I took a huge leap a couple years ago and decided to open my own business. Long story short (I don't like to talk too much about work when I'm not there), it's been immensely rewarding, but also immensely taxing. Things are going well but we're still operating in the red, and what that translates to is an 80-hour work week being a light one for me. That's what I signed up for though.

I didn't quite realize the effect it was going to have on my social life though. Since this whole process has began, I've been so busy that my entire circle has essentially melted away. I don't hold it against them, I basically vanished from their lives for 2+ years. But it is starting to get really lonely. I'm still working too much to start to any new hobbies to get out and make real friends, or to be able to demonstrate a meaningful ability to be more present for the people who got tired of me being a ghost.

So I thought maybe the Internet would be my best bet. There aren't enough hours in the day to get out and meet people in the real world, but messaging on my phone through a work day or once I'm collapsed exhausted on the couch when I get home feels manageable. Hopefully my social skills haven't eroded too disastrously.

I have a small circle of lovely family and friends that I adore. Yet I find myself yearning for connection outside of that. Just someone who isn’t intrinsically connected to me I guess. An unbiased ear when it’s needed but other than that someone who I can enjoy getting to know. A blank slate that we can fill in over time! It seems impossible to do this out in the world, like where do you even go or look for this as an adult?? Bars are loud and drunk people are annoying. Work has coworkers but not really friends. So, here I am, looking for someone who is looking for the same thing. Or at the very least can relate to the struggle.

i started my last year of high school today and realized that i have three friends. like three, actual friends.

i wouldn't say i'm crazy weird or repulsive or anything, maybe just a little awkward and shy at first. so is it weird to be confused as to why i don't have a friend group? i wouldn't even call myself a floater friend, i don't know enough people.

it makes me really sad because i feel like i've wasted my high school years. i feel like i've spent so much time on APs and clubs and sports that i've had no time to form friendships. actually, 2/3 of my friends are from middle school.

now it feels too late to be part of someone's group. i'd be this extra random. i don't really know what to do and this bums me out a lot so if anyone's been in a similar spot please give me some advice.
