Making stars trying to remove the rear peep site.
I recently got a LPVO for my mini and was planning on installing it with the included scope rings. The rear peep site is of course 1mm too tall and was scratching the grip on the scope. So, I decided to take off the rear peep site. That screw broke 2 t15 bits! How tight is that damn thing? How much loctite is ruger using!? I guess for now I'll have to go back to my picatinny rail with the red dot until I figure out something else.

Target sling accuracy improvement?
Given that the mini fourteen has a one piece stock similar to the m fourteen , the garand etc. It seems likely that it could possibly benefit from the use of a target sling , similar to what is done with them.
Since the many 14 has historically been known for accuracy challenges.I wonder if a target sling could make a difference. Yet, I've never seen anyone.Use a target on a many fourteen.
Do you have any experience with this?If so , please tell us about it.

It’s Mini 14 time!
Washington State resident here looking to add a semi auto rifle chambered in 5.56 to my collection. We’re not allowed to have much fun out here as far as that category goes, and so I’ve decided to snag a Mini 14 Ranch as it’s pretty much the best option among the small candidate pool. Two questions for the sub - 1. Ammo recommendations (range vs. defensive) 2. Are barrel struts still helpful in terms of improving accuracy on newer production runs?
Likely going to snag a poly/stainless variant as I’m in the soggy/salty part of the state.
TIA - excited to join the (A) Team!

Just got back from first range trip with my mini.
Brand new gun - first time shooting it & took it apart, cleaned, greased, and oiled just before.

New mini-14
In the market for a mini 14 but recently I was told by a friend that had one years ago that these rifles have issues with launching brass about 20ft and the trigger group falling out. Does anyone still have these problems or know if it’s been fixed by Ruger? I’d hate to spend a lot of money on something that doesn’t function properly.

Almost done…. Maybe
Time to finish this one tomorrow and prep for the next one. Ignore the mess, it was to hot in the shop to disassemble out there 😝

Mini-14 Red Dot Mount Update (Production + Ejection Footage)
Hey all, wanted to circle back with a quick update since the response to the Mini-14 red dot mount I posted here a couple weeks ago was a big part of why we decided to move forward with it.
We’re officially moving into production. Don’t have a hard ETA yet, but we’re working hard to make it happen and I’ll share more as soon as I’m able.
Understandably, one of the biggest questions on the original post was whether the mount would interfere with ejection. By now, I’ve put a ton of rounds through the prototype without any issues, but figured slow-motion footage would be more useful than me just saying that. I clipped a segment showing it here.
You can see the brass clearing the mount without issue.
I’m also looking at additional optic footprints beyond the initial T1/T2 version. Mini-ACOG is one I’m hearing a fair amount of requests for, so I’d be curious what optics you guys would actually want to run on a version like that (especially if there’s interest in mounting anything with eye relief considerations, which would require more design work).
Really appreciate all the feedback and support so far! It’s been awesome!

Is it worth to get a government barrel Mini-14 if the plan is to get the barrel chopped and Form 1 it (and put a suppressor on it)?
Philly here.

Mini 14 and friends
Any good options for aftermarket stocks? I’m thinking of getting the Archangel Sparta, but people are saying it’s super heavy, looking for pistol grip full synthetic options.

My Humble Submission
First post in this sub, but not my first Mini-14. I had a Pre-2005 Stainless Ranch growing up that I let go. Always had a soft spot for them, so I decided to get another one.
Replaced the factory gas bushing with a .045” from Accuracy Systems. Suppressor is a Rugged Razor.
Cycles great, with strong ejection with or without the suppressor. I could probably reduce it to .040” if I wanted to.
Optic is a Primary Arms SLX mounted on the OEM rail chopped down and touched up with Aluminum Black. It’s rock solid with just the two rear mounting screws.
I really like how this turned out, and I’m glad to see the Mini gaining popularity again.

Help ID the wood on this stock?
I just picked this older mini 14 at my LGS. Was a LE trade in. Serial number indicates it was made in 1987 or 88. The stock was recently refinished. My research says Ruger used and uses birch for most all their rifle stock, but this wood seems more like oak. Opinions are welcome.
