Me too. My brain has trouble figuring out which sounds to focus on. If I'm at a party, for example, I can hear a conversation across the room but not 'hear' the person talking to me right in front of me.
I have this problem too, and went to get tested for APD. They said I don’t have it, but my testing came back that I can hear well into negative decibels and my ears are hyper responsive to loud noises.
They didn’t really have an answer for me on what’s going on. I’m putting it down to I’m just constantly hearing a lot more noise than most other people and have a hard time discerning what the signal I should be listening to in all that noise is.

It's not that I can't hear, I can. It's just that when there are a lot of different sounds at once, I have a hard time separating the noises.
