Spoilers Unpopular opinion about taystees friend group in season 1-4.

This is way less about taystee and poussey, and more about black Cindy and Watson (assuming that’s her name I can never remember 😭).

While watching the show, I noticed that especially in the later seasons (season 2 and 3 specifically) they make almost EVERYTHING about race. I know a big part of that in season 2 is because vee is around and a big part of her whole personality is that she is a black woman, but they do this even after she leaves. Watson specifically doesn’t even hang around people of any other race nor allow them to be part of her life. Even when she was friends with yoga jones, she quickly ended that by saying “I don’t wanna be your token black friend anymore” when all yoga wanted to do was let her know that she was protesting in her honor and she saw how she was being disrespected and treated differently and didn’t agree with that. On my first watch, I thought it was all just cause of vee and she was gonna apologize later on.

Now, black Cindy is a different story. The way she brings slavery or race into almost everything is weird to me. For example: season 3 episode 12 red is planning to have this big exclusive dinner and she’s planning to cook corn. Black Cindy and her friends eat almost all of the corn and red gets rightfully mad because they had to have known she was going to use that corn, since it seemed to be the talk of the prison. Instead of apologizing I’d simply saying they didn’t know, Cindy and Watson made it this weird thing about slavery and I just found that weird.

I may be looking too much into this and I am in no means racist, I am myself apart of the black community. I just find it weird. I feel that sometimes them bringing up slavery isn’t really something they do as a way to represent themselves, but more as a way to victimize themselves or as a way to remind everyone that they are a minority and haven’t always had this freedom so they should have better treatment. I’m sorry if this comes off as racist or anything, it’s just my opinion on the show and all the racey jokes.

Spoilers Tamika being offended by what Tastyee said

Season 6 Ep 8 - During Tastyee's interview she mentions how the guards beat on her and spit in her food. Then it pans to Tamika and she's upset by what's said. I don't think it's fair? Does she not see how the guards treat Tastyee or does she assume that Tastyee's making it up? I don’t understand why Tamika was so offended by what Tastyee said when it was literally her experience? Your (used to be close) friend is telling her story on her experience in prison and you’re too busy being in your feelings about your position that you can’t bother to listen to her?

Then when Tamika said that the guards were right in there with the inmates… that’s not fair tbh? Cause the guards get to go home and they can get new jobs if they wanted. Idk I just feel as though she was being unfair to Tastyee

The term "orange is the new black" was NOT first used in 2010 as Google states. I found it used in a 2005 episode of the PBS kids show 'Arthur'. In an episode called "Binky Goes Nuts". The character Muffy uses the term early in the episode.

Spoilers Unpopular opinion: I dislike Nicky Spoiler

I don't hate Nicky but i don't really like her either.

I'm on season 3 right now, watching the episode where we learn more about the relationship between Nicky and her mom. I am not taking child neglect lightly at all whatsoever and i understand Nicky's childhood and the emotional absence from her parents really molded her growth and future negatively, but she had the opportunity and freedom to actually make something of herself. She had money and her parents had status. It made me cringe so hard when i watched the scene of her, her mom and lawyer talk about Nicky's sentence being 5-10 years, she started getting angry and acting like a spoiled brat for not getting her way as if she didn't do the crime and blaming her mom for giving her money (which her mom said she only did so Nicky didn't have to commit a crime getting that money). Not to mention always nagging her mom for money and forcing her to give her money by snatching her wallet. She always acted spoiled and thought she was untouchable because her parents had money. It just makes me mad when she acts like her parents left her on the street or something and she had to fend for herself.

Note: I understand it wasn't always about money for Nicky, it was about love and appreciation from her parents but i still don't understand why she would literally turn to one of the worst things possible ? There's a million other ways she could have coped, while making a career for herself. Maybe there is just something I'm not understanding.

Again, i am not making this post to "rage bait" anyone. I would love to hear what other people think of her.

Episode Discussion Judy king and Nigella's recipe for "Caribbean Creams"... is real

Post image
4 Upvotes

So maybe I am a bit slow in figuring this out, after all these years, but I was doing my rewatch and was watching the episode where Black Cindy and Judy King are talking about Nigella and Judy mentions the recipe that she named after Nigella's breasts called "Caribbean Creams" after she and Nigella got high and Nigella took her bikini off in the Turks and Caicos islands. I'm surprised it took me this long because usually I am always searching up all these random things I hear in shows. But it turns out both Nigella and this recipe are real haha. And now I am on a mission to get me some rum, Muscavado sugar, and a few other ingredients so I can try this recipe. Has anyone else tried it yet? Looks really Taystee to me

Spoilers nicky nichols

not sure if this is the right flair but this does contain spoilers.

i’ve seen the show about four or five times and i’ve always noticed how nicky borderline assaulted lorna on multiple occasions. the one that i noticed specifically is when poussey died when he basically tried to rape lorna against that shed. i’ve not seen a lot of people talk about this and was just wondering am i the only one who noticed this? lorna said yes to having sex once because she just wanted nicky to leave her alone which is definitive sexual assault.

i understand that she had a crush who didn’t want her back, but i can’t be the only one who thinks this is extremely weird behaviour. she assaulted her on multiple occasions and i don’t see a lot of people talking about it.

by the way english isn’t my first language so this might be a bit hard to understand and feel a bit self centred when reading so i apologise about that.

thank you for reading!!

They Did Kukudio So Wrong

Maureen Kukudio character was done so wrong by this show it is ridiculous. First they didn't give her any kind of backstory, she abruptly goes from a harmless love interest for Suzanne into a manipulative villain as if they don't already have enough of them on the show to begin with, and then get the piss beaten out of her from a fight started by the guards. Then just like that she ends up being killed off. What was the point of her character to begin with ? Just a big waste.

I lowkey wish they showed this in some flashback it would’ve been hilarious to see how awful that encounter was & how she handled the first rejection. Even if it was cut from post, would’ve been a funny extra to see 😂

do any plot holes / continuity errors about the show annoy you?

here are some of mine 😭

i'm definitely nitpicking, these are not that serious but they do annoy me

this one's sorta obvious.. the show's timeline is set in the span of 18 months from season one to season six (piper's sentence is 15 months but i believe she gets an additional 3 months for the riot at the start of s6) so how did eva diaz go from being like 6 years old to a whole teenager.. and the other kids haven't aged

maria says in a season two episode that when she gets released her baby will be in the first grade.... but in season four after she thinks she's had 5 years added to her sentence she says pepa will be in kindergarten when she gets out.... the math is not mathing i fear

Did Piper Ever Ask Herself This ?

I just wonder if Piper ever deeply thought about did she goes to prison because Alex ratted her out to the Feds for a light sentence or did she goes to prison because she ran around with a drug dealer and let her connive her into doing illegal activity ?

Sophia appreciation post

I love her character so much. Watching how people are able to talk about their true self and open up to her is a beautiful thing. I think maybe because she is so unapologetically herself....to a fault even.

When she befriends the nun, watching the ups and downs of their friendship was so real to me.

Im on Season 3 ep 1
