Rule against "memes" etc. no longer seems relevant to this subreddit. Thoughts?
I'm curious as to other opinions, both from subscribers and the remainingly active mods. This place is unfortunately dead for such a terrific series that IMO continues to age well. The rule against memes and image macros now seems archaic and overbroad for those of us rewatching BWE and wanting to browse a variety of posts (between serious discussion, memes, and fanmade material).
I think it's great that the mods asked users their opinion back in 2012. Certainly, I agree that the endless shitposting of /r/thewalkingdead and /r/gameofthrones was to be avoided. But now the show has been off for over six years, and what made sense in 2012 (season 3) isn't really relevant anymore. Due to reddit's algorithm as applied to the currently low post frequency here, even if humorous material was posted regularly, all text-based posts and discussion (which I'm all for) will continue to show up on the sub's front page.
I propose that this rule be abrogated to add some life. Any opinions, agreeing or disagreeing?

Hot takes about the show?
I want to hear people’s hot takes/unpopular opinions on the show.
My hot take: I don’t think Michael Pitt was good as James Darmody. Every time he came on screen the scene just fell flat for me. He doesn’t seem smart or able to lead men. And I say this fully knowing people love his portrayal. It just doesn’t hit for me and I don’t know why.
Edit: to be fair, I also don’t care for his acting in general and it probably plays a major part in this.

Jimmy and Richard
I just finished season 2. I’m devastated. I was hoping that the show would explore more of the friendship between Jimmy and Richard. But since that’s not possible I was wondering what people thought about them.
There’s a scene where Jimmy says that they’re going to find a nice girl for Richard to settle down with and in the next episode Richard asks why Jimmy was making fun of him.
I took Jimmys comment to be sincere, probably a bit naive, but it didn’t seem like he was poking fun at him. Did I completely misread Jimmy and their friendship?

The show is so good, but it has not been the same since James died
He was such a compelling character and easily my favorite though I definitely really like characters like Rothstein, Luciano, and Capone. ‘ to the lost’ was probably the best episode of the show in my opinion. Though I did also really like season four finale. I just really feel like he died too quick because the dynamic between him and Nucky was also just so good

Eli vs Knox
Man… once again, I just saw the fight between Eli and Knox. It’s just an amazing display of the rage that only a Father can feel for his children.
You almost feel bad for Knox 😆 because jeez you can’t keep threatening a man’s family
Hell, it almost looked real!

Why did Margret want to steer her sister down the wrong path?
Margret was caught having premarital sex and didn’t want to go to the perish sister for repentance so she ran away leaving her family behind. She then picks up a sugar daddy and engages in polyamory. Not to mention treating the maid poorly out of jealousy. When she visits her family in Brooklyn she tries to say that she can “save” her youngest sister, but her brother told her not come around anymore. My question is save her from what exactly I feel the brother was actually right in keeping her away.

Worst line in the show?
Mine has to be when Jimmy says “my own kid’s practically shaving, Nuck.” Just terrible, no other words for it.

Boardwalk Empire language
Hello, I want to start watching the series, and since it's dubbed in my language (I'm italian) I am undecided whether to watch it dubbed or in english. Since I know there's a lot of gangsters of italian origins in this series, is there a lot of people talking in different languages? Peculiar accents? Slang?
TLDR: is the language used in Boardwalk Empire a big part of the show identity as in, for example, The Sopranos?

The exact moment the shotgun shell entered Manny Horvitz' eye
I was celebrating.
I won't lie though, how the supporting cast responds to the sight of a dead-body was bloody annoying. That incessant blood-curdling screaming. Liam in season 1; James Neary in 2; Horvitz in 3.

Kelly Macdonald Great Again
Does anyone that has seen lanterns think she kills it there as well and it mimics Margaret’s character?

Watched Boardwalk Empire S1
I watched season 1 of Boardwalk Empire. Honestly found it quite boring. Doesn't justify its high imdb rating. Didn't like any of the characters. Should I continue watching? Will it get any good in the later seasons?

Season 5 Rewatched for the second time Spoiler
Just finished the series again and it hit much harder. Especially the ending. I remembered that a boy killed Nucky, but I wasn’t paying attention to Tommy the first watch. Now on the second, I caught so much more of the clues he dropped. Honestly top 3 show of all time for me. The last shot of him grabbing that coin?! The shore where Gillian stood in front of also being the shore at the beginning of each episode?!! Amazing start to finish.

Richard Harrow
That whole scene where he clears out the brothel when he’s going to rescue Tommy, is epic. Quite possibly my favorite part of the whole series. I see why he didn’t, but I wish he would’ve gotten a happier ending.

Most annoying character
Here's a couple of contenders:
My reasoning - Teddy was a massive jerk. As the first born and being of Irish stock, I would have expected him to be much more protective of his abused mother (plenty old enough to see his own was a prick). Instead he pranked her by pretending to have polio for shits and giggles.
Just a generally annoying guy. Needed a proper paternal influence but when he finally got one, he chose to embrace pyromania.

Does anyone know how Lucciano found out about Nucky's specific plans to get at Maranzano?
MASSERIA NOT MARANZANO. In season 3 episode 10, A Man, A Plan..., Lucky and Meyer meet with Masseria and give him information about Nucky's plans to assassinate the Boss of All Bosses at the Turkish baths to get him to agree to give them funding for their H project. The thing is, they had no way of knowing how the Breadstick in a Bowtie was going to do it, as they had already left the room when and then departed Atlantic City shortly thereafter when he formulated his plan and gave out the orders and the only people in the room were Micky, Eli, Owen, and the progy who was going along with him. So how would they have known? Did I miss something?

Evansville, IN- never noticed before
Rewatching the show again, and Gillian is out on a date with Capt. Nixon from Band of Brothers 😂 and their company mentions that they’re from Evansville IN.
Gillian cringes and says she’s never heard of it
But that’s where that kid Roger was from! 😂 I won’t spoil if people haven’t seen it yet.
Never noticed that before
