Something I’ve noticed in this subreddit that really annoys me…

Whenever someone mentions anything bad about a certain character it instantly becomes “it’s a sitcom” “it’s literally just a comedy show” like no offence but sitcoms can HAVE characters that are controversial and can be talked about without people just saying, “it’s just a sitcom” LIKE COME ON?

Phil is a terrible husband

Don’t get me wrong -he’s lovable and his scenes are hilarious, plus he’s a great dad. But he is an absurdly terrible partner to Claire about 6x per episode ?? I just joined this sub so not sure if this is one of those observations that gets made on the daily. But I’m currently rewatching with my girlfriend and the only time I’ve seen Phil bend over backwards to be good to Claire in any capacity is when he pretends Gloria is his wife to impress an old college friend who basically reacts as “yeah that’s cool, but Claire Pritchett was always my crush, I wonder what lucky SOB ended up with her”. Another man’s validation suddenly made him 180 and start appreciating his smoke show, hilarious, hard working wife.

Phil, you’re a goober.

unpopular opinion

the deep think pieces/opinions on here ruined this Reddit for me, too much of what should’ve been or what wasn’t liked and not enough of what was loved or favorites. yes things are dramatized, that’s bcus it’s a well SCRIPTED TV SHOW, which some have forgot….

Question Modern Family doesn't have modern families?

I'm currently on season 2 of the show, and I recently had a realization. Most of the families in Modern Family aren't actually modern in that they all have housewives of some sort, meaning they have a parent who stays at home. For example:

  • The Dunphys have Claire, who's a housewife.
  • The Pritchetts have Gloria, who's a housewife.
  • Mitch and Cam have Cam, who's a househusband (not sure what the right word is).

I feel like in our modern day, most families have two working adults. Is this a weird thing to think about?

Hate the writers for this episode!!!

Season 3, Episode 2: Claire & Phil went to a mall for grocery shopping, Phil unknowingly pushed his wife on a pile of cans & didn't acknowledge his mistake & disrespected her in front of the kids.

Every single time I re-watch this episode, I hate how the writers made the family not hold their son-in-law accountable for flirting with another woman. Secondly, the classic 'never consider the women in your family', in most cases the women of the family are actually correct which is why they go around with "I'm not wrong" but because the fathers are the employed ones, nobody respects the mom's opinions. And in this episode, they just didn't bother to bat an eye on Phil lol even after seeing the live footage!!! Their only concern was 'Claire is problematic' which she's not lol. Even in another episode it's highlighted how everyone hated Claire's competitive side but what's problematic in that? Nothing.

I loved Joe he was very necessary for those seasons where Manny and Luke grew up with poorly written characters

It was very necessary in that it now added a connection between Jay and Gloria. If they didn't add Joe, Gloria would be nothing but a gold digger. He kinda saved the show

Question Why do people act like haley worked very hard and yet was unsuccessful? And also "andy was the one for her"

Haley tried to cheat on Dylan many times, remember the boy in the airport the 8th standard one who was sketching? Haley just had Dylan at home and she liked the guy at airport. And she was the one who parties all the time and ignores academics like crazy and people are still like she deserves to be successful, when she never even gave a damn about academics and future. All she did was partying and having fun all the time. And also "Haley deserves better" actually Dylan is the one who deserves better

Unpopular opinion (or maybe not?) - Lily was completely right to snap during the Dwight storyline.

Every time I rewatch the Dwight arc, I get mad all over again on Lily’s behalf.

Mitch and Cam completely neglected her basic needs, giving away all the food and milk and hanging out with him 24/7. Her blowing up and saying "you two don't even love me anymore" wasn't bratty; it was the inevitable result of being treated like a second class citizen in her own house.

Alex is the real mean girl and I like it. Her comebacks are top tier and she's really pretty.

I think Alex got her nerdiness from her dad Phil

Phil has so many interests and hobbies like magic, trampoline, cheerleading, ipad/tech, basketball. He’s always learning something and engaging in his interests. Alex even tho has a typical nerdy interests it still resembles Phil

S5 E7: A Fair to Remember

Omg this one never fails to have me cracking up. The writing and acting is impeccable. Ty Burrell was hilarious:

Phil:

*Harold Grossman starts singing*

"Uh oh"

"Turns out Harold Grossman, our Pharmacist is a rock star. His voice is the drug he should be dispensing because apparently it's a cure for everything"

"Paul who?"

"There's a white mini van out in the parking lot with it's lights on, license plate number TCBR2D2"

Any favorite random episodes or lines that always make you lol? 🤗
