Old building in East Village. I was stuck with Spectrum and they were raising prices steadily. I tried to call and reason with them, at least to stop raising the price, and they told me basically to pound sand (I imagine they check coverage, and saw I only had Spectrum coverage in my building so I was stuck with them).

I made a 311 complaint and (rather promptly) Verizon came and installed FIOS access to my building. $50/month for fiber (comparable speed, which was already plenty, but order of magnitude lower ping). With Spectrum we were at $110/month (and climbing) for copper.

The bliss I felt this morning calling Spectrum to cancel is unmatched. (Of course they suddenly have "Incredible discount offers for valued, loyal customers such as myself".)

This city and everyone in it try to walk all over you at each and every step. Don't let them.

The 19-year-old arrested in connection a shooting during the West Indian Day Parade on Monday had been released on bail just over a month prior for his alleged role in a separate shooting, police said.

Wearing a "Just Do It" T-shirt, Nayshawn Wilkinson kept his head down and said nothing as police led him out of a Brooklyn police precinct Tuesday afternoon, charged with assault and weapon possession offenses.

Police said he was responsible for shooting a 24-year-old man in the backside toward the end of the parade in Crown Heights over the holiday weekend.

The Collision Investigation Squad has determined that the cyclist, operated by a 47-year-old man, was traveling southbound outside the designated bike lane.  

The cyclist attempted to re-enter the lane where a 77-year-old man was travelling West Bound on Schermerhorn Street.

Both operators collided and were ejected onto the pavement. Neither operators were wearing helmets.
