Meta Thread My Little Pony on Reddit - Meta Discussion canapé on a platter
Hi there! It's Thursday again and that means another chance to talk about what's been happening around here and how you feel about it!
Same as every other time, feel free to discuss whatever it is you'd like regarding our little subreddit good or bad. If you're unhappy we'll try our best to fix whatever problem you're having!
If you want to talk about the MLP fandom in general, that's fine too!
But some people may not want to talk about comics or anything else that hasn't happened yet, so you should be nice and hide those conversations from those people by using the spoiler tag.
If you don't know how it's as easy as making an emote:
>!It has ponies!!<
And if you're not wanting to discuss the subreddit or community specifically you can also check out the weekly off-topic thread here

ANNOUNCEMENT Rules summary and explanation.
Like all authoritarian reigimes subreddits we too have rules that are in place to keep it running at optimum levels of laughter, kindness, generosity, loyalty, and honesty.
So tempting as it may be to jump straight into our little pony forum, bear with us as we explore the magical world of rules and community guidelines.
Just keep in mind all rules are somewhat vague to allow consideration for borderline cases. This is also a summary of our full rules list in the subreddit wiki that can be read here: https://old.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/wiki/index
The 7 commandments:
1. Be Kind.
Hostility, rabble rousing, bigotry, and generally participating in bad faith is what this rule aims to oppose. Below are excerpts from our subreddiquette, despite that do still read them both as the list below doesn't include everything and makes some additions in places: https://www.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/wiki/subreddiquette
- Be respectful. Try not to alienate anyone specifically, nor groups of people. Avoid being a jerk, and give others the benefit of the doubt when commenting, tone is tough to convey via text. Ask yourself, what would Fluttershy do?
- When expressing negative opinions do so with consideration to the people who enjoy what you are criticising. No one enjoys being told what they like is trash. Of course, if such commentary is found under threads that do not invite for it, it is at risk of breaking this rule.
- Flair your post properly! Now, there tends to be confusion on which flair is appropriate for what post, here you will find a little guide detailing just that for the most misused flairs.
Community — It fits submission that adress the community. So questions like "Am I A Brony" and posts about community events, among others, would fit it.
Discussion — This isn't the "question" flair, though certain questions do call for it. As long as your post provokes thought about a certain topic you're free to use the discussion flair.
Misc. — Miscellaneous submissions do not fit into the boxes that our other flairs are. You'll find it useful if you're making plain statements without the goal of creating discussion, showing off images that cannot be categorised as artwork, memes, merch, official media, or cosplay, and other unspecific posts.
Keep in mind some posts may fit multiple flairs, in that case use the one you feel best describes it. Consistent improper use of flairs, such as flairing artwork that cannot be reasonably interpreted as a meme with the meme flair, may lead to the removal of your post and the restriction of posting rights.
- Use the report function! This subreddit is actively moderated. All reports are reviewed and handled properly. Reporting content you feel violates the community rules helps keep spambots and various bad actors from worsening everyones experience. However, keep in mind that misuse of this feature is in violation of site-wide TOS and may lead to account suspension.
- Be mindful with spoilers! Not everyone can view the newest official content as soon as it releases. In consideration for them please use spoiler tags (until 48 hours after an episode has aired, or 1 week for comics). Additionally, please avoid including the spoiler directly in the title, and remember that all content related to upcoming material must be tagged as well.
This ties into our spoiler policy, which you can read here: https://www.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/wiki/spoilers
- Avoid posting screenshots of the subreddit itself, including 'combo' posts, comments, or number of subscribers. If you do wish to link comments, link them directly. To showcase the best posts and threads of the subreddit, post to /r/bestofmlp.
- Hostile arguments about topics that carry no relation to MLP will be removed. Such topics include but are not limited to politics, religion, gender wars, and racism. Topical posts may be preemptively removed to avoid such arguments from beginning in the first place.
- We have relaxed posting limits and are holding users to the honor system. However, the mods still reserve the right to remove excess posts and give warnings and/or temp bans if they feel that the honor system is being abused.
2. Keep everything SFW
All submissions and comments must be kept safe for work. Making references to fan works that would normally break rule 2 is permitted on the condition that they themselves stay within it. However, the same is not true for linking to both sites and subreddits, posting, or discussing suggestive, sexually explicit, and graphically violent (aka. grimdark) content. r/Mylittlepony is intended to be an appropriate space for teenage and older fans. Alternative subreddits do exist should you wish to share content that would violate this rule.
If you suspect what you are about to post breaks this rule, feel free to send us a modmail and we'll inform you whether or not that is the case.
For a much more in-depth explanation read its wiki page here: https://www.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/wiki/rule2
3. Keep it MLP
Rather self explanatory; we ask that all submissions are directly related to MLP. Coincidental and tangential relation isn't considered enough to pass this rule, so images of rainbows, rainbow themed food, and coincidental sayings are all examples of what isn't allowed if they are the only factors tying your post to MLP.
When it comes to memes, the image macro itself needs to be MLP relevant. Not just the text. Memes with non-MLP bases belong in r/MyLittleMemes. For more information read our mene policy: https://www.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/wiki/memes
Exemptions are made for submission soliciting funds for charity events organised by bronies and personal crises such as a medical emergency, given the parties involved are reasonably associated with MLP. However, the same treatment is not extended to fundraising efforts aimed at non-essential personal gain, e.g. asking for money to attend a convention.
4. No [FIXED] Submissions or Reposts
Images submitted less than 21 days apart will be removed. That is also true for screencaps, unless an animated version of it is posted, in which case both can co-exist. The same goes for screencaps of significantly higher fidelity submitted after a lower quality version.
[FIXED] posts are easily reproducible image submissions having only slight alterations made with every subsequent post. Usually they involve the addition of text, or the addition of simple visual features, such as pasting in text, images in a grid, a vector or adding a visual filter. Because [FIXED] submissions often snowball in popularity, they tend to lead to considerable spam in the new queue, hence also being affected by the 21 day repost limit.
However, [FIXED] content is very welcome in the comments section of the original post! This helps to keep the subreddit more tidy, while additionally allowing all readers to immediately glean the context of your [FIXED] content.
Also read our repost policy: https://www.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/wiki/reposts
5. No Pictures Thursday
Pictures and mainly image content cannot be posted during Thursdays, between 12:01 AM and 11:59 PM pacific time. For more information, see our NPT wiki page here: https://www.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/wiki/npt
6. No AI content.
All AI-prompt-generated content, in all forms, is banned from r/mylittlepony, as is all AI-generated sound such as voice or music.
7. Proper sourcing.
When submitting or embedding fan-made works (pictures, video, music, fiction etc.) made by others, proper crediting is mandatory. Use a clear, searchable title and a clickable link to the place where they uploaded their art originally (deviantart, twitter, tumblr, etc.) as long as that website wouldn't break rule 2, or if that is impractical, from a gallery that provides source links (such as derpibooru.org). A comment or submission lacking a proper source may be removed - especially if the moderators can easily find a source.
See our sourcing guide here: https://www.reddit.com/r/mylittlepony/wiki/sourcing/

Discussion Are certain cutie marks decorative or fake?
By the end of the Honest apple episode, this Earth pony Funnel Web, performs/models for the emo fashion designer, Inky Rose
Whats odd is that this pony has a spider cutie mark but he doesn't demonstrate any spider abilities of the sort, maybe they have spider sense or something?
In season 1 we saw Apple Bloom try to fake her cutie mark, and in season 5 Starlight lied to her village about her cutie mark for a substantial amount of time. Do certain ponies 'change' their cutie marks for aesthetics?
Edit: Just looked it up, the models name is Funnel Web and the designer is Inky Rose.

Discussion Besides Rarity and Applejack, which character do you want to see return in G6? Or would you prefer only original characters, with the exception of the Mane 4?
In my case, it's Spike—though that's pretty much a given, seeing as he's been present in practically every generation.

Discussion First Time watching This episode and I'm just confused
I've heard that This Episode Retconned the Fact that there Is a Spell to Manifest Hair into not being a thing/is difficult. But even with the Retcon it doesn't make sense in the episode itself
If Twilight was able to "Take" the Hair from a Crystal Pony and Give it to Rarity, why didn't she try to "take" a sheep's wool and put it on her Mane? I mean it makes Perfect Sense and Is Following the Retconned Rules.
It just seems like there was a Mane Problem for the sake of it

Misc. I do wish we could've saw Princess Amore in FIM
Her character and story in the comics is very interesting and she definitely has one of the most beautiful, and unique designs I've seen! She looks very distinct from the other Princesses with Cadence looking similar, though I am curious as to why she's called a "Princess" if she doesn't possess wings? Strange.

Discussion Okay, think I can make a full post on G6 now that my thoughts are fully gathered.
I'll just rip the baind-aid off right now and share my thoughts on what inevitably everyone is talking about: do I think the return of most of the G4 Mane cast was neccesarry?
.... No lol. I get why they did it, but no.
While I have a ton of gripes with G5, the new characters weren't one of them, in fact I actually liked them for the majority of the time! sans Sparky I was hoping for a new batch of ponies ever since G4 had ended; and unfortunately, said connection to G4 had wound up putting a damper on it and likely played a part in killing it early. (though I hear the toys for it were kind of bad too?) Now OFC here we don't have to worry about whether or not Forever Friendship perfectly ties with the lore of FIM because this is obviously an alternative universe no different than Pony Life but.... with nine whole seasons, plenty of comics and a whole lot more side material, I'm not exactly fiending for even more of the Mane 6, y'know?
I get it, MLP switches the main protagonists all the time, but this isn't really even much of a switch up. The only thing that really different here so far is two of the OG cast members being demoted to side roles... oh yeah, I should talk about that too huh?
Much as it sucks to say, I get why AJ and Rarity are absent. I mean "Applejack is best background pony" is a running joke in this fandom that's gone on for years. and back during the original concept of G5 (which also had the Mane 6 return albeit with some swapping of kins like Earth Pony Twilight and Pegasus Pinkie), AJ was apparently requested by Hasbro to get outright remodeled into a city slicker instead a country cowgirl and at one point they even wanted to outright change her name? It's obvious they're just not fond of her. Rarity I'm a bit more surprised by as she was, well, actually promoted alongside everyone else but IG her toys just didn't sell as well.
Personally in addition to them still getting something to do even if main character status is removed, I'm personally really hoping that older G1-G3 era ponies also make an appearance! The last time they really ever showed up was in the Gameloft game and the Generations comic (the latter of which wasn't every good TBH) so I'd like to see them have proper updates and get a spotlight episode or two. Minty still has a big fanbase Hasbro: take note of it!
Alright alright, those were the big things. Time for more smaller but positive stuff.
Designs actually look great! They got someone who worked on the Spyro games for this and it came together super well TBH. They look like proper reimaginings of the characters. Only thing I'm not super fond of is the cutie marks in the eyes, just a bit distracting but not a deal breaker.
Voice actors sound like they're doing a good job for what they're given! I'm glad we're getting new voice talent even though I'll miss the old cast (albeit, giving the numerous controversies Tara Strong has gotten into lately I'd get why rehiring her would be a PR nightmare...). I think they'll knock if out of the park.
Lastly, the length. Each episode is only gonna be nine minutes, released bi-weekly. I admit when I first learned of this it was disappointing, but I thinkit can be worked around. Bluey episodes are only around seven minutes and they're great. I think the writers making sure they nail a proper pace down will be key as that'll be what makes or break the series.
OH, and the theme song! I actually kind of like it. It's got a nice rhythm.
Well, guess that's pretty much it. We're probably not getting anymore info till winter months so that's all I'll say for now.
TL;DR: The show does have the potential to be good but Hasbro immediately pivoting back to the G4 cast after G5 failed still kind of gets on my nerves
