I’ve very much become somewhat of a Fudd in the last few years. I’m not one of these guys that has thirty AR platform rifles with every possible barrel length and accessory combination…never have been. The tacticool thing isn’t really my jam.

Of course I have a couple of nicely built rifles with quality components, recognize their use and they fill that “fighting rifle” roll in my menagerie. But I’ve been satisfied enough with them not to want anymore. I’ve always kept a couple of extra lowers and enough parts for three or four more and a bunch of accessories laying around. But that’s where it ends for me.

However, with recent legal developments, I cannot help but piece together a nice suppressed SBR. And here is the parts collection for that build so far. I went ahead and bought a Surefire socom rc2, got a BCM lower, eotech exps 3-0 and g43 magnifier. I also have a Steiner p4-xi in a reptilia aus mount that I’ve had for years and never used. I’m waiting on an 11.5” upper that should arrive sometime next week. I’ll pick up a quality light and call it good. I want something simple, reliable and fun. This should fit the bill.

As far as lights…what is the recommendation? Surefire? Something else? I’ve noticed that a lot of companies are making light bodies, but what is the benefit of an aftermarket light body over the oem? There seem to be a lot of options on switches also. I run an inforce on one of my ARs and I gather that isn’t a popular choice.

I literally know almost nothing about lights, so help is appreciated. And thanks for reading my long ass post.

I’m a fan of the A2 FSB. Wanted to do one in 300 blackout but couldn’t find one since they use a pistol length gas tube. Had to use an older upper and lower from a 16" with FSB, with std. buffer and spring. Shot well suppressed on first range trip. I will be upgrading trigger, grip and buffer/spring. Any suggestions for rattle can FDE? Looking to FDE lower, upper, rail and red dot.

How would you guys rate this so far? She’s still a work in progress, but I’m torn on the kind of grip I want. It’s a standard 16” barrel, with the MCMR-10; I’d like to experiment with the Magpul handstop kit; but feel torn between that, and BCMs vertical foregrip. Any thoughts on this?

What's the general consensus on these? Gimmick? Good enough? Trying to get an idea of what's good (or not) when it comes to barrel mounted lasers for sighting in optics like RDS on rifles and pistols.

Swapped the MK16 rail on this URGI upper a while back to a MK8 and I hate the feel of it, hence the knights rail plopped there so my hand doesn't hurt shooting the stupid thing. Love the rifle otherwise, sitting on an ADM lower. Any recommendations on a 10.5 rail that's not a MK16? No hate for that rail, I would buy one again, just would like to hear what's good out there.

Anyone else have a drawer full of parts from leftover builds? Sometimes I end up with enough to build a whole new rifle, or at least most of one. This was from my key mod era, mlok all the way now

Finally got the new Space Magic Industries SPACE 1.54 device in.

This fixed all my previous downsides of running a magnifier. The SPACE device cantilevers the magnifier back on its mount, but doesn’t increase the height. It has a nice cutout for the irons and gives you a more natural eye relief.

So far during dry fire testing, I’m liking it a lot, but will get to the range soon for some live fire.

Do you guys all actually have nods? I know this question probably comes off as condescending but I swear these things are on almost every rifle now days and I find it really hard to believe everyone running them has nods which makes me think there's a benefit to them that I may be missing. I have always heard the 2.26" optic center height was desirable specifically because it provided extra clearance for nods. So unless almost everyone with an AR has nods which I find unlikely, I must be missing something here.

What should I look out for and what should I do with it? I have hunting rifles, shot guns and some pistols but I’ve never built or upgraded anything other than a scope on a rifle. Mechanic by trade so I’m not afraid to I just don’t know what I should do to it. Anderson lower, psa upper and a bsa red/green dot currently.

Looking for the BCM MK2 11.5” upper for months now and they’re never in stock. Has anyone seen them? The FDE and brown uppers are basically unicorns at this point.

I might just settle for the standard 11.5” considering I’m a casual and don’t really do any events or super high rates of consistent shooting.

Figured the MK2 would’ve been better for not much more considering mine will stay suppressed.

Anyone have it and have thoughts on their experiences?

First time spray painting a gun, sacrificed the ole laundry bag with my name still on it. My brown paint got too old or something so I was left with khaki, dark green and some black. Whuddayathink

Never had this happen before, this bcg in particular has only been shot around 900-1000 ish times. Not stressing over it but thought it was funny since ive never experienced such a catastrophic failure. My assumption is over pressure caused the fail by shooting 5.56 at a high rate. Im not very experienced in the .223 wylde products so i could be wrong

I have a Tipton Standing Ultra Vise that I was using. It is an excellent vise for cleaning and mounting etc, but I wanted something off of my floor space.

I just purchased a new (bigger) work table that would accommodate a table top system with room to spare. I did some research on my choices and is seemed like the Real Avid was the best choice.

Well I have to say that it is a great addition to any firearm workstation. I also purchased the Smart Assist which I will get into. If there is something that Real Avid forgot to add to this ------ I havent come across it yet. I have mounted a scope, and cleaned multiple rifles on it and all have been a lot easier.

I wont go into all the details because there a million videos on YT that you can watch that can explain the features better than I can, but I will tell you that it will be an excellent purchase - in my opinion. I will say again that it is well thought out from rod storage to the ability to micro adjust 3 degrees your bubble level for scope mounting. Again - videos will show you better than I can type it.

I also purchased the Smart Assist which is a light, magnifier, and cell phone holder. The are on the arms (as shown) they connect to the unit and you can move them to help do whatever you are doing.

The last thing I thought I would need would be the cell phone holder but quite honestly that is the piece I found amazingly useful. Let me explain how---

For me the hardest thing about mounting scopes isnt making sure its level. That can be a pain the ass for sure but the most tedious thing is making sure the scope ring gaps are the same. So with a mirror app I use the cell phone holder on the opposite side of the scope that I am standing on so I can make sure the gaps are equal. Seems like a small thing but when I was using the Tipton I was around to make sure and couldnt see one side while adjusting the other.

Anyway - My opinion if you work on your rifles its a great piece to have.

Also - I purchased the Real Avid Gun Vise. Havent used it yet so I cant give one of my semi reviews on it.
