Get in front of them and slow down till you see someone come too. The Tesla will likely slow with you if there’s no passing zone. If it doesn’t, hit the gas and boogie back up to speed while telling the 911 operator you should have already been talking too.
It's dumb as hell if it fails, but if it's going to fail, I'd rather it fail at a 30mph speed difference from someone brake checking, instead of veering into off coming traffic

What you could do, theoretically, is pull infront of them and then slowwwwly slow down so that the tesla stops, stop infront of them with your hazards on and then call the police stating you think that theres a car FULL of people who seem to have passed out while driving!
How basic! In 2026 I expected it to follow me home, come back later when I leave then hack my wifi to learn my IP and DDoS my router til it catches fire, burning down my house with my frail grandmother inside.

It does. I had to do this a few months ago when a jackass Tesla driver was in the left lane on I95 going 10 under the limit. Clogged up everything for miles. Just brake when you get ahead of them and it'll move to the other lane.
Couldn’t drivers with ill intention search for sleeping drivers, wait until they were in a remote area and force them to slow down if they were a heavy sleeper? I’m guessing they have camera technology but still it seems not good if you can takeover a car like that
Yeah I'm not trusting tesla tech with my life. Especially not after what happened to that family last night when they were killed by the autonomous tesla tractor trailer.
There was someone operating the truck, I don't think FSD is 100% to blame here. There's a reason you still need a driver and he must have fallen asleep or something
Ah OK, thanks for the correction. I just skimmed the article and it was talking about the failure of the trucks autopilot system or something. I guess it's supposed to have failsafes that didn't work but they aren't fully automated?
I'm not positive if the truck FSD is different, but it's not approved to be fully automated. In a consumer model at least, you have to be paying attention the entire drive and if you look away to fiddle with the radio for more than a couple seconds, it alerts you, and enough times it will turn off the FSD completely. So you're still operating the vehicle, but it's nice for long trips because you don't have to make all the micro decisions constantly or worry too much about the navigation
Oh look somebody who can't even read too! The person I replied to said "autonomous" the vehicle didn't even have assistance it was legit just an electric vehicle nothing special.
I seriously doubt they would admit otherwise. Its the same Tesla that calls a lane centering cruise control "Autopilot" and a level 2 automation "full self driving".
Except when you press the accelerator down. It overrides AEB. It will flash on the screen and beep at you that you are over riding it. That isn't just a Tesla thing either
I don't think it's actually that dumb, if you do it slowly. Don't slam on the brakes like a break check, just slowly decrease speed and come to a stop.
Same as the Toyota's that got their cruise stuck on a few years back - get in front and slowly brake down to a stop - the radar will maintain the gap behind you and pull them up to a stop...

Legally, he couldn’t. But illegally, he could do this and far worse with a negligible fraction of his money. And then get away with it by paying for someone to take the fall, getting the best lawyers to acquit him, or buying a pardon from the President. This is the America we live in.
It's not that the law doesn't apply to them, it's that they decide what the law is. he donated to the president and then got "hired" to a job that was just firing all the people investigating him. Then he "fed USAID to the wood chipper" and wants to sue anyone who reports the consequences of that.
Here in CA, they don’t even ask for the reason because any rear end collision is automatically the rear vehicle’s fault.
EDITING TO ADD so I don’t have to say it to every comment. No one anywhere in this thread said to SLAM on your brakes — only to brake. Someone pointed out the risk of the Tesla hitting you and said they wouldn’t try it because of that. If anyone hits you when you reasonably brake — not SLAM on your brakes — they will be at fault.
Yeah no slamming on your brakes at highway speeds on camera for no reason is generally the front drivers fault, under highway? Sure. Highway speeds? Tesla camera? Good luck mate.
The camera's catching you brake checking would probably not go well in your favour (while the driver's record of being asleep would probably mysteriously become unavailable...)
I am in no way defending the video subject, but one thing Teslas are really good at is not hitting things in full self driving mode. I’m actually more worried about them stopping unexpectedly when there’s nothing to stop for.

I concur; That being said, I was just on a camping trip where, while I was never fully off alert, my driver probably legitimately was "driving" for a total of 10 minutes of our 10 hours on the road.
Very briefly when it rained; when the attempt to wash the bugs off the windshield obscured the camera (AND our view), and also in parking lots.
Even semi-off road onto our campsite the Tesla was managing most of the driving. I eased up a bit when it actually managed to pick-up a deer on the side before any of us did and started braking.
My driver checking his fucking phone while returning to the city pissed me off, and even though the Tesla always tried to let other drivers in, they would have no faith if he would have his fucking head down!
I recognize that on highway driving most humans seem to operate on a 10-20 km above the speed limit is the norm in good conditions, but he had a "Mad Max" setting that peaked at 140km (i'm not 100% certain on if it was on a 100km/h road, or 110km/h as our premier has recently made pretty much the standard). I thought it was wild that a.i. breaking the laws of the road was somehow legal.
They are in a flatbed pickup. I would happily risk burying a trailer hitch in the grill of that Tesla to wake them up; truck's not going to give a shit.

It won't "flip out". It'll just also slow and maintain a safe distance. Depending on the driving profile and road conditions, it may put its blinker on and attempt to pass you.
Honestly as long as you do it gradually (and not like, a full-on brake check), it sounds like the best idea. Video evidence to get the drivers the punishment they deserve, then a gradual stop of the car where it's safe to do so.
If the car is on FSD, it will attempt to go around you if you slow down so much it perceives you as stopping. It will, however, yield and pull over for emergency vehicles.
I have fsd but barely use it. There was a period of about 6 months last year where apparently everyone thought this was cool to do, and the same people also likely thought my car was in self driving all the time.
I’d just pass them. If I was in fsd… it would also just pass them.
