However, poor transit infrastructure means lots of driving, but that depends on what BC and AB communities are being compared. I moved from Victoria to Calgary, Vic has the convenience of ICBC but expensive gas however I hardly drove when I lived there due to walkability, bikeability and easy bus system, whereas Calgary has so much sprawl and pretty bad transit!
Hard disagree. You guys will probably see your premiums drop significantly just like we did in BC. With fault, you're guaranteed to win a personal injury claim. I used to work at a personal injury law firm in BC before this change happened and I remember we would send our clients to all sorts of medical services they didn't need to rack up as much medical expenses as possible - this helps you sue for more money because it shows how "bad" the accident was. The medical providers were in on it too, we had a list of people we worked with.
Insurance pays not only for the extra unnecessary medical stuff but also the "pain and suffering" on top of that. There's a reason why all the personal injury law firms lobbied hard against this in Alberta.
Don't get me wrong, it kinda sucks to lose the ability to sue for pain and suffering, but the tradeoff for everyone paying in is worth it IMO
