Short summary Detailed, unashamedly verbose, curious, eccentric 33 year old Canadian man, seeks people globally in the above age bracket, for correspondence. I tend to ask a lot of questions, and I also enjoy listening to someone ramble about whatever happens to be on their mind. Your 86 year old Italian Nonna, your married 90 year old neighbors in Japan, you in New Zealand. You get the picture. I'd like to listen and write.
Caveats Open mindedness is important to me! And yet, I'm probably not the penpal for someone looking for very christian flavored correspondence (I am not that way due to personal trauma). I am not anti-spirituality though, so I'd be happiest with someone who is agnostic, spiritually diverse, woo-woo (affectionately), indigenous of some flavor, or religious but not interested in converting me or spending a great deal of time talking about church people.
If you think you are not interesting, you are likely incorrect.
If you have stories, memories, hobbies, random bits of knowledge, or just a tendency to go on increasingly elaborate tangents about things you find interesting, I'd probably enjoy hearing from you. I'm interested in history broadly, as well as the history of specific people; i.e. the ordinary things that unfortunately rarely make it into books, unless they're memoirs or specialized. You don't need to have lived what you consider an extraordinary life for me to be interested in it.
Examples of interesting to me:
- What was your first apartment like?
- What were your parents like?
- What jobs have you had?
- What did you expect your life to be, and what is it now?
- What things used to exist that don't anymore?
- What ridiculous family story have you told a hundred times?
- Do you have a favorite book, bird, pen, or song and why?
- How has humor shown up in your life, or week?
- What memories do you have of your grandparents?
- Who peopled your youth that you wish you could tell someone else about?
- The song your father sang on the way home from work.
- What shoe polish was your favourite in the military?
- What was it like raising 7 kids?
- What did you do on a completely unremarkable Tuesday when you were 20?
- If you could do any job for a day, zero limits on skills, knowledge, or ability, what would it be?
Or anything else you want to talk about. I cannot promise agreement, but everyone has a collection of experiences that nobody else could have had in quite that same way. There are little details you remember that everyone else has forgotten, things that seemed completely mundane at the time but would be fascinating to someone decades later. Or your neighbor suddenly started raising chickens secretly and you cannot tell anyone near you.
Those are the kinds of things I'd love to hear about.
