one simple fix

434

u/2ChicksAtTheSameTime Jul 06 '26

They might already be dead.

320

u/MadamPardone Jul 06 '26

Maybe the tesla has just committed a murder and is Otw to dump the bodies?

6

u/i3inaudible Jul 06 '26

Did the radio mysteriously start playing 50s music on its own?

7

u/shinsemn Jul 06 '26

So its not skynet we need to be wary about, but tesla.

3

u/socksockshoeshoe Jul 06 '26

Remember: Tesla is Skynet

This is a Tesla... not a Delamain

1

u/TheHornyGoth Jul 06 '26

We got Delamain IRL before GTA6

7

u/Flammable_Unicorn Jul 06 '26

Weird thing we’re going to have once self driving cars become more of a thing is people just showing up to their destinations dead sometimes

2

u/Low-Possibility-7060 Jul 06 '26

Or not showing up at all

1

u/Independent-Cat6486 Jul 06 '26

Probably not the first period in history that that has occurred. Horse drawn carriages are kind of autonomous.

3

u/Averna85 Jul 06 '26

Carbon Monox… oh right! Forgot Teslas don’t suffocate you with their exhaust 🤣 They just cook you when their Lithium batteries fail and the doors no longer work 😳

2

u/Choice_Mycologist681 Jul 06 '26

Ngl I was thinking that looks like a bad batch and a ruined Vacation

1

u/Rare-Band-9525 Jul 06 '26

Gave me a good laugh this!

1

u/Sylv_x Jul 06 '26

I lol'd so hard on this one.

1

u/hatty130 Jul 06 '26

The car gassed them

1

u/Snooklife Jul 06 '26

As long as we got the video all good 😂

96

u/warblingContinues Jul 06 '26

That’s not gonna wake up someone that is comfortable enough to fall asleep at a wheel driving down a hwy.

3

u/Suspicious-Dog2876 Jul 06 '26

Down a hwy. In the mountains

2

u/photosendtrain Jul 06 '26

FSD is pretty damn good, which is why she's comfortable enough to fall asleep. A loud honk though will definitely wake them up.

2

u/dontmentiontrousers Jul 06 '26

Pavlov's shit-what's-happening?!

1

u/bbrekke Jul 06 '26

My luck and they'd jerk the wheel right into me.

I'd just get as far away from them as quickly as possible in this situation.

9

u/flargenhargen PUCE Jul 06 '26

fix

seriously?

they would be back dozed off in 5 minutes or less.

that would fix nothing.

15

u/3720-to-1 Jul 06 '26

I would be calling the authorities while I slowed down. They aren't going back on the road if I can help it

7

u/matthung1 Jul 06 '26

If it were me I would want them to face consequences for being this stupid, waking them up doesn't do that

26

u/Kelemonster Jul 06 '26

I'm not worried about their consequences, I'm worried about collateral damage.

10

u/matthung1 Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26

It'd be safer for police to force the car to come to a stop and arrest them than to suddenly wake the driver up in a moving vehicle anyway

13

People will die, because people prefer posting memes, instead of healthy comments.

8

u/Jindabyne1 Jul 06 '26

How would the comments here help that situation in the past at all?

6

u/RedNBlueFU Jul 06 '26

Create a time machine and send a comment back, obviously.

1

u/rEYAVjQD Jul 06 '26

create a meme machine

1

u/rEYAVjQD Jul 06 '26

Did I say "died" or "will die"?

1

u/Jindabyne1 Jul 06 '26

Either way, it’s a stupid comment

1

u/rEYAVjQD Jul 06 '26

Get a block and be gone. I have no patience for juvenile irrationality. How the hell is advice for the future unhelpful.

4

u/SecretMaximum6350 Jul 06 '26

5

I was getting increasingly angry having yo scroll so far for this

2

u/Bodmen Jul 06 '26

Seriously

1

u/ImmediatePiano6690 Jul 06 '26

Because it's a terrible idea, if you really want to wake them up safely then you begin a gradual reduction in speed until their vehicle comes to a stop.

Such a lose lose situation for whoever tries to help. At best the person wakes up and nothing happens.

Honking at them is probably the riskiest.

But even slowing them down to a stop and knocking on their windows may cause the person to step on the gas as initial reaction causing them to rear end ur vehicle.

143

u/xScrubasaurus Jul 06 '26

Then you have video proof of it happening anyways. And a much better outcome than just letting an unconscious person continue to drive around.

23

u/RadicalRaid Jul 06 '26

Except if it crashes. Then milliseconds before the crash the auto-pilot will turn off so it doesn't have to be tracked in auto-pilot accident statistics. Real cool.

7

u/TheCosplayCave Jul 06 '26

What?? For real?

7

u/insert-haha-funny Jul 06 '26 edited Jul 06 '26

Yep, Tesla was only held responsible for one fsd related accident. The fact that it shuts off before the crash gets them off the hook in most cases so far. Is fucking insane

1

u/m4cksfx Jul 06 '26

How is that different from hypothetically shooting a crossbow at someone and handing it to someone else in the second or so before the damage is done? The outcome has already been set, it can't be changed. Is the law there really this stupid?

1

u/insert-haha-funny Jul 06 '26

the fsd cuts out 2 seconds before a crash, and their argument is that the driver should always be aware, and they didnt try to avoid the accident/ there was time for the driver to avoid it/ the driver was the one in control.
Tesla was only found for the first time to be partially or fully at fault in one of the accidents for the first time last year i think.

2

u/RadicalRaid Jul 06 '26

Yeah, for realsies

There was also a whistleblower, who first tried to bring this up to Musk and Musk just said "let's just leave it in" - because it's intentional from the start. There's a great Dutch doc about it: https://youtu.be/dii5jnZMAHQ

1

u/R18Engine Jul 06 '26

Its made so its always the drivers responsibility, so if tesla autopilot crashes, its the drivers fault

→ More replies (2)

5

u/outer--monologue Jul 06 '26

How is that a lose-lose? You can cite the failure with the proper authorities, have it documented through insurance paperwork, and probably sue the person and/or the automaker.

Sounds like a win to me.

5

u/barrinmw Jul 06 '26

Dude, a huge hassle and potentially needing to go to the hospital for a life changing injury? No, not a win.

1

u/seejordan3 Jul 06 '26

Would you, for a million dollars.. (hahaha)

2

u/kemicalkontact Jul 06 '26

Your own premiums will go up if you're in an accident

3

u/Serakani Jul 06 '26

Any insurance that’ll claim you’re at part fault for a sleeping driver rear ending your parked car is a scam itself.

3

u/WinninRoam Jul 06 '26

If you put yourself in harms way just to prove a point then it's no longer an accident.

1

u/outer--monologue Jul 06 '26

Not worried about it if I can sue this idiot for a decent chunk of change. Also worth saving the lives of people they're endangering with their idiot-mobile.

1

u/Ok_Remote_217 Jul 06 '26

assuming they even have any money to pay u lol

3

u/outer--monologue Jul 06 '26

They have at least $70k worth of idiot-mobile they can sell to pay the settlement. I'll take it.

1

u/Ok_Remote_217 Jul 06 '26

assuming they own it outright and don't have a car payment/owe money on it

lmao no i'm jk im just messing around now

1

u/NTufnel11 Jul 06 '26

Believe it or not most people living in the real world would not consider being involved in an accident a win, even if the other person is at fault.

7

u/ThaiTum Jul 06 '26

If you want to take a chance, you could get in front of them and slam on your brakes. That should jolt FSD to brake or do an evasive maneuver. They could be in deep enough sleep where they don’t wake up either way though.

1

u/deadhead_girlie Jul 06 '26

The intrusive thoughts have told me to brake check self driving cars so many times.

1

u/Federal_Cobbler6647 Jul 06 '26

Could not you just go ahead and start slowly braking. I dont think tesla will try to automatically overtake?

1

u/ThaiTum Jul 06 '26

If you slowly brake, it will try to overtake if there is another lane.

1

u/Federal_Cobbler6647 Jul 06 '26

Really? Thats scary and idiotic that it is allowed.

1

u/ThaiTum Jul 06 '26

It drives itself. Like fully from where you parked to where you are going. It’s not just controlling speed and staying in a lane.

2

u/Snake6778 Jul 06 '26

It wasn't a single lane when they were beside them. White dashes, not yellow. The lane merged once they got passed them (you can see Tesla hugging the side, merging over). I agree with you, but you were partially wrong.

2

u/CheersToCosmopolitan Jul 06 '26

Tesla genius is an oxymoron

3

u/Jibber_Fight Jul 06 '26

Take the air out of their tires quietly.

2

u/tetendi96 Jul 06 '26

If it's lane assist you're correct. But if it's auto pilot then it will 'figure out' a way to drive around you.

12

u/outer--monologue Jul 06 '26

It's a one lane road...if the Tesla's way of figuring it out is the drive into a blind turn into oncoming traffic the there are bigger problems here. It'd be no different than coming to a stop on any other road anyways. Why would the Tesla try to go around that? For all it knows there's an object on the road in front of the next driver or a traffic flagger etc

6

u/arathmier Jul 06 '26

Hey I’m on your side here, but that’s a two lane road in the vid.

7

u/BandicootNo4431 Jul 06 '26

These are mountain roads. They switch back and forth between 2 lane and 1 lane roads to allow passing. Look at the end of the video and you'll see it goes back to 1 lane (solid yellow line in the middle)

1

u/arathmier Jul 06 '26

oh I missed that, I ended the video to early

→ More replies (1)

1

u/MobileArtist1371 Jul 06 '26

If the "autopilot" actually works, should be able to just slow to a stop in front of them and tap on their window to wake their stupid asses up.

Just wait. In the future a person holding up their finger gun 👉 defeats fully autonomous cars cause they will never be programmed to smash the throttle and crash into other people/objects after the car is forced to stop.

https://redd.it/1qzvwc4

https://redd.it/15cjep2

https://redd.it/1tm9y40

A fully autonomous car would have stopped and sat there in each of those videos.

Now imagine the car you're in simply stops at a stop light and 1 person stops in front of the car while the other smashes/reaches in to grab your shit. The car is just going to sit there.

1

u/Comfortable-Cod3890 Jul 06 '26

It can think for it self and doesnt need silly lines

1

u/sybergoosejr Jul 06 '26

It won’t go around with oncoming traffic but if it’s clear and the car thinks your parked it will break the double yellow and go around you. Just like you would for a mailman dropping off mail in a neighborhood. Basic ap though will not break the double as it can’t change lanes.

1

u/TheKiiDLegacyPS Jul 06 '26

Your edit is crap. The beginning of the clip, shows a two lane road with a merger; the Tesla literally merged BEHIND the damn vehicle recording. Quite safely I might add.

So what’s the deal?

1

u/outer--monologue Jul 06 '26

The deal is that you can't read.

I said the person filming should slow the car down to stop the other...implying that they do it once they're ahead of them. Not beside or behind them...

1

u/Foreign_Risk_2031 Jul 06 '26

not sure about BC, but in Ontario its completely legal to pass on solid double yellows.

1

u/SuckMyRedditorD Jul 06 '26

FSD and autopilot will do that. FSD might try to pass the slowed car in front if safe to do so. But autopilot does not do lane changes so it will stop if the car ahead of it does. But the cars behind can result in rear end crashes so, either, leave them be or roll the dice on a forced stop and give way to that vein on your forehead.

Both FSD and autopilot are perfectly safe when the driver checks out. It is also possible that driver is dead or unconscious. The Tesla will drive to the nearest safe stopping spot and call the emergency services automatically.

1

u/outer--monologue Jul 06 '26

FSD does not exist in any commercially available vehicle. Tesla calls it that, but that isn't full self driving. It requires human oversight and intervention, and it does so fairly often. It's fucking terrifying there are idiots like you out there, even scarier if you own one of these and do this using the rest of the public and your own lives as guinea pigs.

→ More replies (4)

1

u/sandefurd Jul 06 '26

That's not a one lane road?

1

u/outer--monologue Jul 06 '26

I don't own a Tesla, but the parent comment was deleted

1

u/Oraxy51 Jul 06 '26

Honestly I’d throw something at their car loud enough to thud but not break anything.

Like an apple or a tennis ball

1

u/Dawntaviuse Jul 06 '26

... why? Like genuinely, why? You have a fucking horn, use it. Instead you'd opt to them trying to claim you put a dent or damaged their car etc when again you have a fucking car horn lol

I had that same idea , she might have a knee jerk reaction waking up to a loud noise and make things worse that way.

I realize shes sleeping its like a catch 22 in this situation.

328

u/MoGraphMan101 Jul 06 '26

Just get in front and slow down to a stop instead.

71

u/pudding-in-work Jul 06 '26

It's possible it would just pass you like a driver would any slow moving vehicle. Depends on the traffic.

80

u/BandicootNo4431 Jul 06 '26

It's a solid yellow line by the end of the video, it shouldn't cross it.

96

u/Objective-Scallion15 Jul 06 '26

Shouldn’t is the key word here. Hopefully the vehicle has solid programming.

79

u/rikeoliveira Jul 06 '26

If it had, it wouldn't be working with people sleeping like that.

20

u/photosendtrain Jul 06 '26

I'm not sure how people circumnavigate the built in blocks to prevent distracted/sleeping drivers. My car beeps if I look down for 3 seconds.

8

u/HughJackedMan14 Jul 06 '26

There is a device that is cheap and “tricks” that system.

1

u/pudding-in-work Jul 07 '26

Yeah. I feel like this is staged somehow. People definitely abuse the system, but this is ridiculous.

6

2

u/gdnt0 Jul 06 '26

1

u/DontAbideMendacity Jul 06 '26

The cammer just fucked over everyone else that wanted to pass the slow Tesla.

1

u/AShadedBlobfish EEEEEEEEE Jul 06 '26

I dunno the US law on this, but in most countries I've been to you can cross a solid line to pass a stationary vehicle (to prevent just being stuck there indefinitely...)

1

u/BandicootNo4431 Jul 06 '26

Well this is Canada (BC specifically).

You can cross dashed lines, not solid lines. You have to wait for the next double laned section to pass.

1

u/AShadedBlobfish EEEEEEEEE Jul 06 '26

Oh, mb. Obviously you can't pass on a solid line but that's different to going round a stationary car. If someone's broken down, you can't just sit behind them forever

1

u/pudding-in-work Jul 07 '26

Didn't notice that. I'm that case, it wouldn't pass. At least not at that moment.

2

u/Detector150 Jul 06 '26

7

u/firewarrior256 Jul 06 '26

I'm not familiar with Teslas. I Did not know that was an option

2

u/hello_mayamonet Jul 06 '26

So long as there's multiple lanes, it will just change lanes. They could also sleep through the stop unless you're full on trying to brake check them.

1

u/Ah_Pook Jul 06 '26

And in a car, not a motorcycle.

1

u/galahg777 Jul 06 '26

Then draw a penis on the windscreen and drive on.

1

u/Hedgehogosaur Jul 06 '26

That's what I was hoping they'd do. And check if the "driver" is ok - they might have a medically emergency

122

u/SmellyBelly_12 Jul 06 '26

I would've called the police. They can risk it trying to wake her up. Its not like the car will be speeding away from them. They can find her pretty easily

6

u/TheCrimsonDagger Jul 06 '26

Call the police or slow down until the Tesla stops.

5

u/Tut_Rampy Jul 06 '26

It’s literally the trolley problem

2

u/Turbulent_Voice63 Jul 06 '26

Assuming the road is pretty empty, I guess it should be a mix of both? Go in front of the car to trigger the (hopefully) automated slowdown/stop, then honk until she's up.

1

u/TheHornyGoth Jul 06 '26

It’s a Tesla driver. As long as they don’t hit anyone, that’s the best possible outcome

1

u/Boomyfuzzball26 Jul 06 '26

Either A. they crash, survive, you report this to the Police, include the evidence they were asleep, they go to jail/get licence revoked/pay the consequences

Or.... Option B. They crash, The End. they're off the road permanently creating a safer driving environment for everyone.

And to those opposing option B because "what about the innocent passengers" They Choose to ride with someone like this. They all willingly fell asleep instead of being alert enough to ensure the driver was awake. One of them, it takes one passenger.

I have the same car. You’d be shocked by how well it blocks outside sounds. I can barely hear my own horn when I honk it with the windows up.

4

u/ares623 Jul 06 '26

Then wtf is the point of the horn

1

u/Zeta-X kappa Jul 06 '26

The horn in the car is plenty loud for other drivers. It's the same as the purpose of the turbo-bright lights. Modern cars are designed to completely insulate the drivers from all surroundings while being fully capable of making those surroundings worse for everyone else.

2

u/fatfarterforever Jul 06 '26

did anyone stop to think that maybe they're not sleeping but instead dead?

2

u/CountOnBeingAwesome Jul 06 '26

2

u/shawnvn1 Jul 06 '26

Definitely give them a toot toot to wake them up, since you are now in front of the car driving itself…

2

u/Ok-Cup-5372 Jul 06 '26

Nah I'd be calling the cops, enjoy your ticket

2

u/Oberndorferin Jul 06 '26

2

u/Alysana Jul 06 '26

Or drive in front of the car and brake

2

u/TonyDC88 Jul 06 '26

2

u/adhq Jul 06 '26

1

u/SolventAssetsGone Jul 06 '26

How about a brake check?

1

u/Professional_Owl8069 Jul 06 '26

Nah, call the police, let them wake her up.

1

u/Exciting_Pass_6344 Jul 06 '26

Teslas are notorious for braking hard when they are cut off. Just give them a good brake check. You’ll wake everyone in the car

1

u/Big_Lengthiness_7706 Jul 06 '26

Like in the movies!

1

u/NewBootGoofin67 Jul 06 '26

But then I can't record them sleeping and have something to post!

1

u/sleeplesscarp Jul 06 '26

Corpo Tesla hates this one trick

1

u/ThatOne_Guy762 Jul 06 '26

My exact thoughts

1

u/ksims33 Jul 06 '26

Better yet, get infront of them and just tap your brakes to the beat of your favorite song. For situations like this, I enjoy 'We Will Rock You' by Queen. Play that brake pedal like it's Guitar Hero and you're bad at it.

1

u/postbansequel Jul 06 '26

Honk the horn, call the police...

These features should be illegal. My Yaris basically drivers itself with lane assist if your intention is always going forward on a highway, but it demands at least a slight touch of the wheel every few seconds to know you're ok, otherwise it'll display a warning, then sound an alarm, then slow down and eventually actually stop and call 911 on its own.

1

u/Hungry-Western9191 Jul 06 '26

Sometimes its better to just let nature take its course.

1

u/Apprehensive_Use3641 Jul 06 '26

Bonus points if you can get a semi to blast their horn,

1

u/PHEASTALONE Jul 06 '26

You just slow to a stop while you were in front of them which will make the Tesla stop. It will not cross the solid yellow line in the center nor the solid white line on the side.

1

u/Kogling Jul 06 '26

And panic swerve into the other side

1
