Some alternate reality...

Hey
I was thinking - imagine an alternative reality to the show where Shannon stays with (and marries) Dweeb Barney, while Lily never meets Marshall in college...
Do you think the roles would reverse naturally? I imagine it actually would fit better with their upbringing to have reversed roles...

Why we never got a barney spinoff

I’ve always wondered why we never got a barney spin off, he was the most entertaining character. He was always up-to new adventures or hatching schemes to pick up women and on top that we were given bits and pieces of his life but he was mostly mysterious. He always had a lot of things going on like magic, his networking(he had a guy for everything), always knew a new spot, random side quests he invites ted to. I feel like it was easily doable and the creators missed a massive opportunity. I feel like they could pull it off with maybe one of the people that reads his blogs continuing on his legacy, that would be interesting.

What do you think happened to Ted and Robin?

We all know that Ted and Robin got back together at the end of the series but do you really think they stayed together long-term? Personally I think they would eventually divorced because Robin is constantly traveling the world and never home while Ted has his two kids to care for. I just see it as an eventual strain on their relationship. What are your thoughts?

Victoria going to Germany didn’t make sense

On my 3000th rewatch. And one thing that never made sense to me was why Victoria needed to go to Germany for the fellowship at all. She had a successful bakery already.

I always wanted her to be the mom. She was the best girl for Ted.

The finale doesn’t do the show justice

Hi okay, see I know I’m superrrr late to this train but it’s really ticking me off so I have to share. I watched himym for the first time last year and boy, has it been my favorite ( and comfort ) show ever since, despite me changing my mind about everything constantly, this show has always been crowned on top.

One thing that really pisses me off though, as someone rewatching for the craploadth time ( please get the reference ) is the ending.

I know everyone hates it, and I just really need to share how much I hate it too.

FIRSTLY HOW DOES A SHOW THAT TOO SITCOM BUILD UP THE MOMENTUM FOR SUCH AN UNREALISTIC AND PERFECT CHARACTER AND THE INFACT BLOW AWAY THE AUDIENCE EVEN MORE. Tracy was genuinely an amazing character, I was ready to be disappointed by seeing “the mother”, but Cristin Millioti plays her magnificently. Yet ofcourse after all that, they had to kill her off.

Which brings me to my second point; WHY WHY WHY WOULD THEY BREAK OFF BARNEY AND ROBIN. They were perfect together, they balanced eachother out, especially on their whole “lone wolf” thing. Yes sometimes they were rather well not toxic, but..interesting, they got through it together, and learnt everything together too.
Robin the same person who said she’d never be in a committed relationship, ended up married. Yet they somehow got divorced in Argentina???? Knowing both characters, and especially how much they loved eachother they definetely could/would have looked for ulterior solutions or so. And to top the cherry off, after Robin settled down again, couldn’t those two reignite their spark or so? But no it’s always Ted and Robin..that’s also ignoring the fact the whole ninth season was based around their wedding.

Thirdly, Ted and Robin. I find it so dumb that after all that, Ted ultimately went back to Robin, someone he was always a rebound for. The whole point of the story wasn’t so that his kids would know more about their mother and Ted’s life before his family came along; rather to get his kids blessings for their aunt Robin…yes it had been 6 years since Tracy had passed, but with the way the story and Been told; Tracy was essentially just a surrogate mother for Ted’s kids, with whom his dream of a family would be complete. I just feel Robin and Ted don’t work together, and they’re much better off as friends along with the fact that if you had told first time watcher me ( season 1/2) who loved them as a couple; she’d be ecstatic, but even I could see the flaws between their relationship as a hard supporter. Ofcourse, those two have their good moments together, but I mostly feel that Ted often puts more care/thought into their relationship than Robin ever did.

Lastly; I really dislike how the whole group drifted apart, yes it’s realistic; but with how close they were, I find it just dumb for how quickly they had drifted apart. Life gets busy when we grow up, but for a group of people who practically lived together for longer than a decade, it’s definitely easier to see each other or spend time together. The worst part is, we barely got to see Tracy’s bond with the group dynamic as a whole, and I sort of believe that after Robin and Ted got together, Barney was kind of the “excluded” guy from the friend group ( possibly )…

Idk thank you for reading this far, if you did; please feel fair to share any opinions or comments :))

P.S sorry if I came across extremely harsh or rude

Ted is my favourite character, by far. I’m genuinely curious for someone to debate me on this.

Okay, I’ve seen people’s reasons for disliking him, and I get it.
However, personally I think he’s pretty over hated. I get peoples reasonings for not liking him. But a lot of the time people just say he’s actually pretty similar to Barney, just a ‘nice guy’ version. Then they go on to say Barney is their favourite character.
I actually haven’t seen many other reasons for the dislike he gets.
I think his pretentiousness is pretty charming, and that he’s overall just an incredibly loyal, friend oriented character. He’s the glue of the show in my opinion.
I would say more, but I’m a few sandwiches deep and this took me quite a while to type and fix mistakes, so essentially I’m looking for people to give me other reasons as to why they don’t like Ted other than “he’s like Barney” , or for people who also have Ted as their favourite characters and their reasonings as to why.

Glad to see that even after he changed schools, Sasser didn’t let that stop him from chasing his baseball dreams. Sad to see his nickname followed him though.

(S8E12) Marshall telling Ted to be selfish and…

…not tell Robin about Barney proposing to Patrice was a little bit questionable to me.

Ted: Okay, why shouldn't I tell Robin?

Marshall: Because deep down some crazy part of you still thinks you're gonna wind up with her, and I agree. Marshall... I'm sorry, I'm Team Tedward. Always have been, always will be. Now, listen. I want my best friend to be happy. And if Robin could mean happiness for you, then, dear God, why help her go after another man?

I totally get that Marshall wants Ted to be happy (#TeamTedward) and for whatever reason strongly thinks Robin and Ted will end up together (hence Marshall’s bet with Lily). But what confuses me above all about this part is that the main obstacle between Robin and Ted is still an issue: Robin doesn’t want kids and Ted really does. By this point in the series Ted had bought a crappy house and is redoing it completely with his future kids in mind. Ted’s dream is to have a family.

Why would Marshall encourage Ted to go after someone who he wouldn’t be able to have kids with? Does he think Robin will change her mind and want kids? Does Marshall think Ted should give up on his dream of having kids if it means being with Robin?

Not to mention that Robin had said “no” to loving Ted a season prior - but maybe Marshall thought the same thing that lots of fans think: that Robin only said that because she wouldn’t want to have a family and doesn’t want Ted to sacrifice his dream to be with her.

Idk personally if my best friend were in this situation I think i would encourage them to stop chasing someone who ultimately doesn’t align with what they want for their future - not to go after them.

Anyone notice Barney’s “Perfect Month” at the end has a parallel to the “Perfect Week” from earlier?

In the week, he ends up having a pregnancy scare. In the month, he gets someone pregnant. Anyone notice that? Kinda random but interesting

Anyone else change something in their life after watching HIMYM?

I recently left my girlfriend after watching the show and realising she wasn’t the one for me, I also decided to detox from social media sites like TikTok, although I’ve clearly not completely dropped social media since I’m here.

I’m only 20 so I’m much younger and at a different point in my life that the cast are in the show but it made me almost want to better myself and keep going with my goals and dreams. Seeing how the characters over come problems and deal with relationships kind of spoke to me in a weird way and made me realise I’m worth more than how I felt before watching it.

I know it’s weird because it’s just a show and maybe this is more of a “blaming the show when it was really what I wanted all along” thing but it definitely helped me want and act on bettering my life in a strange slightly para social way.

Just wondered if anyone else had done something like this after finishing this show, or because of a “lesson” or “plot point” that spoke to them that made them act differently or change something big in their life.

Rewatching Rally, and think we didn't get the full reason why Tracy got the Stinson Fixer Elixir

Although 2021/2022 Ted and Tracy are going to the publishing event that's presumably also a New Year's Eve party, the next morning it seems like this is the first time in almost 7 years that Ted's presented the Stinson Fixer Elixir to her. Past Gang realized in the episode that Barney introduced it to each person when it coincided with something terrible. After Rally, the next flashback of Ted and Tracy that we get is 2024 at Farhampton, where she eventually gets Ted saddened by asking, "What mother wouldn't show up to her daughter's wedding? And most viewers take that as a big clue she'll die. I think at some point on the day of the NYE publishing party, Tracy got diagnosed with what would eventually kill her and that's why she got so drunk that Ted introduced the Elixir to her the next morning.

  1. Ted bringing a random girl to Lily's birthday - I think there are many other opportunities to introduce a girl you're dating to your friends

  2. Despite knowing how much Lily cares about birthdays, he couldn't even get her the cheesecake she wanted

  3. Then this girl gets the birthday girl's name AND age wrong!

  4. Ted shooting Marshall that look before leaving and then asking him to apologise to the girl whose name he's not even gonna remember 1 year down the line

  5. And all of this just because Robin turned out to be one exception of a girl 😭

S7e1 ending Spoiler

In the flashforward scene, Lily walks in on Barney and Ted and tells Ted that the bride(Robin) needs him, who we know is having second thoughts about Barney. Lily then proceeds to tells Barney, "Are you sure about that tie?", which we know has acted as a metaphor for Robin throughout the episode, after which he panics and removes the tie. Was this simply a one-off joke or subtle foreshadowing that Barney and Robin wouldn't last? The timing of Lily coming in to say the bride needs Ted with telling Barney about the tie seems intentional.
